Residential Population Halving Mod  1.0

About This File

Tired of the ridiculous population densities in SC4, which necessitate unrealistically large portions of your cities being devoted to commerce and industry?  Akin to the Industry Quadrupler, this mod halves the population--normal and at all applicable levels of dilapidation--of all of the game's built-in residential properties.  WARNING: If you plan to use residential BATs from the STEX or other sources, they will take over your cities unless you make sure to cut their populations in half as well.

Much thanks to iLive and DarkMatter for their respective DAT-editing programs.

Instructions: Simply download and unzip to your Program Files plugins directory.  A "Residential Halver" directory will be created for you.

Bout time this came along ,Ive been sick of a having a couple blocks for a city, and the population would add up to like 100.

great idea! im going to use it, since with the NAM and Industry Quadroupling Mod, i can have cities that really sprawl like the ones in reality... or at least cities here in America...

Wow! Just found this mod. I'm a total realism freak, so this is absolutely great! I really got sick of having my suburbs have the population density of Baltimore.

Awesome...I've always been frustrated by vast expanses of industry and commerce. Housing always takes up much more space than other building uses.

I love this modd and it is the very best one on the whole STEX for realistic city building. One thing though : the industry-commerce-residence space ratio in the game is actually quite accurate. Could anyone programm a general density halver that would also concern industry and shops? Small shops 1x1 with 47 jobs are starting to be annoying... Great job though, this is a 9/10

Good work! What about a general enlager for schoolbus and ambulance radius? Is that exsisting or possible? Otherwise I try do it manually. But just a bit, like * 1,3 or 1,4

I think this is fine for the small houses, but the apartments are alright. My only questions is: does this impact the lag? I ask this because around 200,000-300,000 my cities really slow down, so if this helped me grow bigger cities without the lag, then I would use this. Can anyone say?

Slightlyslack, I positively love your mod, only it's not working in my game. How come? I placed it in the directory you said, but Maxis residential still have the same population. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Thank you!

How about making a modification that only reduces the amount of people on the low density houses? Also, regarding the size of Sim families, it makes me think on households of the 1960s (developed Western World, like the USA), where a family of ten was not unusual. Overall, I think the SimCity games are based on that kind of setting (the baby boomer urban sprawl).

Another realism freak here, checking in to say thanks. This is great - a must-have for my games.

@slightlyslack: there's interesting quirk you might want to look at. I plugged this in halfway through a game, and although it halved the populations of every Residential building, and halved the R-curves on the population graph, the population displayed on the main UI and on the region map did not halve. That makes less of a difference if you plug in near the start of a game, but if you can fix this, it might attract more people who get well into through a game before realising their suburbs look like they're full of youth hostels.

I love this modd, its great because when your city hits 100k.you actually have 100k population traffic wise.instead of having 580k,with barely any traffic plus it helps so your city does not get overrun by commerical, idustry.

would love to download this, but i already have like 600-700 megabytes worth of downloaded houses/apartments, so it'd be a lil too much work to get it balanced

really like the idea though, having a normal road become congested because of 1 R$ building is just ridiculous

oooo...correct me if I'm wrong...but you're saying I will only have non-halved residential lots that I downloaded from this site that will build instead of the default housing thats halved? That sounds like a good bargain....hrrmm..
