Persistent Automata Mod Version 2

This simple mod makes automata much more persistent.  Cars will no longer fade in and out constantly.

It is a modified version of NAM's automata controller, originally modded by Shadowman131 in 2008.

I have continued to work on this mod and learned a lot about automata in the process.  There are now three flavors:

*Persistent_Automata_Low.dat is a low spawn version.  It will look better in rural areas and low to medium suburbs.

*Persistent Automata_Med.dat is a medium spawn version.  It will look better in larger suburbs or mid to high density cities.

*Persistent Automata_Hi.dat is a high spawn version.  It looks best in high density and can make even non busy networks look congested.

To install: * First delete any earlier version - TrafficFixes_.dat*

Extract the version of your choice into your plugins folder, and make sure you either delete NAM's automata controller....

(..Plugins\Network Addon Mod\NetworkAddonMod_Automata_Plugin_.dat)

...or put a Z in front of the file name to ensure it loads after NAM's.

(ZPersistent_Automata.dat)

Changes from Version 1

*Fixed UDI problems.  There are now very few cars on the roads during UDI.  You may have to drive a few tiles to see the effect but the traffic will disappear quickly.

*I've completely reworked commute and occupant trip clocks over all three versions to create a more realistic looking commute and normalize traffic spawn. This took a few hundred tweaks (number of versions that went intothe recycle bin) and I think the result is more realistic.

*Normalized commute times and shortened the commute peak hours.

In the low and medium versions, the commute is still very noticeable but doesn't clog roads as much and clears up more quickly.  In the high version there is a more defined commute and a much less congested look during off peak hours.

*Modified the occupant trip clock to act as a counter balance to the normal commute.

There are now a bit more cars going opposite the normal commute direction.

*Bus traffic now will spawn in alternate directions every other tick.

So far, I've been unable to make buses any more persistent.  They will not obey the 10 tile minimum distance if there is a bus stop nearby.

*Decreased freight truck traffic during commuter hours.

I am quite sure the mod works. If you don't like it that's alright. Sounds to me like you just looked at it for five seconds and made up your mind that it doesn't work. Try following a few cars with NAM's automata controller, then try following a few with this mod, and you will see that it does indeed work. Also if it did spawn as many cars as NAM, you would have 24 hour gridlock.

I added a "z" to the the beginning of the file but it doesn't appear to want to work with nam installed for me. Or its something else preventing it from working, idk.

Finally a solution! Thank you! Worked like a charm and looks fantastic! Before, I could only stop cars from disappearing by lowering the game settings (I have no idea why that worked). With or without NAM I had the problem. But this fixed it 100%!

Let me get his right (and someone please respond). This mod will not only make cars last longer but also increase the amount of vehicles on roads? I really need to know.

i think you have tio take out your radical traffic 24hr automata mods from nam before you put in any persistent automata med mods otherwise they will conflict

This plugin is so awesome :)

It really completes a city's total look, I mean a city with over 500k population would look dull if its streets &/or roads are not jam packed with cars you know :)

One major draw back though, if you're like me & your computers's 4 or 5 years old, more automata mean more stuff the game has to "draw" & that would mean several instances of lag &/or frame rate skips.

But hey. most of you probably have specs that make this game run like it's not even a big deal so go for it :)

10/10!

This is a masterpiece. Now my cars that drive around hardly fade out and on high, you can tell rush hour from the other time of days. My suburb looks so crowded at 7:00pm with traffic backed up, like my suburb in real life! 12332/100

For those of you having issues getting it to work correctly, below is what worked for me!

1. Make sure you delete the following "Traffic Simulator" dat file:
• NetworkAddonMod_Automata_Plugin_Radical_Automata24.dat
(Your "Automata" file may be named different than "Radical" depending on the option you chose to install)

2. Drop the "Persistent_Automata_Hi.dat" file or whichever version you chose into the "Network Addon Mod" folder. (Normally located under Documents - SimCity 4 - Plugins - Network Addon Mod)

I freaking love this mod & it's worth figuring it out to get it working!

I hope this has helped someone.
