East Tenne: Dude, Where’s My Cat?

    lost_cat_vq_443.jpg
Mittens is lost in the national capital! Let’s see if we can find her. Let’s follow the trail and see if we can find her somewhere in District II.

    2-13_zps5c176535.jpg
She lives here in a spacious flat on Kibbleston Lane. She left her home early in the morning and has not been seen since.

    2-23_zpsc7d4d67a.jpg
She was last seen at the coffeeshop by the park. She got a tuna latte with salmon cream, as she usually does. But after that, we lost track of her!

    2-24_zpsfcc36a94.jpg
Mr. Fluffington says he saw her in the alley next to the Feline Heritage Center. But when I went to check it out, she was long gone.

    2-25_zpsb0f5fe35.jpg
Down on Cathead Court, a kind old lady said she saw Mittens, but I could not find her.

    2-52_zps9a75e7aa.jpg
I thought I would check the park. But no luck still.

    bfa11_zps5ff22365.jpg
The fabulous Bureau of Feline Affairs gardens are a perfect magnet for cats to gather. But no one said they saw her. But I did see some tiger tacks. So, I decided to follow them.

    bfa12_zps5582c1c6.jpg
They went all over the area…

    Heritage5_zps642c337a.jpg
I saw her neighbor, Miss Kitty, who said that Mittens was planning to head to the Feline Heritage Center for an exhibit on claw sharpening. But no luck again.

    jardin16_zps9e4bdef8.jpg
So back to the Jardin des Felines to follow the tiger tracks…

    jardin17_zps8c6f1b5b.jpg
She must have gone all over the gardens!

    jardin18_zpsf234dbf8.jpg
But I lost the trail as we approached the Riverwalk. I guess I need to walk along the waterfront to see if she decided to go fishing.

    riverwalk24_zps0060cbbf.jpg
Looks like a quiet day along the water. No tigers here…

    riverwalk25_zpseb9b931e.jpg

    riverwalk26_zps77db0b2e.jpg
    Or here…

    riverwalk34_zpse064f584.jpg

Perhaps I should try another spot

    Sylvester6_zpse6746d4f.jpg
I will go atop the gilded dome of St. Sylvester’s and get an aerial view of town

Let’s see what I can see from the perch at the top:

    wide026_zpscd30c1c2.jpg

    wide035_zps668d6875.jpg
No luck! I guess I should go home and mope…

But, when I got home: good news! Mittens kept me busy all day to organize a surprise party for me! Woo hoo! Now THAT was a surprise!

    cat-party_zpsae3e87e5.jpg
All the more a surprise since my birthday was a few months ago. But, a party is a party!!

Thunderman    You are welcome anytime. :D

Thunderman    They would need to talk to the happy couple to get on the list.

    Hester    Indeed!

Gn_leugim    Maybe you can be in the military honor guard?

Hester    We are all about dignitaries.

    SimCoug    Hehehe…

    Benedict    LOL!!

Lyhoko Leaci    Quite a few, actually. Central Africa is the main missing area. Only need Cuba and a few Caribbean islands to close out the western hemisphere,

    vivapanda    Me too!

Lyhoko Leaci    Definitely time for a party.

    Thunderman    Naughty, indeed!

    Hester    Rock on!

Hester    She’s a valued leader in the canine world.

    Coming up next....

    Middle  Tenne: Blankenship

Blankenship is a town straddling the Clinch River in Middle Tenne. The Tenne Avenue Bridge bisects the town as it crosses the river. The town is unusual in that it does not have its own port. It is connected to road to the Meltonhill area and makes use of the multiple ports located there. This decision by the City Planning Office may herald the era of regional ports or perhaps doom Blankenship to slow economic growth. Only time will tell. The town site was selected to connect both sides of the river in the relatively flat, wooded area known as the Blankenship Fields. The terrain is ideal for connecting east-west land transit with the north-south river crossing. A major intersection north of town will help connect Meltonhill with points east by road and, it is hoped, more than compensate for the lack of a municipal ferry port.

    BFA-Ofc_zps278ece0c.jpg
The local Bureau of Feline Affairs Office is located here, along Tenne Avenue. If you have furry business, you will probably stop by here sooner or later.

    BigEdsCornerMarkertplace_zps7f92ff0e.jpg
A distinctive structure along the main road is Big Ed’s Corner Marketplace. The bright red brick structure houses a variety of local and national retailers. Big Ed himself has a pizza place on the ground floor. And, in a rivalry sure to bring in the bargain hunter, both major drugstores have shops here – Leech Apothecary and Crusher’s Apothecary.

    UnionSlantersBank_zps296312d0.jpg
A homegrown financial institution, Union Slanters Bank, occupies this corner. Union Slanters was started by the accounting firm of Slurx & Slots after the firm’s founders moved west. Slurx and Slots got their start at the very successful accounting firm of Vulcan Logic Accounting in Georgehampton and decided to strike it rich in the booming west. And, luckily for the employees, a lovely café is across the street. The lady in the back making pastries, Sarabelle, is well known for her crème horns. Care for one?

    WayneManorAcademy_zps00e2effa.jpg
The local school is a magnet school with specialized programs to suit the needs and interests of local students. Wayne Manor Academy was endowed by local millionaire Bruce Wayne to provide the town with five distinct educational options. The Wayne Foundation operates the school under contract from the town.

