lack of any realism.......but hey, its a game, no the most non realistic trait of SC$ is that ur able to create cities from scratch in 20 seconds, and god mode. But it does lack realistic.........anything, its just a bunch of humble jumble to me if u put it in a different point of view. But I still love it like I love my computer! 3.gif

Hate is a strong word. I dislike it's locked-to-the-grid style. Although all around I can't complain, I would like more 3D graphics too.

This seems out of place here... off to the SC4 discussion forums!

And there's a number of things I hate about SC4, the lack of true realism and scale, but it's a game... it can't be perfect.

two words:

Repetitive Buildings. On my city of 81,000 the entire downtown is Brink Real estate and Reflect Systems Inc. =(

wow bacon you HAVE heard of the STEX right? 3.gif

My biggest issues with sc4 are the grid which limits buildings to four directions, the ineffeciency of the game engine *my pc can play games like doom 3 near its highest graphical settings with no lag...and my sc4 cities lag greatly after a certain size*

Other than that, i am extremely grateful for this amazing game!

I disslike the transportation options ;( like the cars disapere suddenly in the middle of nowhere, and trains show up from nowhere and stuff. It would be fun to have more control over the transport, like organize your train, bus, monorails routes by yourself. Not just build stations and drag lines.

Life is what we make it :)

I don't like how many airports are required in each city... same with powerplants and water pumps ( I know there are modds for that, but I like to keep my plugins folder fairly clean ). I also don't like the weird things I have to do each time I start the game because I have Vista with an X2 processor.

Small price to pay for such a great game though

There are some things I truly  distest about the game . The music( sad tencho , a  miserable excuse of  hip-hop and jazz songs, and a song called "GrittyCity" ?),the random crashes that make you want to stop playing for the rest of the day, and the small yet supercomplex transit system.
You can't use an airport to transport sims arcoss the region which is basically the equalvent to the ferry. My sims have a education average of over 160 but don't know how to get to work ??

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7f/SimCity_4_Rush_Hour_Coverart.jpg

EDIT- Rush Hour only add so much compare to the box cover . ( Okay box covers are suppose to look better than the game itself , and got most of the stuff on the front .But come on! there are highways going thru the buildings. We should at least had that !)

But that's we have Simtropolis to complain and make the game better to our liking. Sim City 4 is still one of the best games a person could buy.Sweet.......9.gif

The city sizes are way too small. The game's built in airports and seaports are ugly, and there is no option for free form building. I'm not saying that I hate the grid, I just want to have the option to deviate from it.

1. Sims should stop complaining about the commute time! Oh, and they should drive faster...

2. Crashes

3. Inflexible zoning

4. Residential buildings not ploppable

5. The lack of underground/elevated roads at default

6. Some of the principles about terrain slopes and the ridiculous sensitivity of those.

7. Not being able to overlap several kinds of transit networks at different altitudes

8. Airports only serving one city.

I absolutely HATE how there cant be just 1 or 2 commuters at the most per household!!!!! The traffic produced is very unrealistic. Before you know it you're laying an AVENUE through a small suburban neighborhood with no more than 4 or 5 streets! And if Maxis couldn't have reduced the amount of commuters they should have raised the traffic capacity for streets, roads, avenues, etc. And while we're talking about households, the houses in the game are TERRIBLE! I have never seen a house even vaguely similar to the little shacks and farmhouses in the game. There needs to be a much wider variety of house types like maybe southwestern or middle-eastern. Also I wish I could be the one that determines what type of housing goes where. I'm so sick of seeing a huge lavish 3x4 mansion right next to a 1x2 shack duplex! Oh, and to a lesser extent, I wish there were different sized streets. For example: wider streets in the suburbs and narrow ones in urban areas. Lastly, I long for APARTMENT COMPLEXES. Sorry for the long post but I was only describing my dislike for certain aspects of SimCity4. Thank You!

1. I miss all the funny news ticker nuances in between the important messages, i.e. the "Tommy B. Saif", or "Kitty Kibble", or "Wise Guy Sammy", or "{CITY NAME} News Ticker", etc., not to mention all the funny "facts" about broccoli and llamas.

2. The fact they took away the petitioners from SC3KU

3. Taking away all the seasonal buildings like Haunted House and Winder Wonderland from SC3KU.

4. Taking away the option to turn off and on all disasters.

5. Taking away all the good music from Sc3ku...LOLZ.

6. In U-Drive-its you are confined when on highways, and the helicopters are so slow, and boats are one-hit-wonders to death.

7. Took away the Self-Build program from SC3KU.

The official website that won't ever allow you to product register anything to enable downloading the additional buildings or the terrain generator. Shuttling between the official simcity site and the official sims 2 site prior to purchasing this game has given me a healthy amount of hate for that company, even if I do enjoy a few of their games.

OMG, commute traffic gives me such a nightmare, like when it says the building is abandoned due to commute time, i hate, i know it makes the game more realistic and that but i hate it soooooooooooo much!

1. Uses too much memory that I had to buy a new computer to play the game

2. Residential zones don't build as quickly as it should

3. Pathfinding!!!

4. Commute patterns don't make sense (commuters use roads and not highways)

Mostly I love the game but there are a few things I hate (obviously, since I'm replying to this thread).

