People before me have said Stonehenge and Sears Tower. I lived for some years in Sydney so naturally the opera house, harbour bridge and Sydney tower deserve a mention. I have visited Melbourne and the Eureka tower is also interesting.

Of course this is landmarks. My favourite architectures would be gothic, georgian and art deco.

I've got to go with the Chrysler Building.  It's a masterpiece of Art Deco.

Some of my favorites include (in no particular order):

Penobscot Building, Detroit, MI

Key Tower, Cleveland, OH

Bank of America, Charlotte, NC

City Hall, Buffalo, NY

Niagara Mohawk Building, Syracuse, NY

Times Square Building, Rochester, NY

Note that these all either are or are somehow influenced by art deco.  For example, the Key Tower is basically a 1990's play on the Empire State Building.  Doubtless I missed about 10 more but those are the ones that come to mind immediately.

I believe my favorite skyscraper is the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore. Doubtlessly, part of why I think so is because I love Singapore with all my heart, and can't stand living on the other side of the planet from there, but it's also an architectural masterpiece.

I don't know what building is my "favourite" but this is in my list. RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) Building 80 or also known as Swanston Academic Building designed by Lyons is one of the campus buildings just north of the Melbourne CBD Grid. The cut out bits are called "portals" where students can study or take a break, unlike many universities, this building connects with the outside and lets in natural light as well as giving total public access.

It sure does stand out in Marina Bay ATM, but in the coming future it'll be a totally different skyline with a vast skyscraper jungle in the new Marina South area... Enjoy the view while you can :P

Dear gods... that's the monstrous hotel the North Koreans have been building on and off for the past twenty-five years.

Oh, Ryugyong hotel... The world just loves mocking that building.

_A: Like I didn't know that already? :P Seriously though, that particular complex will be left pretty much alone. The western part of the panhandle will be overgrown, but Marina Bay Sands is going to stay surrounded with nothing else than water and parks. I think that's nice. It kind of becomes a city of its own.

Well it really depends which way you look at it, but from many angles the backdrop will be a skyscraper jungle :(

Oh, man! Talk about revivibg a thread!

Guess it's about time I update my own list, too. Over the year that's passed since I left my reply I've grown old and wise and now, with my newfound intelligence, I like old things such as music by David Bowie or maybe... 40 Wall Street in New York? :)

I specially like the terminal of my hometown airport. It was designed in the 70s by a local architect, and has many innovative features that most airports of that times lack. The ATC looks good too imo xD

I also love Torrespaña, in Madrid

And I like a lot the Cuatro Torres complex too (shown behind the tower), I think it's very harmonious and that suits very well the city of Madrid.

Pennsylvania Station, New York City:

Penn_Station3.jpg

Torn down in 1964 to make room for a toilet-bowl arena and a dreary Modernist slab (like New York doesn't have enough of those).  The present train station on the site is a charmless claustrophobic warren that's hopelessly over-capacity.  Progress!

you're talking about madison square garden, thats the toilet bowl one you're talking about...

There is something about post-modernist skyscrapers that to me have a timeless beauty. Perhaps because they borrow elements from older building styles?

My favorite building is 1201 3rd Avenue, formerly known as Washington Mutual Tower in Seattle.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Since no one in the past 17 years mentioned the Karl Marx Hof I gotta mention the Karl Marx Hof, because its the goddamn Karl Marx Hof. Ahh what a utopian Reform-Blockrand it is:kitty: Maybe I should start a thread on Blockrands...
