  1. Laptop SC4

Hiya! I was just wondering if Sim City 4 is recommended for the laptop. I know I installed it on my first laptop a while back and the hard drive died soon after. I know it wasn't the program, but I worry it was from moving my 3+GB of plugins onto my computer. Do you think a laptop with these stats (my everyday laptop, see below) could handle it all? Also, otherwise would it be worth it to just reinstall all plugins? Thanks. citiesxlfan42 (should be simcity4fan42) Hewlett-Packard, Pavilion dv6, AMD A8-3500M APU with Radeon Graphics 1.50hZ, 64-bit operating system, 8GB RAM (7.48 GB available). I think that's all the important stuff.
  2. Viruses and SC4

No, I have not used any sites other than SimPeg, SOMY, Simtropolis, and SC4Dev. It may be something unrelated, as the laptop was found to be loose sensors due to sudden movement. Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the help. citiesxlfan42
  3. Viruses and SC4

Hello! So, I play Sim City 4 on my desktop at home. It has run quite well for a long time. However, it recently has been freezing, over and over again. I took it to the Geek Squad, and they found over 500 viruses and pieces of malware on the computer. The problem is, I barely download anything over than SC4 plug-ins. I'm worried that all of these viruses were slowly contracted over time from downloading plug-ins, and it worries me deeply. Also, I transfered it off the ailing computer, and took all of the plug-ins and regions to the laptop. A little over a week later, the hard drive died. I'm concerned about SC4 plugins now. I love the game, but I really dislike playing vanilla SC4. I'm not sure what to do or what to think here. Thanks, citiesxlfan42

8932. On the topic of Detroit: I'm sure most of you have seen this website, but if you haven't, I encourage you to see it. Some interesting photography here on the urban decay. LINK On BMW's: I have no clue why people are slapping M badges on any of them. Then again, I don't know much on it, driving a 2001 Trailblazer.
  5. SC4 Computer Switch-over

I may have to...because a) Good news! It actually worked fine after being transferred...the first time. b) The bad news...now its crashing and everything's out of line.
  6. SC4 Computer Switch-over

I almost forgot, I am going from XP on the desktop to Windows 7 on my laptop...again, does that change everything? I'm guessing it doesn't, as data is data no matter what operating system, but just checking. I have years of work in Sim City, don't want to lose it. Thanks so much! citiesxlfan42 (who, ironically, isn't really a fan of that game)
  7. SC4 Computer Switch-over

Thank you so much, I appreciate that. I can take care of that then almost on a large jump drive. : P Will I need to reinstall every plug-in with an installer, such as SimGoober's work and Deadwoods' work?
  8. Hello! So...I play Sim City 4 (with a googleload of plugins) on my home computer. My home computer is on the fritz, on its last legs, etc. I want to switch Sim City over to my laptop, so I can actually play it. How should I do so? IS there a way to do so? I'm guessing its not as simple as copying/pasting folders into my laptop with a hard drive. Any help would be wonderful, thanks! citiesxlfan42
  9. The US's most pathetic highways

The187inDetriot: Oh yes, now I-57 is a fun route to drive. : P HA! If I wasn't holding a meeting on a coach bus the time I drove through there, I may have died. "Oh look at how nice Peru-Lasalle looks!" (5 minutes later) "Make the farms stop!" Me and my family take alternate routes now.
  10. The US's most pathetic highways

I recently took a drive from Eastern Wisconsin where I'm from to Washington D.C for the 4th of July. I saw several stretches of highway that weren't probably the WORST in America, but were painful to drive. I-70 just after the Allegheny Tunnel in Berlin, PA. It's a beautiful drive, but the problem is, fog is awful in all parts of the year. At one point, I couldn't see. At all. Another stretch is I-395 in Washington coming out of Pentagon City headed for the Mall. Tourist traffic (like myself multiple times) and commute traffic is bad, though not the worst. However, the highway layout is like reading a children's book...when its in Ancient Hebrew, upside down, and on fire. I find it confusing. Especially on the East side of the Potomac. It's bad. Then... The BQE and Cross Bronx Parking Lot go without saying. My hometown of Appleton, WI is a mess. The WIS441/US 10/US 41 (possibly I-441/US 10/I-55 in 2014) interchange is full of lane weaving, incomplete ramps, and you can only go two ways, styming development on the west side of the city. It's horrible. Then WI-441 (Interstate 441 or 455, depending on what the WIS DOT decides in the next year) is a beltway around the city...awful. After travelling the aging Roland Kampo Bridge (built in the 70s, very heavily used and originally ended in a farm field), you are reduced to 55mph, and go into a tight 90 degree turn that too many drivers meet their death on, followed by two or three exits all mashed together in mile 289 (Racine St., Midway Rd., Appleton Rd.). Then two more 90 degree turns, and then finally, it widens and is actually an interstate. Did I mention that the traffic of 6 lanes of highway gets stuffed into that stretch? Add our 80 in. of snow a year...Yep. It's up there as the worst. They do have plans to straighten it out...at the expense of 100s of homes and businesses. I'm not for it. But oh well.
  11. SimCity Insider Windmills

Reading this article...man, this is more what I'm talking about! This is great looking, and I also love the connections of wind power with service roads and the university. This so beats the robots and guitars as an update! Keep up the good work Maxis! PS: Did anyone notice how nice that residential district behind the turbines looks?
  12. Show us your Small Towns

I was thinking that myself...where'd the power lines come from...I need those for my American inner cities.
  13. SimCity: Terraforming

Well, I know its a game, but think about it this way. When the Pilgrims came over from Europe, they didn't land at Plymouth and say "Oh, wait, I don't like this hill here, lets get rid of it and add a lake!". Maybe that's the kind of approach they're going for.
  14. What does the future hold for CXL?

I'm considering buying Cities XL on my new laptop. I have the RAM and stuff for it, and it might be worth a shot. I'm an all around city builder fan, so it might be worth a new perspective on city builders. Looks like great graphics, and with mods it sounds alright. I might try it. Can't wait for SC2013. As for the future of CXL, it'll probably be a select few, as said before. That's all I have to say. citiesxlfan42 (ironic, as I've never owned the game. I was a fan during development)
  15. Simcity Interview & Walkthrough

People forget that EA was still around with Sim City in SimCity 4...and look how that turned out. Don't just give up on it because it's EA. I hate 'em too, but I'm willing to give the game a shot. Also, they are building a sample city, a small thing that is easily managable and can display all of the features in the game. Us citybuilders can take a game and make one heck of an accurate city. Thirdly, it is a year away. Some graphics and buildings aren't completly updated yet! I wouldn't worry about that yet. Finally, I'm sure Maxis has included all of the financial stuff (they've already released data and data layers earlier), but won't mention it now because they want to have people who are new to the franchise join in. It might scare them off. I'm excited for this. If it IS a flop (Maxis is to video games as Pixar is to movies), then there's still always Cities XL and SC4 I can deal with. Peace out, citiesxlfan42
