Well, that's my style for building highways. I like to have lots of right of way so things always have a bit of breathing room.

My typical layout by tile is

    -Soundwall

-Grass and lighting (right of way for future widening)

    -RHW

-Median (sometimes... possibly two tiles as well)

    -RHW

    -Grass and lighting

    -Soundwall

vandbub: Looks good. I would try to smooth the slopes a bit though. A bit of a bumpy ride.

    A couple more from me:

Diverging diamond... half on-slope due to an escarpment that runs through the city:

    BsluE.jpg

Trumpet modification on a RHW 'expressway' (no accel-decel lanes = expressway class by my standards, not a true freeway)

Edit: Here's one I just built:

Nice, AIX. Certainly different - but that is a good thing. I've tried using different types of interchanges on a new region I am working on, but none look great. So, awesome job. :)

By curved transitions, I meant curved ramp transitions. They should be somewhere in the transitions menu.

Few examples of RHW (to my understanding of road types) in one city. There are avenues and highways but I have not added them in.

The half-clover (fourth image) is interesting; I'll have to try that in SC4 some time. Anyway, I think people have posted screenshots of CityScape in this thread, so apparently non-SC4 stuff is okay:

    Cities In Motion 4-level stack

    Cities In Motion 3-level cloverstack

These are interchanges I created with Cities In Motion's map editor on a big city I'm working on. It's nice to not have all the flyover ramp limitations that SC4 has, but there are also some limitations to CiM's highway system, as it's not the focus of the game...such as no merge space possible and no smooth curves or alternate highway widths.

    Duh oops.

Here it is with curved transitions.

Much better, especially now that the ramp near the cliff is at ground level, whih is more realistic

what the heck is with you people and all your diverging diamonds and spui's? PS maybe I am a newb but I can't seem to use SPUI's the way I want to ingame. Like I said I'm probably a newb even though I have been playing for the better part of ten years lol

What seems to be the problem?

BTW, this is something to bring up in the Transit Modding subform.

I want to use them above the RHW like they're mostly used. But yea I'll take it to transit :)

I had seen that video, cool stuff, however very unusual here in Europe, actually i've never seen one or at least in Italy. I guess that's more american, yeah i remember google earthing some and must have seen that stuff somewhere, or someone had shown me.

There are examples in Athens, Greece and in Canberra, Australia. It's not American, I have never seen one on the West Coast [My limited interstate experience].

From what I've heard, SPUI's are a fairly new type of interchange and most places are just starting to implement them. We don't really have them down where I live, as our whole ramp system is different from what most places do, but I've heard that some places up in the Northeast or Midwest are building SPUIs.

I know Arizona has a fair amount of them, and I'm surprised to find one in California.

The point is that I was showing the one person is that you only need one FlexSPUI piece to attain its elevated version. You just need an ERHW-4 starter in the mix.

From the RHW Readme, there's actually a little history about SPUIs:

The Single-Point Urban Interchange, or more commonly, SPUI, is a type of high-capacity, grade-separated interchange, introduced February 1974 in Clearwater, Florida by engineer Wallace Hawkes. While conventional diamond interchanges usually involve two separate intersections to provide access between a surface street and a highway, the SPUI combines the two intersections into a single intersection (usually with slip lanes), improving traffic flow.

There's also a history blurb in there on the Diverging Diamond as well:

The Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), sometimes also called "Crossing Diamond", is an interchange that originated in France, but has recently caught on with North American highway engineers, through the work of American traffic engineer Gilbert Chlewicki. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) opening the first in the United States in Springfield on June 21, 2009. Since then, several more have opened up in the states of Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Utah, with many more on the drawing board in other states. The DDI involves having traffic cross onto the "wrong" side of the road, which allows left turn movements flow more smoothly and traffic on and off the freeway to go unsignalized, with only the through movements on the surface street requiring signalization.

Chlewicki even runs a site about DDIs, the appropriately named divergingdiamond.com.

All the more reason to read the Readme--it's educational!

You know the Eastern/Doncaster interchange in Melbourne? I'd like to see that converted to a SPUI. The freeway actually ended there once.

Also, does anyone think that the East-West Tunnel linking the Eastern Freeway to Flemington should join Westlink instead? I do.

There are a couple tutorials on the RHW Interchange Guide on how to make Single Point Urban Interchanges (Or Single-Point Diamonds, as I like to call em :P)

Ah the M3 eh? Surprised they didn't upgrade it with the advent of Eastlink. And to answer your question yes. Although its still and incredibly BAD idea it's obviously going to happen. I had a friend once who said to improve the nightmare of Punt Rd/Hoddle St someone should go over or under with another road! What they really need to do is make a rail line from Doncaster express into the City.

The Doncaster Rail is necessary as well. Only one new rail has been built in the state in the last 100 years or something, and that's the city loop. What I'm saying is it's better from a layout standpoint to link the two freeways up.
