I'm sorry, but I really don't see the point. Installing a downloaded map to SimCity 4 requires SC4 mapper, and with that, it's easy to create a region like this by yourself. It would take less than five minutes. If you're planning to upload a map to the STEX or BSC exchange, I would recommend you to make it more interesting than just a flat square.

I hope for another attempt soon. :)

The download contains only a config.bmp.  There is no map.  Mapper will create an SC4M file containing terrain parameters.

This is not necessary if you are good with a graphics editor and can make the required revered grey-scale jpeg file or you could use the Landscape Designer by Greyveil to generate your map.  These grey-scale maps can be rendered by the game by pressing CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+r.

Flat maps like that can be made with a click of the mouse inside the game, so this one is irrelevant.

Deconstructing the region. Re-invention from mrwheel. A flat region without plains? Outstanding satire! Come now - upload something worthwhile or I'll come over there and give you a spanking.

I love the way these bad region downloads are advertised with variations on the line, "you can easily add changes." What service! What freedom of choice! Milton Freidman lives again!

Sure, it's not a very good region, but there's no reason to talk down on the upload, and even less reason to talk down on the uploader themselves. The fact that you're not even being constructive with your terrible criticism leaves me (and probably a moderator or two) to believe that you have nothing to do on this community.

I don't whats the point of this map, when you can create a new region and it will be automatically flat. But otherwise then that *horse voice* I love It!

I don't post much, but I do love that someone can upload almost nothing, yet most of the comments are gentle, constructive criticism. That's rare on the Internet.

I suppose this is good if you don't know how to make a config file; I'm sure, though, that you could find similar blank maps like this anyway.

i hope this doesnt start a trend

The quality of maps on STEX have gone down drastically, especially since a handful of good mappers left the site stopped making SC4 maps forever :/

This is something that everybody can create and there are already a few maps like this uploaded in STEX. Don't just give an empty canvas to the players to put their paints on. Make your canvas and give it your colors.

We have already plenty of creativity. All we need is diversity :)

Hmm it seems like this has been a trend lately. Recent member posts a map, at least 10 comments with some of those just outright putting it down and the download just get down-rated to obscurity. But from what I can see, there are a few outstanding issues with this map, but here are some suggestions that might help you create a stronger map:

First, I would seriously recommend reworking the presentability . The description and title are kind of weak and the picture tells me nothing. The title is bland; it is just a four letter word. Perhaps if you were to rename it Fairbanks or Fairview, then its likely to attract STEX downloaders. The pictures work the same way. If you included more pictures and especially ones where you have water/terrain mods in place, then it would make users interested in your works. Remember, Simtropolis users are here to download what they don't have. And as for your description, be creative with it. Write a back story or give the technical details of your map. If you're ever in doubt on what to do, you could draw ideas from other files such as this San Felipe, Mexico by NHP.

Next to be addressed, the map itself. It is literally just a flat piece of land that I can easily recreate in five seconds. There is much more to a basic terrain than a blank plane of land. Notice how in the picture there are high points, low points, craggy spots and smoother spots as well as river ways and other unique geological features? That's the idea. You want to give the player a challenging (but not something that is impossible) to build on. You really should have included the most basic geological features to spruce up your map. This would make a player's experience much more worthwhile than just telling them 'you can edit it in any way'. Consider this- have you ever tried to do something but it was taking so long you wondered is it even worth it? This is what the players will be thinking if they did try editing the map themselves.

And lastly, don't be discouraged by the comments other members leave here. Some will leave nasty comments, but let them. They're trolls and they will say what they want. Just take the constructive criticism that's given to you and learn from what you're being told. If you are lost and don't know what to do, you can use the forums anytime. You will be given instant feedback and when the time comes to upload it will do well on the STEX. I will not rate nor download, but I hope you see my advice as helpful.

It's a waste of a download, all you have to do is change the config.bmp on any new region to achieve the same effect.

Come on guys, be nice. At least he's actually contributing SOMETHING. Maybe some people don't want to mess with config files, this would be for them.
