Ok, Simtrops, tell us what you really HATE about SC4...

I personally DETEST (i love that word!) that stupid movie that plays when the game is loading... urgh! I always make sure to click as fast as a can just as the Maxis logo fades... 3.gif

Also, the music.

It sucks.

Except for that song... i think it's called Street Runner or something... now that I can groove to.... but everything else is crap.

So, in the words of Peter Griffin, "What really grinds your gears?"

Go on, SC4 ain't perfect...

There is a way around the introduction moves: -intro43.gifff

insert it at the end of the target line.

And if you asked what I hate about SimCity 4: Sims insisting in using cars.

IMO the music is mediocre comapred to SC3KU.

I hate the ingame airport and seaports. I also hate the Sims constantly spamming the news box.

I hate the advisors as well, I turned off their little pop-up boxes... and the game can get very laggy after a while... esp on large cities. Also, it sometimes takes nearly ten minutes(well, it seems that long... lol) to save and return to the desktop, very annoying

Oh, and I think the musics all right, I dont usually listen to it... The only one I like is that one, electriCITY or whatever it's called

I guess I have to take back what I said about the music... Most of it is crap, some other songs are cool. I like that one that plays while your in the region view. It sounds really mythical and airy.

I don't mind U-Drive it, I just hate the missions. I would rather just drive the train around the city or something.

    Keep it coming...

Well, I really hated the "EA Games: Challenge Everything" but you could delete that and the other pregame movies.

    The water isn't that great.

    Lack of a SCURK.

    High requirements.

    No more expansion packs.

Boring nights. Where's the dark, dramatic part?

    Infinity to load and save.

    No easy cheat objects.

LOL, just happened to me32.gif!!! UGG!

I really dont like how diagional roads cannot even "try" to fit zones.  It really sucks.  When I make a diagional road in a biult up area I usially just use pavement or open grass areas for "Filler" zones which dont line up.  Also, the highways in the game really suck.  I wantted to see huge traffic jams on like 20 lane highways... in the game you may see a car or two even try to use a highway because sims avoid it.  The stuff made on the STEX help this, making it look a little bit better (asphalt textures, Car generator, signs... and, of course, the Rural Highway [RHW]).

Agree with that LivingInThePast. One thing that i also hate is the lack of money making budget items. IE parking fines.

I dont hate it, i just think that the whole mysim thing and etc could've been done better or left out and its place taken by a more interesting feature. right now its nothing special, something of a gimmick along with UDI though i like UDI because i can drive the trains etc...

The main problem with SC is EA.  The marketing guys rush the game to gold when it is only in what any sane outfit would call either Beta 2 or Release Candidate 1.  The problem is mainly that the marketing guys don't know the difference between a simulation (game) and Madden football 2007, and they don't care.

Also, with the full assumption of Maxis into EA, the TLC from the developers has disappeared.  Even a once a month visit from one of them would be nice.  If they have lost contact with the user community, how will they ever get any better at this kind of thing?  I am scared to death of what will happen with the release of Spore.  I don't expect any better product than the original SC4 release.  Sad, but true in the frenetic chase of the buck down the street.

    I hate that too.

And also that fact that ferrys will not transport garbage.

    1. I hate that there wasn't  6 lane avenues (most major cities that I know of have them) & 8 lane highways (I live right by a highway that has 8 lanes... I don't know if there are many of these world wide though).

    2. I hate the grid-only format. I wish I could make diagonal roads & the buildings on them look nicer. I also wish Simcity, like City Life, had various degrees to place diagonal roads on.

    3. Like everyone else I hate that the series has been abandoned (although SC 3000 being brought to DS is a good sign) & that there weren't any additional expansions left.

    4. Finally, and most importantly, I hate that Maxis knew we were going to make mods yet they didn't allow us to create categories for our mods! My parks folder currently has more than a 100 custom made lots that I have to scroll through! On a similar note - they should have let us add additional folders for BAT sets. That way we could have made things like German sets, Japanese sets, futuristic sets, mars sets, historic sets, western sets... the possibilities would have been endless! I really wish they would have at least made this more flexible for us.

According to the official STEX dictionary that is posted somewhere else on this site, I guess I'm what is described as a "lurker."  I download things, view a lot of the forums, and read lots of articles in the Omnibus, but don't post a lot of comments or do uploads.  Well, I don't have anything to upload yet as I'm still struggling to learn to B.A.T.  And I really don't feel it necessary to post mostly "me too" comments to forums or someboy else's B.A.T. upload.  If I feel I have a valid question or comment for the poster, something that I feel is not necessarily appropriate or interesting to the entire STEX community, I prefer to communicate via PM.  I find, though, that most of my questions have already been answered if I just look a little further.  But that's just me I guess.

    >>>>>>>  BEGINNING OF RANT . . .