1. The health and education advisor. You can max out funding for everything, place too many hospitals and schools for the city's own good, and she'll still be ranting at you that one of them (usually a small medical clinic) is going to strike, and they usually do. My solution? I don't build small medical clinics anymore!

2. The transportation advisor. Yes, I know the roads are clogged, but traffic is a reality in any city. Even my real life hometown of Altoona, Pennsylvania, has traffic problems in the downtown, and it's a city of only 50,000 people in the city proper.

3. Auto-roads. I don't want a bunch of useless roads cropping up when I'm trying to build the city on a nice grid system.

4. News ticker messages stay for a long time after the problem goes away.

5. Not enough awesome disasters. Most of the disasters are fires in warehouses or abandoned buildings. I'd love to unleash a flood on some of my cities, but there's no flood option.

I find a few of the unfixable bugs to more annoying every time I encounter than:

  1. The GUI problem where a ferry path crosses something like a seaport.  The ferry sinks, but the route is completed anyway.  This is a routine error in the GUI.
  2. The problem with transit enabled lots that crashes to desktop if you drag a puzzle piece over them.  A great nuisance, and clearly a recursion error.
  3. The insufficient police presence, especially with airports.
  4. The whole of the My Sims section.  A marketing ploy that we can do without.
  5. The scum fum disasters.  Why not just use real ones?  Why have destructive stuff at all if it is not random?
  6. The lack of willingness on the part of EA to update the game for modern equipment.  The real drag is that it is not written with new graphics gear in mind nor properly mutli-tasked to take advantage of multi-processor environments.  A 64-bit recompile would also be nice.  This game was released just as the industry was on the verge of a quantum leap in equipment, but no effort was made to allow for this.
  7. The generally poor level of the programming.  Experienced game writers, maybe.  Experienced application programmers?  Hah!  Good programs don't crash and leave mysterious dumps that no one can read.

What grinds my gears about SC4?

Constant nagging from advisors

Lack of Region to Region trading fluidity

The Fact that we need a Mod to get our sims to drive Like a normal person would (NAM)

115 people living in a 2 story house.

and the complete abandonment by Maxis/EA (not really surprised though.. its EA. what else do you expect?)

MVillani: Fancy stumbling across a fellow Altoid in a place like this. 2.gif

Downtown Toony Town doesn't have traffic problems much. Heaviest traffic in Altoona is generally Plank Road, particularly the stretch between the mall and Wal-Mart, but it ain't *that* bad, not compared to Pittsburgh and all the sprawl around it.

But your point concerning Altoona vis-a-vis SimCity 4 is a good one, and I'd distill the complaint thus: In big cities, traffic is a constant problem and managing it is probably the biggest challenge in the jobs of its managers. That's fairly well-reflected by SC4 (absent the brain-dead pathfinding.) But the problem is that even in small-to-medium cities in SC4, traffic is a major problem. You can't build effective suburbia because you have to keep jobs fairly close by to prevent the dreaded Infestation of No Job Zots.

What really chappers my crapper is if you sprawl a city to the corners, the sims at the corners seem to loop around the corners of the neighboring cities. I've seen 65535 busses on many of my avenues because apartments in the corners just keep looping around trying to find a job. It seems if the quickest route is the next city over, it counts that as the shortest route each time it enters a new city, thereby forcing many residents to go to the next city over, even though theres plenty of skyscrapers nearby that only take in about 300 commuters or less.

The second thing that makes me want to kill bunnies is that I can't seem to get those huge frekkin commercial skyscrapers to grow! I have 200k commercial jobs in my city (most of them high wealth office complexes) Demand is usually around 4k+ for med and high wealth CO, yet the biggest skyscraper i see is that green hunk of crap (i forgot the name) that only employs about 2400 ppl.

Third is how an office building can report 1600 ppl working there, and only 300 commuters. Or how it says "Abandoned due to low demand", yet it has commuters going to it.

Crashes of course suck, but it's very rare for me. Lag? Pfft get a core 2 duo or something 4.gif. Music, i use custom music and turn the in game music off.

That's all I can think of for the moment!

Oh yeah, another couple things.

You get the dreaded "no road access" zot if a residential building is built on a one-way road or an avenue. A highway I could understand, but I see houses built on one-way roads all the time here, and on four-lane roads.

You see that a certain zone wants to expand, but not into the zoning you have. Apparently they want you to demolish other zoning just to expand into that.

Nearly half of the city needs to be industry for there to be enough industry. In cities like Gary, Indiana, Flint, Michigan, Altoona, Pennsylvania, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, New York, and other rust belt cities it would make sense, but not everyone wants to build all rust belt cities.

i hate the wretched grid system in all of its boringness and inflexibility

the fact there is not chance in hell of getting to design a british/european city

lack of rivers

the rails being so wrong lack of curves and no route choice no marshalling yard is compulsory

no problems with not enough platforms freight just wants to get out not into shops or from dirty to manufacturing to commercial/out of city

lack of bus route or frequency planning it should be possible to have a bus MAKING money as well as trains

sims being lazy not being bothered walking for 5 minutes

I hate the fact that you cannot build a diagonal bridge. Also, one other thing that gets to me is how everything is in tiles... why not make it unique and have the complete control on how lots are made and where things are plopped.
