About This File

The Wellington Hotel annex, located in the heart of New York City, is a historic 27-story Art Deco high-rise building that was constructed in 1929 in the vibrant borough of Manhattan. Designed by the renowned architect Robert T. Lyons to expand the 1902 building, this iconic structure boasted a rich history and timeless elegance. Unfortunately, the hotel closed its doors in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of classic New York City hospitality.

It grows on low density zones, is that intended?

Oh that's definitely not intended. I won't be able to check and fix it in the next weeks, but I'll do it as soon as I can and let you know.

To add to this conversation: not only does it grow in low density zones - it grows very frequently in those same zones. I'm not an expert on the mechanics of this game but does it have something to do with the capacity? 500 seems like a large capacity for a 1x2 lot. Was the lot PIM-Xed? If not I wonder if that might explain the imbalance?

Confirming again that the growable version of this building doesn't work correctly (as of September 12, 2023).

[EDIT - I looked at the Darknite lot only.  But I checked the file dates of both the Darknite and Maxis growable versions and they're all from 2020, so I don't know if update 1.1 from January 2022 was actually uploaded or not.]

First, it doesn't only grow on corners.  It grows everywhere a 1x2 commercial zone can exist.

Secondly,  I looked at it in PIM-X and confirmed that not only is it zoned for low, medium, and high density, but it's also set at Growth Stage 1, meaning it will grow immediately in a small city just starting out.  That cannot be as intended.  It needs to be fixed to possibly change the stage to something more appropriate, like Stage 8, and high density only.  Also, this building is set for commercial services, but at 500 jobs it is pretty high.  If you try to create a similar commercial services building in PIM-X using just the model, which appears to fill 75% of the filling degree, it suggests about 416 CS$$ jobs.

Third, the base lot properties come from the support model, not the actual building.  What I mean is that the rest of the lot's properties assume a tiny nothing of a building instead of a 27-story art deco hotel.  Compare this building to a similar building by JP Schriefer, 32 Court Street.  This one consumes 2 water, but 32 Court street consumes 672.  This building has a value of 42, and 32 Court has a value of 3539.  This building is has a bulldoze cost/worth of 81, but 32 Court costs/is worth 1306.  This building doesn't even use a crane to build, it just pops up.  32 Court obviously has a crane exemplar correctly used.

One crude way to fix this is to just convert the building model into a new CS$$ lot in PIM-X, which creates a 2x3 lot with all correct properties (and 287 CS$$ jobs).  Another way to fix it by keeping the 1x2 size is to change most exemplar properties to equal something like 32 Court Street.  If allowed, I can try to upload a new lot file or a fix.

Thank you very much for bringing the persisting issue to my attention. I believe everything is finally fixed now, at least for this file *
Since only my most recent models were created on PIM-X, I plan to revisit and modify my older files at some point. They probably have issues as well, though perhaps not as unusual as this one.

Glad to help, although this was a one-off since your buildings are normally outstanding and perfect.  I really like your work and look forward to what you may come up with next!
