About This File

Presenting.....

INSANE FERRY!

This might be the first mod to have to come with a warning. This made peak hour very resource intensive in my city, and i have a pretty decent computer. Overusing this ferry mod will cause lagging and frame rate issues (which im assuming are the same reason they wont give us bigger cities) I do plan on making a second version of this, with reduced strength. Screenshots attached was a city with 1 ferry terminal only.

After further testing, i started to get major lag issues, so i have added a "lite" version. It isnt as overpowered as my initial release. The lite file works the same, just with reduced capacity so as to not overload the game.

This mod is split into 2 files

The first file has the core changes (insane-Ferry.package), while the second file (Insane-Ferry-2. package) gives the cruise ships a good dose of nitrous oxide in their fuel system, this is not a required file.

This mod does not modify the passenger dock, only the ferry terminal and cruise ship dock.

  • Increased terminal and cruise dock capacities and capabilities
  • Increased maximum of 5 docks instead of 2
  • Major boost in tourists
  • No Queues. multiple ships will dock at once, some seem to loop back and dock again in a different dock.
  • Second file boosts speed of cruise ships, they come and go a lot faster.

Installation Instructions :

  1. All Files are in the zip, The main mod is Insane-Ferry.packaged. The cruise ship speed mod is Insane-Ferry2.packaged. Place the files you want into your SimCityData folder.
  2. This mod requires a copy of SimCity-Scripts_287520926.package in the SimCityData folder.
  3. Launch Game.

Enjoy!

Edit 23/04/14

So after a lot more testing with the lite version, i've had a city up to 430k residents fully maxed out build grid and getting over 600k tourists via 2 ferries. almost zero lag issues, so im pretty happy that the modifications i made to the lite version. Im deleted the original upload and left only the lite version to download. No changes to the lite mod have been made, im not sure that it needs any changes, the mod seems to work very well.

This is not a bug with his mod, I have seen this problem before his mod, this is a SimCity issue.

Not sure if I need to start a new game or anything, but when I try to place a new dock down, I pay for it but it gets removed. This might be a bug within the mod?

Also, I'm getting traffic jams with boats now xD

Tip: A good way to combat the adverse effects of too much tourists is to build a Launch Arcology nearby where ever the tourists are the most. The tourists will say "Going back to his/her city", or "Going home", and will walk right into the Launch Arcology and sit there till it fills to 10,000. With so much tourists around, it's simply matter of few game days, and then you launch the Launch Arcology, get rid of those tourists, and get paid a handsome fee from the Lauch Arcology tickets too! ;)

Any reason why I still cannot plop down more then 1 of the cruise docks? The second gets removed the very moment I put it down.

Yes, SimCity-Scripts_287520926.package is in the SimCityData folder.

Delete the dock entirely and buy a new terminal then start adding your cruise ships....this worked for me.

You are correct. I tried doing this before, but the Ferry always ended up under water. It worked this time. Thank you!

I'm getting the same thing with just "Insane-Ferry-Lite.package" installed. Not sure whats going on here, this mod is whacking out the ferry placement.

Nice try I hope you can get it fixed.

SimCityData like he said

Having the "SimCity-Scripts_287520926.package" file in SimCityData folder and another one in the packages folder will cause the game to crash on startup... Which sucks for me as I want to use this mod for my casinos, but want to also use other mods.

I guess that's why I'm getting the bug listed above and its not the game, its the mod without that script file in the SimCityData folder it will cause that issue. I guess I'll have to make due without until someone can figure out how to put a mod like this in the package folder.

Sounds like a great mod! Can be used online?

No mod that changes stats can be used online, only mods that REPLACE textures of current buildings in the game and very limited things (xoxide's new UDoN Mod for online use).  For example, if you use the Unisphere mod by oopie, it can be used online as it replaces texture of a building already in the game; however, other people playing in the same region as you, will see the original building instead of the sphere. With UDoN mod, other people that don't have the online UDoN mod will NOT see the one way streets, only the equivalent 4-way bidirectional roads; however, they MIGHT see the traffic only going one direction on it, idk.

However, mods that are interactive toward other players in the region, affecting them (like trade, ferries that go between your port and theirs, power, water, sewage, stats of buildings, etc) they cant be used online UNLESS MAYBE, and that's a BIG IF, everyone in the region has all the same mods.

Btw, I'm having same ferry placement problem too on the lite version. I havent tried the other version. I thought it was a conflict between xoxide's coastline and waterways mod but it isn't.

Id like a version that only increased the number of docks (and if necessary, the frequency of ships so all the docks can feel like they have the same usage pattern)
