Hammond Building, a SHUR Project release by JBSimio

This is the fourth release in the Skipjack Historical Urban Restoration Project.  Learn more about the history of this project here.  The Hammond Hotel was originally built downtown in 1922 by Douglas Hammond.  The city was booming at the time and Hammond was hoping to profit from the many travelers passing through the area.  The building boasted elaborate stonework and grand entrances.  It was also among the first towers in town to have elevators.  The hotel went out of business in the early 1960s, but the building did not remain vacant for long.  Although the building saw several owners and various uses over the next few decades, it was able to survive without the damage and decay of many other historic structures in town.  When the Skipjack Historical Society began negotiations to renovate the building, they were pleased at how little work would be needed to return the building to its former glory.  The first floor was overhauled and several shops were added in the front.  The rest of the building was divided into offices and lofts.

Aside from the excellence of this creation. I note the admiration and comments from 8 other talented Bat/Lot/Modders (so far). You deserve the accolades. Great job.

It is perfect in almost all ways. The only thing that would do with some improvement are those too harsh night lights on the roof. Lights like that could be right on stage, but not in real life situations. Same (to the smaller degree) goes to the window sills. But that all just a minor things considering that otherwise this is a fantastic release! Especial praise goes to the great combination of brick surface and concrete detailing!

Wow... what a response! Thanks everyone. I guess bigger buildings really do get all the glory. @Simfox: Yeah, I know... I'm still fine tuning my lighting style in certain areas. I guess it's just the price you pay for having window sills!

The Hotel King Edward? That's what it's called, huh? I always wondered... I just thought it was cool looking! lol

And also not having any falloff. The spots on roof look like it is a stage, not a roof. All this is so annoying just because the building itself, its colors, textures and overall feel are just perfect!

Excellent!!! This is my favorite style of architecture. Late 19th-early 20th centuries. Simply amazing. I know just where to use this building.

Great builiding. Do you know if the building its based on is (or was) a Masonic Temple? Looks very similar to one in downtown Wilmington NC (where i live).
