Must have Mods for Orion

Issues that have been plagued players since the game's release is now answered. Some says it is the holy grail of all mods. Some says this mod + buy game/reinstall. That's right, 3k extended border aka "bigger city".

Understanding the mechanics of Orion 3k Extended Boundary.

1. Upon entering 3k extended map. based on (Image #1), The 3k map extended on North and East. Use right click mouse button or middle mouse button to bring up the compass.

2. Regional Roads are needed to draw them outside 2k map. Such as Project Akar : UI Enhancements, that offers almost every roads available to be drawn outside 2k.

3. Regarding Land Value, please refer the image below. There a lot of misunderstanding as well as misconceptions about the land value data, that was viewed in the map data.

  • The Actual Land Value EFFECTS are still intact as they are. It does not resized regardless in or outside 2k. Believe it or not. It still the same. There are claims that users may have experiences getting different wealth RCI in certain unwanted areas. These confusions is only because  we can't determine the actual "spot" of land value throughout 3k extended border, and the data from the Land Value map seems false but not entirely false information. It was compressed 4:1
  • This also applied on Pollutions, Ground Pollutions, Futurizations etc.

4. Regarding Resources. Unlike Land Value/Pollutions etc That was compressed 4:1. All Resources are stretched 1:4, see Image #3 and #4 to get better understanding on them.

  • This 1:4 stretched map data also effects oil, water, coal and ore.

Lag and memory issues

Its common knowledge that lags or frame-rate drops are known for almost every game that pushes its limits unless the users has a high-end computers. It covers almost every aspect from 3D rendering, physics (engine), memory calculations that the game generates etc. Orion (3k Extended boundary) does not lag the game itself, only that the additional space it provides for users to built in and as the city developed and getting dense - it'll stress your computer hardware.

We cant blame the game for the lags, it just happen that once we push the game to its limit, we might as well be done with better hardware.

The Game's Limitations

1. All trees outside the default border cant be remove, because there is no tree, its a facade. Only way to remove them is to edit the region map files.

2. The game already provide its regional transit, from air to land and water. We can't add Maglevs/Subways/EL and Streetcars to work between two different city vice versa. Please "make do" with the given features of each city tiles carefully.

3. There's a limit count of how many roads/buildings that can be drawn/build per city tile

  • Roads : 1024
  • RCI : 2048
  • Base Buildings : 4096 (not yet confirmed)

@coldmoney I would have to look at the specific map myself .. I will try to do so this weekend.

Actually all city boxes of Cape Trinity have this problem. The camera will always have a fixed border when moving north. Hopefully this can be fixed or somehow enable some sort of free roam camera.

Since when you guys released this mod I've been trying to install, but I can never even the original boundary of the city to expand!
I downloaded all the necessary mods (I'm sure of it)
I installed them all in the folder SimCityData
I enter the game, create the city, leave the game, restart the game, go into the city and nothing happens.
The city limit is unchanged.
What am I doing wrong?

Forgiveness for possible errors of English, I'm from Brazil.

It works. Basically play a new region, pick a city box, let the city load and save it. Then quit the game and restart it. Then click resume and the borders should now increase. To plot outside the original boundary you have to use region roads in the roads menu.

Does not work ... I do all the process, restart the game several times and all attempts, the city limits remain unchanged.
When I extracted the mods in SimCityData folder, another folder was created with the name "Project Orion - 3k Extended Boundary" and inside that folder has a 7KB file with the same name.
Simply does not work, the city limits do not expand ...
Someone help me =( I want to play big cities! =(

How did you install this mod? Did you get all 3 package files and pasted them in the SimCityData folder? The mods can't be inside a folder in the SimCityData folder.

I took the mods, put inside the SimCItyData folder and extract them there.
then the mod itself created a folder within the SimCityData and within it there is a 7KB file with the name of the mod.
this only happened with this mod in particular.

Ok, it worked! I picked up this file, took the folder created by the mod and put directly into the SimCityData!
thank you * - *

Revolutionary! I would also like to add that this should be called the 4k mod since a kilometre has been added on all four sides of the original 2*2 square to make a roughly 4*4 rectangle/square.

I notice that some users are dropping the folder into the SimCity Data file, they need to extract the files from the folder and put them in the SimCity Data file having a sub folder doesn't work. Also for the mod to work you need the RCI plop mod and UDON mod. This is clearly stated in the download instructions, if you follow the instructions to the letter you should have no problems. Zoning in the normal sense does not function outside the city boundaries that's what the rci plop mod allows you to do literaaly plop the buildings you want.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get building to plot outside the normal 2k boundary.

I installed the mod, started a city, closed the game, opened the game, see the region border move.

I build small pieces of region road outside the previous border but when I go to place buildings outside of that it won't "snap" to the road as I would expect.

Hi, I must say its a wonderful work which you guys have done. No doubt. I want to ask you if what happens to me is normal or not. I think I have installed correctly the 3 MODs and I have the original UDON, the limits are increased and so, but when I want to built a elevated road from the UDON Mod, out of the original limits, I cant. It builts on ground level, not elevated. Im using the Reginal UDON road to build it, but it doesnt work.... Is it normal or there is something I miss? Also street are built but bridges arent out of the original limits

@Docter try doing it to the North and East of the normal city boundary it only works well in two directions, see the download instructions., regarding the snap points they can be a little tricky try zooming in. Although the new boundary looks like 4k by 4k, only 3k by 3k functions.

