I like this idea, but wouldn't that require modification to the game engine?

What's wrong with sandbox mode? Sure, it's not as difficult, but a million tourists is impressive nonetheless.

I've actually contacted Origin customer support and said in plain English that a pirated copy of one of their games works better than a bought copy. Slightly surprised they didn't do anything, slightly not.

You need medium and high wealth workers in your industrial buildings to raise the tech level (from my experience). If you have any processor/electronic factories, those are going to suck your educated sims away from your industry.

I also, erm, obtained a copy via questionable means, so I could play the CoT expansion (too poor to afford it), and I had this same bug happen. For the record, I do have a legal copy of the base game https://i.imgur.com/4wcYkSA.png

That was odd, It appears that replacing the buildings fixed it.

So, I started playing Simcity today for the first time in a while, and I added some mods because last time I played vanilla it sucked. But now some of the vanilla buildings won't work. My Coal Mine and Ore Mine are "closed by mayor" but there is no option for me to enable/open them Pics: https://imgur.com/a/Yi8M2 List of mods: Just tried it in vanilla, same error, so I'm assuming it's not mod related.

Assuming that your location under your username is correct, the cheapest plans I could find for your area was AT&T's DSL Pro plan which is 3.0Mbps at 15$ a month, which is pretty decent.
