Chalfonte Apartments, a SHUR Project Release by JBSimio
This is the second release in the Skipjack Historical Urban Restoration Project. Learn more about the history of this project here. The Chalfonte Apartments are located along the edge of SkipjackPark and is another early apartment building owned by Joseph Worthington. Built at a time when urban apartment living was fashionable, the Chalfonte showcased elaborate detailing and elegant interiors. The building spent many years slowly deteriorating until finally being adopted by the SHUR Project. Although a sizable grant was awarded, the expense of restoring the building still ran well beyond what the project could afford and many original details were lost to time. This is most noticeable in the rear of the building where many details crumbled beyond repair.
The Chalfonte is based on an apartment by the same name in Detroit. This release contains two versions and several lot sizes. The full version, labeled Chalfonte Apartments, contains medium wealth lots of 4x2 or 4x3. A half version, labeled Chalfonte Walkup, contains a medium wealth 2x3 or a low wealth 2x2.