What I dislike (hate is such a stong word!) about SC4 is the apparent abandonment by Maxis\EA.  Pre-release they promised stuff, like expanded rail facilities and other things, that never showed up.  And now we, the playing community, have to rely on the uncompensated efforts of SC-fan-atics for advances in the game.  Now don't get me wrong, I love to play SC4 and have the utmost respect for the B.A.T.ters, modders, mappers, etc. who have done so much to add capabilities to SC4 . . . but I really would rather spend the majority of my time actually playing SC4 than looking around the STEX for something that I feel Maxis\EA should have put in there in the first place.

BACKGROUND:   I have been playing SC since the late 1980's (1987?? 1988??), when a co-worker stopped by my office one day and threw a 3 1/2" diskette on my desk. (He did the same thing with MechWarrior, too, but that's another story.)  He said: "There's a game on that disk you might like."  It was the DOS version of SC (anybody else remember it??) and, if my feeble memory serves me correctly, it required a code of some sort to play properly.  Without the code your city was suseptible to periodic earthquakes.  My friend had cracked the code (and I in NO WAY condone or endorse such activity!!).  Well . . . to make a long story short, I liked the game so much that I went out and bought a legitimate copy so that I could register it and be a legal user (I did the same with MechWarrior, too).  And there were expansion packs back then too.  Someone made an Old West version of everything.  And there were Moon and Future building sets too.  And other things (I think I still have all those diskettes around here somewhere).  But nothing like what is being done for SC4\RH.  And I have purchased and played every upgrade since.  So, I have been playing SimCity for almost 20 years now.  I wonder how many members of this site can say that?  I would hate to guess at the number of cities that I have started over that time.  Or the thousands of miles of road and rail that I have laid.  Or the hundreds of thousands of buildings that I have built.  Sigh . . .

But to get back to the subject . . . The STEX community has gone to great lengths to add buildings, props, lots, landmarks, and functionalities to the game that Maxis\EA should have provided in the first place.  Like the NAM.  The way roads and rails are built and operate in the vanilla game has always sucked dead bunnies IMHO (no offense meant to bunnies!!).  I have always wondered why there are no single track rail lines.  Having to put two sets of tracks down everywhere is not very realistic.  Believe me, because I live half a mile from a single rail line.  It runs all the way from the Ok\Mo border to Springfield, Mo.  And I have lived in rural areas most of my life and have never seen double tracks in farm country or rural areas.  Only in or near larger cities and\or metropolitan areas are there usually multiple rail lines.  Maybe in other parts of the country things are different, I'm just speaking from my living experiences in Nebraska and Missouri.  And there are 6- and 8-lane higways in more places than you might think.  And how about 3-lane or 5-lane streets (the center lane is a left-turn lane)??  And the way seaports and airports look and function is too unrealistic.  The ability to build huge airports and various kinds of seaports should have been in there by default.  And what about container freight for your seaport?  Or a Navy base??  And why should I have to have a certain percentage of my map as water to qualify for a marina??  Any community that has a lake of any size also has a marina.  If I have a coast or a lake I should be able to have a marina.  These are just some of the things that should have been in SC4 (or even SC3) by default.  Or released an add-on pack like RH.

And there should be more (and better) ordanance options.  Like smoke alarms.  In another forum (omnibus??) I found out that smoke alarms had a .95 effect on flammability.  I got to thinking about that and decided that it was wrong.  Smoke detectors DO NOTHING to stop fires.  What they do do, is increase your chances of survival AFTER a fire has broken out.  I feel that ordanance shoud increase health by 5% or 10%, but leave flamability as is.

I don't mind the music (the ringing in my ears makes it an academic question anyhow), and I don't do the UDI missions (I'd rather just drive a vehicle around town, but wish it could be done with a joy-stick or flight controller stick).

I hesitate to think what will happen in SC5. But I have hopes.  Maybe real 3D.  With 360 degrees x 360 degrees viewing.  Being able to look at your city from any angle as well as from street level.  And being able to look straight down a street instead of having everything at angles.  And more buildings and type of buildings.

    >>>>>> END OF RANT . . .

I apologize if this is longer than what is considered proper site etiquete.  I tend to be wordy in an effort to explain my views thoroughly.  Anyhow . . . Thanks for listening!!

I can't say much really except perhaps if EA would have given Simtropolis the coding and scripts so that THEY and US could CONTINUE SC4 for them... But then there's a legal error there isn't there?

    Oh dear...

I personally don't mind the music.... I find it soothing!

What I really can't stand is the damn U-Drive-It! I think it was made quickly and wasn't thought out. It seems to me that it just doesn't belong in a peaceful game like Simcity.

Its statistically inaccurate, hard to play at first, plagued with bugs, memory hogger and no scenarios(which made Sim City fun the first place).
