What you HATE about SC4...

i actually quite like the game and have few gripes it seems there is a real conflict of

interest between those who play the game for fun (ie blowing stuff up, u drive it ect)

and those who like to recreate cities as they see them in real life.

The game obviously runs slow as all get out on large cities with lots

of plugins which makes me wonder if EA had included everything from

everyones wish list how laggish the game would be. The degree of

customization is great and the games saviour. ie you could make

single rails (NorthCountryDude has the textures already)

Also the boxiness and inability to make curved streets in a common

issue I have a feeling that a completely free for all map (no grids)

would make the game even more RAM intensive than it already is.

Looking at city life which allows this just doesn't have the same

degree of actuall city planning involved that SC4 does.

personally i could care less about the advisors, ordinances ect i turn them

off and never read them but that is the type of player i am.

the music is tight and chill also

Nice post.. Sorry I didn't catch it early until now. Yeah sometimes it slows down. I had to get rid of the MP3's I had in the music file cause it's make it hard to load up sometimes.

Well, it's great, but....

The grid is terrible. But, as it is, my computer can barely load the game in the first place...

Diagonal lots would be great, as it is less ram intensive as curced lots, but there would be a

 major issue at street corners.

I guess all I can say is, it's a great game as it is, and there is no use changin' it!

I hate that the growable trees don't have shadows. I also hate that if you make a tall mountain in one city, the shadow doesn't extend into neighboring cities.

I have had no problems with crashing. I always make sure to never run anything in the background, including downloads, and I always use the recommended settings. I also never play for more than an hour at a time.

That's true. I had thought of that too. Perhaps we could create a petition. I also wish they had joystick expansion for the UDI. I find it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to fly the planes. Wait, it is impossible!

U-Drive-It sucks! I might actually use it if it let you see the road from the inside of the car, which brings me to another point: The game would be awesome with street-level cameras and the ability to rotate around buildings at street-level. Also, the grid is good, but I wish they would've put in an option to turn the grid off (not turning the appearance of the grids off like we can now, but turning them off like they never existed in the game) so that we can build freestyle. Another thing is that they could've made the highways look better because to me they just look kind of fake.

Other than the above reasons and any I might think of later, SC4 is an awesome game to play. I don't really have a problem with game crashes, so that's an awesome thing about it!

Hmmm... I hate seeing ten buildings of the same kind pop up in a 20x20 tile space, but Simtropolis cured that issue.

I don't suffer from frequent crashes, but I do have a serious time lag.  I like to play in turtle mode because it gives me a long time to make up my mind as to what I want to do and how to do it.  So, it sometimes takes a minute or two for a "day" to go by.  I found that if I just sit and stare at the screen and wait patiently  14.gif  the game will eventually catch up to my mouse click.  I certainly hope a new pc solves most of this problem.  I'm looking forward to having to think a lot faster!!!

These are some of the problems that I don't like about SC4, with some solutions.

Music: NOTE:You can change the region/mayor music by replacing the files in the C:\Program Files\Maxis\Radio\Stations/then either Mayor or Region (make creating more fun).

I'd love to know if it is possible to change the starting music (might be embedded into video, which is embedded into disk).

Roads: Not enough configurations. I was thinking of curved pieces (for all transportation), you would pick say avenue curved then place and hold and drag.

Using ie. ctrl, or shift to increase or reverse bend. The option to place a bridge of any type any where (not requiring a mod). Buddybuds sunkenhighways is a

great platform to work from, but of course a one step process. Applying bridges that make the elevation correction automatically (with ferry height ok). When it comes to highways maxis

fell out of the loop. The game"s Highway's are more like city hwy's but even still most mayor cities have very large high speed interchanges, and many more lanes. Theres also the typical

ground level hwys that run through-out the US with a typical varying size and type medians.

PTS:      (Public Transportation System) For better management, it should be easier to locate bus/sub stations. As of now your only able see if you don't have large skyscrapers in the way

A tool that also helps you identify which aren't doing good in current location, and highlighted areas that need PT.

Zoning: If your zoning is to large (when using ctrl key) it becomes highlighted, ie. a 6x6 Dense R, shows red . A desirability tool would be great letting you see what areas

would be best for what zone. Color coded, faintly highlighted giving you a better perspective where to zone what. As of now once an area is green its most likely

desirable to all zoning, with my idea your city planner might actually be able to earn his/her living. Pointing out particular areas that would best suited for R, C, & I. You get the idea.

Weather: There isn't any! How about snow, and snow accumulation, rain, and possible flooding. Volcanic eruptions (if you have created one with terrain tool), and any others that are

realistic and has potential to be in game.

PlayerPerspective: Anyone that uses the terraformer tool knows how great and flexible the camera is. Why can't we have that same capability while in the in-game.

YouDriveIt: It sucks! In a small city this might be ok, but large cities you can't even complete mission or the missions end for no reason, or vehicle is destroyed.

I can't think of anything more right now, have to use mens room!!!!!8.gif

DioAngel, I have nearly 30 songs most I've converted into wav files but still I haven't had any lag due to music mp3 or wav. I would suggest converting to wav, I have 2.19 GHz, 1gig of ram & 148gigs left from 180gigs on a dual processor so that might make a difference.

My game LAGS bad!! 30 minutes to open my largest city!! 30 minutes!!!!!

I wish I could hear the music again. For some reason it stopped playing and when I went into options to turn it back on, all music-related boxes were greyed out. Couldn't do anything about it. It gets mind numbing playing with no music, even if its not that good.

Nerd_Guy, looks you need to check your computer. Do a disks clean up, get rid of any unecessary start menu programs running in the background, and not sure how much ram you have, but if you need to, upgrade. The grey music tracks in the game, indicate that you have replaced them with your own music or your missing the stock files and have nothing there (in any case, if you haven't touched your music files, something is amiss). When in doubt restart (uninstall to reinstall). Save your regions, and plug-ins, (I have my regions, and plug-in folders zipped and put on a flash device, and update it regularly) then reload after install. I'd also make sure your not missing something in your plug-ins folder that should be there thats in the game.

Well I hope I got your mind swimming on some idea how to fix it, nothing like a slow game to slow the fun.

Taking ones time to complete a task, only risks perfection. One who rushes, is over-whelmed with the same task and risks repeating it again.

Its awesome having variety but sometimes it doesn't play so random as it should, at least in my case. I also change my file name (my music) and replace it with stock names (I had to make up some since I ran out of numbers).

Dude forget converting, I'm a butt-head it's the other way around, so it not your music giving you issues. I have a Windows Audio Converter and I have a program call MUSICMATCH Jukebox is has it to but this sucks lass, mosts features you have to pay for full program.

Yes . . . turtle mode!!!!  (ROTFLOL)  After all, life doesn't move that fast either.  I like to have lots of time to think about what I'm gonna do, and if I play in one of the faster modes I usually see that several months have passed before I decided where to put that big grade school or where I want to put my first seaport.  When I get a city up to 150k or 200k I usually have to speed it up a bit as the turtle mode turns into glacier mode with larger cities.

DioAngel, Well to tell the truth, not sure. It was either on my system or with the lastest Windows Media Player DL. More than likely already installed since I have Media Edition XP.

Wish I could help, the musicmatch was a disk of some other program I bought, thought I'd check it out. Just goggle it you might get lucky on the first search.

Mine takes about 2 minutes for a large city, so I guess I'm actually doing pretty good considering the massive amount of plugins I have. I still hate it, though.

Here is another problem. Advisors insisting me in being a good mayor when I try to recreate communism in a city.
