Deva, Hunedoara, Romania

deva.jpg

You can see my grandmas apartment in this picture :P

Notice the old beautiful city near the bottom and right, and the disgusting communist "match box" apartments at left (what Romanians call them) sadly, the whole city looked how it does at bottom and right, with the majority being small streets with beautiful houses, the communists decided to demolish around 60% of the cities houses and buildings and create those nasty apartments and wide streets :(

And Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Necropost much? (^^great picture)

I am from Philadelphia, USA. Well known mainly for its being the sight of the writing and signing of he Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There are quite a bit of tourists around Old City, perfect for us history nerds (assuming your one too).

That shot of the Toronto waterfront from the Toronto Islands is one of the best I've ever seen.

250px-Wollongong_city.JPG

This is Wollongong. I lived there from 2001-2010 and 2011-2013. I was born and grew up in Adelaide and moved to Sydney when I was five, but this the town I have lived the longest in. Due to the multiple picture rule I won't put any up of those, but there are obvious excellent pictures of all those places on the net. Google 'Woolooware' or 'Sutherland Shire' for where I lived in Sydney. Since 2010 I have been in England and the nearest town is Littlehampton.

A sunset in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I was born in GDL, I live in the metropolitan area, in Zapopan, at the northwest.

There's no photo to describe the entire city, since it has a lot of faces. If you want to see more photos, I reccomend to visit this thread in SSC.

I'm from Semarang, Indonesia. It's a mid-sized town (2010 pop: 2,067,254)  located in central-northern Java, in the province of Central Java. It has very few hi-rises (the tallest is 27 storeys, not sure the height in meters/feet), but there are some mid rises up to the height of 15 storeys. I think why there are very few skyscrapers in the city is that the very tiny (and overcrowded) airport is located only 5 KMs from the city center, so height is restricted (not sure the maximum height). Here is a picture I took from http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P-cA5YMI1tQ/UQ9O8G-aDSI/AAAAAAAAG4A/t6WB8fJQgSI/s640/dsc0390c2b.jpg:

dsc0390c2b.jpg

The tallest building is the tall one in the background, and notice that the city doesn't ends on the fore-side of the hill, but continues some 10KM into the hilly areas, which leads to a >2000m mountain, which is located around 20 KM from the city center.

Since we all are fanatics of landscape and cityscape, I presume. I want to start this thread so that fellow forumers can proudly post and present their hometown pictures. After all, real life cities and rural areas are the best realistic things we can have in Simtropolis.

For the first post, I will be sharing this picture of my hometown, the city of golden friendship - Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.

Credits to owner - Slimer of SSC.  :D

You can't go home again.  My home town of Niagara Falls, Ontario is no longer recognizable as I remember it in the 1940s.  It has become a honky-tonk tourist trap.

Shot of the Seahawks Boeing 747 flying over my city on the day of the parade we had for the Seahawks winning the championship. Thought it as a pretty unique shot of my hometown - Seattle. Also, if you click for full resolution, you can see the City of Bellevue across Lake Washington in the background.

Pictures of Rubí, a suburb of Barcelona coming:

reparacion-de-ordenadores-en-rubi-barcel

Barcelona city lies at the other side of the mountain. You could describe Rubí as one more of the couple dozens industrial cities surrounding Barcelona. The white thing at the top of the mountain is Collserola tower, designed by a guy called Norman Foster.

32_rubi_20.jpg

The town market's new façade and square, in my home neigbourhood. People around have began calling it "Our own Guggenheim Museum" in a reference to Bilbao's Guggenheim. It was selected 2011 Building of the Year by Archdaily [link].

esglesia_sant_pere_rubi-2_editora_21_13_

St. Peter's church, at the very town center; next to a plaza designed for public concerts and such. It doesn't exist anymore, it was overhauled two or three years ago and now it is a urban park.

San Antonio, Texas:

2010%20san%20antonio%20day%20skyline-001
(By Mark Langford of MyStockPhotos.com)

Typical mid-sized American city skyline.  Among Texas's big cities, San Antonio is the oldest and most touristy.  Both heavily protected by historic landmark preservation and while also being largely ignored by past modern economic development trends, the city has the more traditional collection of older buildings and the fewest glass skyscrapers.  Hints of Old Mexico, the Old West, the Old South, and the U.S. Midwest all collide here.

(By Definitive HDR Photogrpahy on Flickr)

Most of San Antonians live in the surrounding suburban sprawl, the Northwest portion of which you can glimpse below:

(By Henry Scoggin on Panoramio)

From this view atop the Tower of the Americas, I would be somewhere just on the distant horizon hill line along the third most outer highway loop.

Unlike many typical U.S. downtowns built on a gridiron plan, San Antonio followed colonial Spain's Law of the Indies planning focusing on hierarchical civic plazas fronted by government and church landmarks.  However, this colonial plan had to be adapted around the meandering San Antonio River, leaving a street layout with numerous sharp bends, unusual angled buildings, and dramatic urban sightlines:

(By Raul's Photography on Flickr)

While this is a car-oriented city, the urban ideal of San Antonio is seen in the Riverwalk, a network of canals, bridges, pedestrian paths one level below the downtown street system and weaving through and around the central business district:

It's the "Venice of Texas."

christmas_riverwalk_by_wattsbw2004-d3u4n
(By wattsbw2004)

It gets hot and humid during South Texas summers, but, it is quite bearable sitting on the restaurant river patio under the shady trees drinking an aguas frescas or shaved ice raspado.

I admit, I'm most likely to be downtown because I got called to serve for jury duty, but, at least the Main Plaza around courthouse is comfortable and charming and also refreshingly cool, and the Riverwalk just below offers remarkable access:

Of course, no one would know about sleepy San Antonio if it were not for a misbegotten Mexican Army siege of an abandoned Spanish colonial mission fortified by Texican rebels:

800px-Alamo_Mission%2C_San_Antonio%2C_Te
(By Zygmunt Put at Wikimedia Commons)

The Alamo may be the official highlight as "The Shrine of Texas Liberty," but, I find it much more interesting to sit in the plaza or gardens and people-watch, for visitors from all over the world are guaranteed to end up in Alamo Plaza as part of the standard vacation tour.
