About This File

NEW in Version 2.0: "Wavy Walls" are now completed, and available in the same 6 textures as the linear walls. Also, now only the wooden walls have a flammability value.

NEW in Version 1.1: 5 new texture sets, including Brick, Concrete Block, Panel, and Tile, as well as a darker Wood texture.

This is a complete Highway Noise Barrier set for SimCity 4, created using the BAT. These walls are almost purely ornamental, as I figured sound walls in real life don't necessarily increase desirability, but rather negate the NIMBY effect of a highway. Therefore they include a small pollution reduction and minor park effect. I also tired to price the wall segments at a realistic rate comparative to the cost of actually constructing a segment of roadway. If anybody has problems with any of this, please PM me, as some tweaks will surely need to be made.

Not all wall sets need to be used. Use only the ones you like. You may also safely remove the 2- and 3-tile diagonal pieces if you find them too difficult to use.

The walls are nice, although the occasional tree probably wouldn't go astray... but I can probably change that in the LE myself anyway...

Good first attempt. Thou upon using it the diaginal peices are very hard to use. Also the longer diagonals use only 1 square with the fence overhanging the rest of the tiles. this makes it very hard to place and destroy if need be.

Also regarding the level ground issue, make them slope conforming but when on a slope the poles stay vertical.

I tried playing around with the slopes but to no avail. With the conforming terrain option it looked worse than the non-conforming alternative. Perhaps a more experienced modder or such could find a way to make it look better.

Wall directions can be changed as any other lot. Just keep in mind that the side of the lot closest to the edge is designed to be the side towards the road. Although there are enough pieces to build them backwards.

Finally, I am in the process of creating 5 new texture sets: Patterned Brick, Concrete Block, Concrete Panel, Dark Wood, and Tile. Technically they will be interchangable, but it would be a pretty strange looking wall!

The problem with these kind of structures is that they always create so many menu items. But keep it up, sound walls are a very basic thing to have in Sim City.

Smart and simple, they're another something Maxis forgot within a list of 100+ stuctures/items. Hats off to you!

9.92 MB??? That's hell on a dial-up connection! Are you sure you didn't copy the same model over and over again for their respective sizes? When you DO release a newer version, make sure the file size is a bit smaller. :)

Yeah, the 10MB filesize is quite a bugger.I'm going to download the update (I downloaded the original) soon - not now, because it's 4:00am here and I haven't yet slept, and I have an appointment at 10:00am. Good to have the wavewalls finished too.
