New interchange for the city highway (Sorry for very bad quality )

    Oh very nice!

An intersection with interchange elements I'm tinkering with. The hilly surroundings don't make it easy :P

Cartographer29: Looks like someone followed my Dumbbell Interchange Guide :P

Nope, I did it myself. Although yes, the results are the same. Great minds think alike.

As much as I despise the design for it's incredible ability to cause terrible weaving, everything has a real-world counterpart ... http://goo.gl/maps/iQ9Xi

Not to mention that nearly every urban interchange in Texas has that kind of weaving setup. The only flaw with that one is the very short distance available for drivers to weave in and out of the ramp lanes. That could potentially lead to accidents due to drivers rushing to enter the main lanes (plus curved ramps like that don't exactly help you accelerate to freeway speeds).

    A Double Crossover Merging Interchange.

    dcmi14jan001351370071.png

This is as compact as I could make it using 'wide curves'. Of course to save on the one tile at the ends of the 'wide curves' you must place them before the joining transitions etc. This would not fit on a small map. I actually think that not saving on the one tile each end of the 'wide curves' and stretching it out a bit might look even better. Im going to try to create an 'upside down' one next ie elevate the ground pieces and ground the elevated pieces.

I'd classify it as a full grade-separated diverging diamond interchange

Got the idea from http://en.wikipedia....ing_Interchange... It says that "It is not known whether any such interchanges have been constructed." maybe you know of a real life example?

There's a couple free-flowing diverging interchange tutorials over at the RHW interchange guide: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=14074.msg405104#msg405104

I'd love to add yours if you're interested in making a tutorial!

It started as a simple highway bend. But I wanted to add another highway. Well it's simple but I'm still in training. I think I'm getting better and better :D

This looks a lot like the President George Bush Turnpike & TX114 interchange in Irving, TX. I used to drive that when visiting my parents near DFW. I like it. :)

A Double Crossover Merging Interchange with elevated highway.

    dcmi21jan001351522908.png

EDIT: Thankyou for the like... however I am going to redo this interchange as my intention was always to make a high capacity interchange using only 'wide angle curves' and as you may notice the sections of RHW4 that pass under the elevated RHW4 do not use the 'wide curves'... this means stretching the interchange out a little to get both curves to fit on either side...

    Nice interchanges everyone.

Here's a new one, and nope, for those of you who are wondering, it's not in The UC, but my offical Sandbox region.

    interchange8.jpg

Just out of curiosity, what would this interchange be classified as?

This is one of the variants of the cloverstack interchanges--a fairly conservative one, I might add (it has the flyover ramps entering through the outer lanes of the freeway--the semidirectional arrangement).

This one quickly spun out of control in terms of size and complexity, but I like it. The west-east freeway (the larger one) has local access/high speed lanes.

I was going to build the interchange (Diverging Windmill [system] Interchange) as shown in the diagram Haljackey posted, however I decided to try something a little more complex...

    A Two-level Turbine (System) Interchange.

    knooppuntturbine.png

    twolevelturbine2jan0013.png

Looks good but with this design I ran into this problem...

    twolevelturbine2jan0013.png

So had to change the design slightly... I tried a few different things, you may notice that picture 1 (top-right) also shows a slightly more compact 'spiral' using curved transition ramps... (I prefer that this part of the design)

Which picture do you think shows the best design for the highway exits?

Thanks for the idea... the thing is, the left arm of the exit ramp must elevate at some point, I could do this by elevating it just before entry to the elevated highway... however me being me I like to keep things like this symetrical and if I did this on the adjacent corners I would run into the same problem... I will give it a go though, at the sacrifice of symetry, and see what it looks like... will post picture soon.

Well, I would bring down the whole ramp and like it up as you do for the other two ramps.
How about this? I have made the whole interchange more compact also...twolevelturbine2jan0013.png

Built another of the same (Two-level Turbine [system] Interchange) this time using wider curves on the inside and on the outer most exits/entrances... also, I think this is slightly more acurate to the diagram for design.

    knooppuntturbine.png

    twolevelturbinewide1jan.png

Its a shame there are no wide curves for elevated highway, some more elevated exits/entrances would also be nice

Yes, we know that such things would be nice, but because it requires full 3D models, the modeling on that front is a little difficult. But who knows...

Anyway, the current design looks pretty OK ;)

Well.... I don't know about wide turns... but I've been playing with older urban style interchanges... one example:

    0L5pe.jpg

From my Van Alden Parkway project... really should do a CJ about it.
