Without the displacement maps on the floors how long do renders take?

I dont know since I havent rendered the nightview without displacement. I think it's considerably less though. A dayview preview took only an hour (without displacement).

    Thanks guys! :D

The progress I made on this tower will help me with Burj Khalifa!

Although I am working on the Harry Potter project atm (Azkaban prison) and then will finish Tower Verre :-)

I might not be a fan of this kind of architecture but I can still appreciate the superb model that you made :thumb:

"Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters. Maybe… this is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

This was funny ... scrolling and scrolling ... and thinking: man, where does this bat finish? 'Titanic' might be the word to describe it? I like the glas texture, vivid and not repeating. Great job. Err ... no ... 'titanic' job, I mean.

    [Edit]

Yesterday I reviewed the John Hancock Center by By Diego Del Llano. Don't know how this is done exactly, but I like the way light seems to come from certain windows not only in night view but also on daylight. I personally think tall black buildings can look very good if between the strutting - like in your picture - there is much light/reflection, making the structure light instead of heavy. If they are all black - strutting and glass to equal - they're like this thing in Kubricks 'Space Odyssey'. But all black structures with nothing in between the strutting - they don't look massive, they can look very elegant, delicate. Just my opinion.

    [EDIT 2]

That's how painting creates  space, volume, depth - not only with perspective and geometry, but mostly with colours. To make the close, dear things red and intense and to make distance, cold, repellant things blue/grey:

    von-erdmann-friedrich-adolf-menzel-eisen

And contrast/colours is a major thing to make 3d-objects looking 'spacious'.

Well, but these are only thoughts. Not meant as critiques. This is already what you did, I think, regarding the soft red spot an the eastern facade.

Did I already mention that I don't know nothing about batting? And I need extreme strong glasses too.

So all I can talk about, is what I see ... and even this isn't too much.

On this zoom level this part seems a little messy to me:

    andisTower.jpg

There are some windows on the right almost black and on the other side the white planes seems to blur/overlapping with the strutting - giving the impression this part is someway damaged. Don't know for real but maybe putting some different coloured light there, again some pink - could it change this optical impression?

That's the old render you refering to. That's what I meant with the bump effect was too intense, it created distorted effects. Check the new render above, it is milder. Let's double check the full model on completion though, but it should be good now.

And your look at the BAT is of course appreciated, you don't need to know BATing to give feedback :) Actually sometimes a person disconnected from creating BATs can see some things more clearly in a render, cause they are not so involved.
