I'm hoping that perhaps someone could help me with nightlighting issues I've experienced. Well really, I haven't been able to experience nightlights at all; they just don't work with my BATs. However, I am able to see the nightlights of other BATs. As far as I am concerned I have all the required downloads for nightlighting, but as I said, I can't see my own nightlights; everything but really. I'm really not sure where I am going wrong in this process.

I begin with creating and texturing the model. I proceed to add either self-illuminated textures or photometric lights to the scene. I render the daytime scene and get no nightlights, as it should be. I click through the dialog boxes, then once the daytime render is done I change the scene to DarkNite (which I of course have installed). The nightlights now display in the night scene when I render, as I would expect them to. I click through everything, open Plugin Manager and LE. However, once I put the prop on a blank lot then open it in game, no nightlights show. It appears as if I never added nightlights to begin with, even though I did. I tried placing no power stations around the lot, up to five or six, and nothing seems to work. Where am I going wrong here, I'd like some advice please!

When you make the prop in the plugin manager make sure you go through all of the tabs. I think there's a setting you need to change to enable nitelites on props.

You can also open the .SC4Model file in the Reader and check to see that the night .FSH files are there.

I'll be sure to check out the first thing you mentioned, I think that might just solve it! As for the second, I neglected to mention I had already checked the .FSH's in Reader. Thanks for the help Jasoncw!

EDIT: You've done it Jasoncw, you've done something I've sought for over a year now. I now have nightlighting thanks to you; many, many thanks to you! This has opened up news doors for my BATs, so expect some awesome, now fully night-lit BATs soon.I'm so f**king happy !

I've begun testing nightlights with some of my older models. Note that in the following pictures I'm just testing relfections and glare. I'll add actual window textures later. As for those images here they are:

    xxrpo0mlw.jpg

I will also be added nightlights to some of my sunken highway pieces, as well as creating new ones. One thing I would like to do is add a wet concrete texture. If anyone can suggest some ways of doing this, let me know!

Yay, nightlights will add a whole other dimension to your BATs :D

    but for now...

Wayyyy too bright and too much glare. Tone it down a lot.

As for wet concrete, I'd just look up a tutorial for it on the interwebs. It will probably have something to do with a reflection glossiness map on a wet looking concrete diffuse texture.

Working on the nightlighting, sorry for the blinding twinkle/glare, I'll fix that: :P

Please comment and critique! This is my first time using bump textures and casting shadows from objects invisible to the FG, so that explains the weird dark spots around some edges. Anyways, enjoy!

Thanks for the kind replies! I'm happy to tell you that section is now done:

...And for those wondering what is possible with these new highway walls:

    rolnlwh3y.png

Wonder no more! All you'll need are MTELs as a dependency and the NAM for 3-tile avenue, and you'll be essentially making this:

All that's left for me to do is fix a few lotting/shadow bugs and make a few more pieces. Enjoy!

My antivirus is blocking your images, it says that the link has a Trojan...

It's safe to unblock them. I can assure you they don't have a trojan, no one else had complained about this issue, so it's just your AV acting up.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean about "no texture thingys". If you could provide me with a pic, that'd be excellent. I'm sure I'd be able to help then! :)

    Sorry, Of course

    Problem.jpg

That's really odd I honestly do not know what would cause that. The only things I can really think of at the moment are to be sure you are using pretty generic base textures if possible and/or raising the props up a bit. I'll get back to you if I can think of anything else.

you used transparent texture. It's a well know bug. If you save, quit and come back it should turn good.

The highway looks really cool, they don't tile perfectly though but I think that should be an easy fix. How many different pieces will you make? I guess there should be a few to ease repetition issues.

    Sorry, Of course

What girafe said or you can go to the zone data view (or underground view, I think) and back and the texture will show correctly.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, and thanks for the bug help Girafe.

Good question, I will be making the following pieces:

    • 2x3 sunken with BAT'ed road texture (already shown).
    • 2x3 sunken with BAT'ed road texture (variation with different potholes, lights, skidmarks and other details).
    • 1x3 sunken with BAT'ed road texture (filler).
    • 2x3 sunken with transition between the normal RHW texture and my BAT'ed road texture (this will be the link between my pervious sunken highway BATs and these new ones).
    • 2x3 sunken with RHW texture visible (essentially just a long-awaited filler piece for what I've already released)
    • P57 cosmetic pieces (these will be designed to fit around P57 interchanges, much like how one of Buddybud's pieces fit around the Maxis T-interchange).

The first to come are P57 cosmetic pieces, which will have the same aesthetics as the pieces I've already released. I need quite a bit of time to work on these pieces, to make sure they can be released when Project Symphony is; I want the releases to coincide. That's what I'll finish first, but that's not to say the P57 pieces will be released first. It will probably take a short amount of time to make transition pieces between the normal RHW texture and the texture I used in my latest sunken highway. The sunken highways depicted in the above few posts will be released when I make the transition pieces and fix a few underbridge problems. Oh and by the way, don't worry about the lighting tiling perfectly. I just need to fix some of the overlaps with the props. I put these together kind of sloppily to give an idea of what I've created, it's just a matter of firing up LE. Thanks for your concern everyone, I'm glad to see many of you are on-board with the goings-on of this project!

I may be switching up the order a bit as to what will be worked on first. So on that note, I present to you...

    g4xe4bxvb.jpg

Note that not all texturing is final. I just whipped this up as a quickie while I was awake (I'm home sick, as I have been for the past few weeks). I'll also be replacing some of the sodium vapour lamps with mercury vapour lamps in some sections to give variety. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it!
