I dont like slope mods due to the fact they make mountain and steep hill roads a huge pain If a road bugs me alot I fix it by using rail or road

Here's an experiment that got to my mind last night and which I implemented swiftly: a stack interchange built with default NAM pieces, Maxis Highway, the BRF tunnel and slope mode and a 15m hole digging lot. The pre-fabricated 4-stack interchange is placed for comparison:

I haven't done anything of this kind for the RHW because of how problematic is it to set up the diagonal-orthogonal and diagonal-diagonal overpasses, or at least it has been to me. This would look better if I could figure out how to install a dark pavement texture for the MHW and have it work.

That's now a great experiment and it would've turned out even better if you had one-way-road smooth curves (yeah, i am pushing for it hehe).

Mightygoose made a RHW concept for this design.

It is also worth noting that you need to 'double sink' one of your highway tunnels so they don't create a virtual intersection underground.

I think i'll just build a cloverleaf :D. Sorry for trolling. Too bad the game won't allow making large junctions, at least i don't fell allowed to do a junction that eats up half of my city space.

You just have to learn how to really squeeze ramps in there. I would recommend the windmill interchange for a compact 4-way; I learned how to build one from Haljacky's guide.

Speakin' of stacks and the RHW guide, how comes you never did a tutorial for one Haljacky?

Simply because it isn't practical to create a guide. It would be exceedingly long and complicated, and would use components that are not RHW (2 'levels' of avenue tunnels) which I don't like to use, or use minimally.

In addition, the stacks seen above are not realistic examples of the real world, which the 'real' highway aims to recreate. Perhaps later releases will contain enough components to create such junctions both easier and more realistic, and are perhaps less space-consuming as well. (Stacks are supposed to use limited space,)

Don't say never however... perhaps one will come with a new RHW release :P.

Pretty simple frontage road interchange, but I think it's worth showing here.

This concept came up in discussion here:

I like the concept of frontage roads there. I have thought of doing a highway with frontage roads, however I didn't think of making the interchanges like that. Something to consider...

@rweather5: Nice interchange, a style I use on occasion. :)

@rweather5: Is that the interchange from your CJ? If so, it looks a lot better. Great job! :)

Um Haljackey, if i was a RHW nazi, who i am not, i'd say that interchange has horrible weaving, i mean, you'll never see that stuff around, unless dumb engineers made it :P.

What do you expect from a workaround? Plus, it's the NWM you have to blame, not RHW.

Oh I agree. I personally despise frontage roads, but this is how their interchanges are set up. I saw it as a challenge to create a concept for it in SC4.

There's only one road where I live that has frontage roads, and they're preventing desperately needed capacity upgrades the freeway needs due to lack of space. (Although most of the interchanges on that route are Parclos, not the diamond u-turns used on most Frontage setups.)

Additionally, the important thing is that the weaving is kept off the mainline RHW. Most of the real heavy-duty weaving is on the One-Way Roads, where, due to the lower speeds and the lessened expectations for access control, it's not as big of a deal.

Most of urban interchanges or freeways don't look like the RHW but more like the standard Maxis. Take Los Angeles as good example. The RHW fits cool in the nature, in fact the R was for Rural, not Real, initially. I could agree the RHW is more eye-candy in the countryside, but when it comes to urban side i'd disagree. You Marteen have shown us nice pictures but real urban interchanges often are not that green, they're more like concrete, but i just said often. For what regards risks and realism of lanes, i personally don't care that much, i care about the "functionality" part of ralism and the eye-candy factor, also because if you had to take into account also the problems about the lanes, i think this would become more a long list of troubles than an entertaiming game. Just different views, and like i said, it is most of all a matter of taste, not just realism, danger, functionality and so on. If i wanted to learn to use the RHW, i could, but i am just preferring the Maxis one.

You obviously never been to Atlanta, Georgia.
