About This File

This is my first upload, a map of the continent of Westeros from A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) by George R.R. Martin.

I plan to do a CJ on this map eventually.  This is a fictional map measuring 40x17 small cities across. The map is based on this  fan-created map.  I've included a custom config file with large cities centered on the locations of the main cities mentioned in the novels (King's Landing, Lannisport, Old Town, White Harbour).  Please note the map is not to scale.  Being a fictional land, there is no exact scale. Fans generally believe Westeros is roughly the size of Europe.  I personally think its closer in size to the UK.  But either way, this is massively reduced in scale. Also, the mountains are more gentle rolling hills than actual mountains. That's just based on my personal preference of having less land taken up by unusable mountains.

I created this using paint.NET and SC4 Terraformer.  File is in SC4M format so you will need to follow these instructions to install it.

I just don't see how the travel times of characters in the books matches up with the supposed size of the continents.  Plus a few geographic details don't match up with the size, like the supposed choke point at Moat Cailin.  But that's a discussion for another message board.

Nah I've always thought it was the size of the UK, it took Roberts party about a month to reach winterfell from Kings Landing and that was with a Royal Procession..

Looks nice. Could we have an region view, though (like from Startup Manager or Region Census?)

Having tried something similar (convert a fantasy map for SC4 usage), I know what a challenge it can be to make a quality fantasy map, so well done. (From what I can tell, this is better than my attempt).

Perhaps we could see the config, as well? (I like playing in Large to medium cities almost exclusively)

4.6/5; I'll know more after seeing it in Trimetric view. Thanks for sharing.

I really like this map, reading the books at the moment it came out just at the right time to catch my attention!

I've loaded it up and started playing it (starting from Sunspear down in Dorne) and I think you've got the scale spot on in terms of city sizes and distances. I agree that Westeros more like the UK (always thought the map was based on the UK) or West Europe at a push.

The only thing I do not like about the map is the mountains and detail, but this is just my opinion. I enjoy working with mountains, it breaks the maps up a bit and gives a challenge, and love a bit of snow about the highlands. So have edited it quite a bit to make the mountain ranges more substantial, but again it is just my opinion and nothing fundamentally wrong with the map. The coastline is grand.
