    Vlasky- Thank you!!! :D

T Wrecks, gutterclub, Jasoncw- I'm sure you guys know the only buildings that have CS$,CS$$, CS$$$ are the buildings have have commercial on the ground floor, like Hattan House, 30 E. 81st Street and 201 E. 19th street. For me I can't say if I use Residential or commercial only, I have put so much time in to batting and doing other things, I wish I can get a city started. :(

Yeah, time was the reason I asked this question in the first place: It could save some time to leave out the CS§§/CS§§§ versions if it turns out that they are hardly used anyway.

Honestly, I don't think some stores on the ground floor are a strong argument to qualify the entire building as "commercial". CS§§ is good to fill with lots of low-rise and mid-rise stuff, and for CS§§§ we have buildings ranging from small boutiques through medium shops up to ritzy hotels like nofunk's Queralt Hotel. I don't think entire rows of CS§§/CS§§§ buildings in the size of Hattan House are really that necessary, so you might as well save some time.

This is just my $0.02, of course. :)

chiming in for commercial or not to commercial...

the game plan I use for the ground floor shops is if the 'R' doesn't take in the spot I want that model to be then I use the 'c'... as I like the models to be a certain spot in the city even if the 'city' doesn't like me to put it there...

so I like the option when doing ground floor shops... :)

Apartment buildings, especially those where affluent people live, are places where many low pay jobs happen...think about the guy washing the lobby's floors, the receptionist, the private nurse working for some elder person, the one hired to tidy up someone's house and so on...IRL a simple apartment building might be a workplace for many.

In SC4 many of those jobs would probably fall in the C$ cathegory, and it would be nice to have some C$ ploppables for apartment buildings to represent that, as well as soaking up in game's sometimes huge C$ demand...perhaps they could be modded so that you can only plop them once you've actually got enough demand (therefore C$ ploppable locked by demand requirement, e.g. building X provide for 50 C$, you got citywide demand for, let's say, 84 C$, therefore you can plop it) - of course this would require some work, but it could represent reality, and prevent SC4 dense residential neighbourhoods from being residential-only.

Speaking of apartment buildings with shops, they're a bit troublesome...they probably wouldn't look right in many commercial areas, or in many quiet residential streets, therefore one needs to control where they grow...which means, they can be made only as ploppables - commercial ploppables in residential areas, which is what Aaron is doing, if i'm not mistaken....

They surely cover just a small niche, but this whole game is what it is because someone thought about small niches.

If i can expannd this, and I really hope that my considerations won't be perceived as meddling, i think that, all in all, Aaron should do the majority of his residentials as shop-less buildings (they would be usable everywhere) - and do a small fraction of buildings with shops, to be used as commercials.

Hm, that's strange. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't have virtually endless CS§ / CS§§ demand. :uhm: Maybe that's because I modded all the smaller commercials in my plugins folder to have stats comparable to Maxis' (admittedly unrealistic) figures. In any case, I don't have that much need for larger CS§ / CS§§ any more. An occasional bigger BAT is appreciated, but I don't need a large number of them personally... interesting to hear the different points of view and thoughts on this topic, though.

Personally, I couldn't care less about the issue i've mentioned - for i usually tweak the stats of the things i download :P.

However, i know that some people did upload some larger BATs to adress this "problem" - therefore i can't but think that if someone does not meddle with it, such problem should, in general, exist...

On the other hand, the part where you (TWrecks) mentioned that "you've modded all the smaller commercials in your plugins folder" - so perhaps many smaller commercial buildings are indeed modded with stats that have less occupants than they should in order to fit SC4 system...so, perhaps that "C$ need" problem might actually be a true problem for many people...

But then, i don't really know myself - i mean, i didn't really experience it - it's been quite a long time since i tweaked all the content of my plugins folder according to other criterias, so i can't even remember how long ago it was the last time i've played an untweaked game :P.

Yeah, I noticed how BATters apparently were reluctant to give those small "shoebox stores" more than, say, 20 jobs at most. Probably they were thinking along the lines of "gee, that's already unrealistic, but Maxis also exaggerated". However, when you plop those things down in a sandbox city next to equally sized Maxis counterparts, you'll see that the Maxis buildings in some cases offer 40, 50, or even 80 jobs! Now since these buildings are small and compact (mostly 2x3 / 1x3 / 1x2), they can grow many, many times in a city. In total, the deviation can amount to a serious unbalance this way.

I can keep working on apartments with no commercial on the ground floor, any apartments with commercial on the ground floor take longer do the variations. :)

    45 E. 72nd Street

Here's a new building, the name of the building is 45 E. 72nd Street. The building is non- corner building, I was thinking about what AnthonyRM1 said, so I should work on a non corner w2w buidling. :)

Ah, this time it's a bit lower than the others! A nice choice once again, and great modeling so far. :)

You know, the shape of this one really reminds me of the Maxis high-wealth apartments for the NY tileset... the ones that grow on 2x3 / 3x2 mostly... come to think of it, we'd really need some more of these to break up the endless repetition. Maybe Gracie Manor would even work for that purpose. It has windows all around after all, so it might even look OK on standalone lots...

Thanks so much, looking forward to them!

    NYBT Townsley

Here's another building, it's not a corner building like the other new buildings I posted recently. The line on the plan that is going left to right is the 1.6 meter line. The building just like the Dover and the Gracie Manor are set father back from the road for the stairs to go below ground or for the flower bed. I was on a mission to make as many new buildings that should not cost a lot of time to finished. :)
