SimCity 4, it's not a game; it's a work of art.

^Southton Place was once a desireable suburban area surrounded by farming and an occasional warehouse. Fast forward to the modern day and it is now part of the inner city and has suffered heavily from suburban decay. Once characterized by picket fences and manicured lawns; but now characterized by lack of maintenance, overgrowth, low end retail, and crime.

^ The Southlea neighborhood has also suffered similairly.

^ Edgarton Rd. and South Main

Malvern-Sep27631384660141_zps32cfa148.jp

^South main commons was the first Master Planned development that came into being in 1920. The 1970s and 1980s were rough on this area and the rail line shutdown didn't help either. Plans are being made to use the existing right of way from the old rail line and some imminent domain to build an elevated expressway that would better connect the south loop to downtown. This area may not be in existance for much longer.

All buildings are low wealth apartment buildings. You can get it from . It's a low wealth residential zone. Isn't that a ghetto or at least something like that? :???::D

It's creator designed it as a low wealth residence but that doesn't mean it look like a low wealth building... To me it's more suburban than ghetto

I think this could be considered a ghetto. Its very monotonous and looks like a large scale martian housing project. Kinda remniscient of soviet housing projects.

Here is the most interesting part. In my Simcity I don't play with low, medium and high wealth Sims. I'm a big supporter of the resource-based economy, a money-free form of economy in which there are no classes, salaries and taxes. However Simcity 4 is based on the outdated monetary system, so I have to make a few "cheats" to build my cities as I want them. Here, my cities screamed for poor Sims. To deal with this problem, I zoned for low wealth high density residential zones, let them developed and then marked the buildings as historical. Now I can build parks, schools, libraries and anything else. It still sucks because it's not exactly what I want, but at least it's way better than something more ordinary ;)

This sounds A LOT like Communism

Communism proposes an alternative version of the monetary system, while the resource-based economy obsoletes the need of it ;)

By the way, great pictures clhigh7 :)

I would say that the definition of "ghetto" as used in this thread includes some kind of decay, or at least neglect. Your buildings have nicely manicured gardens, which is about the opposite.

That favela looks nice. I like that instant urbanism. Hit me, but I think that these communities are indeed more social and better to live in than any commieblock, thus I wouldn't call them ghetto. More "city made by citizens".

Oooh! I like the neighbourhood church there. Any chance you've considered a sidewalk mod?

I haven't considered a sidewalk mod. And the church is St John's Church by Don Miguel. And just like my home Philly, the worse the neighborhood, the better the religious architecture.

My most recently built up ghetto. It's a parallel of Miami in an alternate universe where it's named New Florida City.

The greater the city, the greater the ghetto.

The prosperity of any city center is highly dependent on the support service provided by the less affluent neighborhoods.

Some people can do massive projects with uniform design. How can they make this happen? Is that through plopping or growth?

with "proposes" being the operating word concerning communism.

reality sadly shows that communism turns out to be a petty excuse by dictatorial leaderships to live in prosperity while the common people are deprived of human rights and wealth alike... unless they render themselves useful to the government.

...and the thread title shows that this is a thread dedicated to sharing and commenting pictures of your SimGhettos, so try to keep politics out of it. :)

@ clhigh7: I especially like the last pic. Although this is a personal impression and by no means based on any evidence or general truth, a "ghetto" is something rather urban for me, whereas your first screenshots simply show low-wealth suburbs IMO. The grunge and the crumby shops do more for a certain ghetto appeal in these pictures. The screenshots are still great, though. :)

@ Huston: Is there any chance of a non-photoshopped pic?