Ok, I got it working now that I understand that it only works on 2 sides of the map.  Tricky bugger.  Size of road didn't seem to matter when I built out.  I also noticed that "Frontier Fields" city works well.

love the mod. it will be great if the roads didn't go through the terrain when building roads outside the original city tile. But really Great Mod can't wait to build a city with a proper road network.

Expanding my previous comment. I have two sets of roads UDON in my roads menu, the first, which is what allows me to build one within the original limits, is elevated, but the second group which allows me to build out of the limits , does not rise either inside or outside of the original limits.... I think it is not normal, is it?

As far as I am aware you can only use the UDON roads at ground level outside the normal city box.

I installed the AllRCI mod and the Orion mod (with regional streets, but haven´t installed regional Udons). Default border expanded nicely, RCI was easily ploppable along regional streets but I started to notice something REALLY WEIRD:

High wealth buildings developing everywhere, randomly, replacing medium/low wealth, even WITHOUT high land value. I had a greenish/white land value and a darkgreen building (high wealth) perfectly happy without complaining about low land value. Removed 3KOrion and things KIND OF got back to normal (high wealth buildings start to complaint about low land value, wich is ok since they developed on low/medium land value), BUT I noticed some "leaking" land value with no reason, since there was no nearby high wealth park (this still happens AFTER removing 3KOrion, but with AllRCI installed). I also got low land value (red zones) leaking way too far from industry facilities.

I´ll try the 3KOrion mod alone, without the AllRCI, to see what´s the behaviour... I thought that with the Orion mod alone you could ZONE (not plop) RCI. Let me add the fact that I tried with regional streets and with BoC streeets, both directly connected to "default" roads.

Any tips? :P

Thanks a lot :)

Let me preface by saying - Thank you - this is an incredible feat, Great mod.

I am experiencing the same development of high wealth in medium land value areas when using this mod in existing cities - also, medium wealth developing in low land value areas.  Is this a normal quirk?

Additionally, I am unable to RCI zone on "regional roads" (roads that look identical all the way at the end of my roads list) past the original city border.  I AM able to RCI plop tho so I believe I found the correct 2 sides I can expand.

I take regular roads (off of high density avenue in Original city) up until Original city edge then connect with regional road and attempt to zone but to no avail - is this the right way to do it?

This is a amazing mod and they have done a great job, but I have a few problems that the modders might wanna fix. (maybe i did something wrong with installing)

1- My camera is doing prety weird if I go outside de city box, it drops and down to the ground and doesn't get up if I stay outside the box. My camera will only pas two sides of the original city box.

2- If I want some roads outside the original city box I use those extra road type's, the only problem is that they place not where I want them to go. The placer (probably not called like that. Sorry my English is bad) is not at my cursor.

3- This is probably my fault, but I can't place buildings and zone outside the origional city box. How can I make that happen?

I hope the Modders will do anything about this problem, or say what I can do about it. Anyway, great job! I can see a lot comming for this ;)

It's weird ColdMoney21,

I juste create a new region in Cape Trinity the day before yesterday, I added the Orion and all the correlated mods yesterday, I played on the region, and no problem with the camera.

Are you using Cammodv2?

If not, install it, it just allow you to "dezoom" so far!!! :D

no problem for me in Cape Trinity.

Mods must be extracted and placed at the ROOT of the \simcitydata folder.. not in archives or separate folders they must exist at the root structure or the mods will not work period

you must have 10.1 and udons mod installed for regional udons to work

zones only work on 2 sides of a map and if you don't have enough space to build due to water or map size of some of the 2 city only maps then there may other complications as we did try to explain some maps do work better than others.

NO list of maps yet exist which are optimal. but i'm pretty sure users will do that for other uers soon.

its a 3k map not a 4k map.. 1024 = 1k, 2048 = 3k, 4096 = 4k this uses 3072 values 3072 = 3k not 4k and only 2 sides of the map are useable

scale is a different issue however the numbers are pretty hard coded fact and values haha :)

also 4k is more buggy than 3k and we already had 2k ;)

again UDON's mod must be installed for regional UDON's to function.. THERE IS NO RAISE OR LOWER of road structures outside the 2k limits.  This is a engine limitation we have not figured out a way to get around as of yet or maybe never.  Unknown at this point.

you MUST extract and placed .packages in the root of your \simcitydata folder or the mods will not work.

you must create a city or take over a city and exit the game after saving before going back in to see larger map scale size.

Camera was never designed to work outside a perfectly designed city boundary box.  This is anything but perfect, it does work however different maps and if you have camera mode set one way or the other or using a camera mod will change that as well.

So kind of just depends on who you are what your doing.

If you have an existing city offline then you may or may not have to go in one time and exist.  This is due to the engine not the mod.  We are trying to over ride values of data and trick the engine.  Just is what it is..

Land Value

it will be thrown off.. everything you plop and use that has an influence assigned to it will show up on your normal 2k city area so you must watch for that which will throw your normal 2k city area off completely

ground pollution, radiation and various things could happen in the normal city even if the event is WELL outside the boundary of the city.  Those values have to go somewhere and are kind of reflected back into the normal city.