So, are you interested in attending Wayne Manor Academy? Consider one of these five programs and then get your application turned in to the front office before the deadline:
    1.    Burgess Meredith Institute for Ornithological and Antarctic Studies
    2.    Cesar Romero School of Humor & Literature
    3.    Frank Gorshin Logical Studies Program
    4.    Adam West School of Economics
    5.    Burt Ward Institute for Sidekick Studies

    wallpaper-1966-batman-movie-villains.jpg

    And for good measure:

    WildcatDen1_zps18c34e02.jpg
The Wildcat Den is the town’s Community Center. There is a nice auditorium used for concerts as well as banquet halls and meeting rooms available for rent. And a game room for the kids. The third floor also includes the town library.

    BlankenshipFieldsChurch1_zps3f9a70c4.jpg
Blankenship Fields Church sits in the heart of the residential area on the north shore. The parsonage is next door and currently occupied by Rev. V. Moore.

    homes1_zpsa6472029.jpg
Some homes on nearby Valletta Lane

    homes2_zps49089420.jpg
Alger Road’s residents are happy with their homes but unhappy that their street is often potholed. I think there’s a gopher (gopherus caddyshackus) problem here…

    wide1_zpsada18239.jpg
A wider view of the town

    wide2_zps4c7da7b0.jpg
Another wider view of the town

    wide3_zps00a341a3.jpg

Another wider view. In this one, you can see Big Ed’s. Kinda makes me hungry for pizza…

    TrophyTerrace_zps910774eb.jpg
Trophy Terrace, a mixed use development, has shops on the ground floor and luxury apartments above. And we are having a move in special! The first ten repliers who ask for an apartment get a free one year lease! Just tell me what size you want: studio, 1 BR, 2 BR, 3BR.

    East Tenne: Myers Park

Cat food magnate Oscar Myers donated a wagonload of gold schulmonetas to fund the creation of the capital’s largest public park. And being a modest fellow, asked that it be named after him. The park, located in the city’s third district, is a wonderful civic space. It is home to a variety of formal and informal spaces, sports and recreational sites and is one of the most popular gathering spots in the city. It is in the heart of the Holy Quarter and is bordered by such important landmarks as the National Cathedral, City Hall, Sardine Square, Ecclesiastic Library and more. The park’s boundaries are The Promenade, a wide boulevard encircling the open space.

The park has two main sectors, divided by Park Avenue. To the north is The Lawn, which is open space with statuary and a reflecting pool. It runs from Park Avenue to the cathedral and is a popular spot for outdoor concerts. The southern sector is larger and includes athletic fields, formal gardens and natural areas. Some smaller features include Golden Pond, where paddleboats are often scurrying about, and the Secret Garden, a garden-with-a-garden popular for small outdoor weddings. We will venture here often in our tour of the National Capital Region. Let’s start now by seeing some of the amenities of this fabulous feline park.

    mp002_zps18f03c8e.jpg
A wide view of the park helps us orient ourselves. This is the lower section, viewed from the northwest. We see City Hall sitting prominently along The Promenade, across from Golden Pond. Natural areas serve as a buffer between the park’s entry points and the massive formal gardens in the center.

    mp001_zpsfe341583.jpg
The largest feature in the upper section, The Lawn, is the reflecting pool. It includes a greenhouse conservatory with exotic plants from across the nation. This includes of course samples of savory varieties of feline favorites like catnip and silver vine.

    mp003_zps44856d70.jpg
Athletic fields are very popular and located along the southern end of the park

    mp006_zps0d2c23e4.jpg
In this matchup, we see triplets in the outfield: Sam (center) and his brother Jack (left) and his other brother Jack (right). The coach has a hard time calling out the lineup because of the names!

    mp007_zps0c36c86f.jpg
Park Avenue separates the upper and lower sections. Multiple pedestrian bridges prevent park goers from having to deal with carriage traffic.

    mp008_zpsf7d437a3.jpg
The snack bar is popular too. The catnip ice cream is great on a cone or in a bowl.

    mp009_zpsf8644c0f.jpg
In the center are massive formal gardens

    mp032_zps11a5daa0.jpg
Can you spot The Secret Garden here on the east side of the park?

    mp033_zpsdd0a4ac1.jpg
The Lawn features grassy areas, walkways and statuary as well as the reflecting pool and conservatory

    mp036_zps0d735aff.jpg
    Anyone wanna play a game?

    mp037_zps39080303.jpg
There’s no shortcut through this one!

    mp038_zpsf9d8ec09.jpg
Local artisans and farmers converge here at this café and gallery. You can have your artistically designed cake and eat it too!

    mp052_zps14ab73d1.jpg
Fun to walk on but not much fun to mow…

    mp053_zps918bc078.jpg
This little gem is almost hidden in the park

    mp054_zpsc62986ec.jpg
Care to stroll about the gardens?

    mp055_zpsa39c893c.jpg
The park’s designers thought that leaving a natural buffer between the formal center of the park and the edges of the city would help to break up the space and to add to the secluded, natural feel for those in the heart of the gardens.

    mp091_zps4b97b370.jpg
The hotel has a great view!

    mp092_zpsd9402b34.jpg
    Enjoy scenic Myers Park!

Still trying to work my way through the entirety of the Schulmania threads but just wanted to stop by and say that Meyer's Park looks lovely.

Definitely a good place to sun and clean yourself on a hot summers day.

    Cheers
