Residential Population Halving Mod  1.0

About This File

Tired of the ridiculous population densities in SC4, which necessitate unrealistically large portions of your cities being devoted to commerce and industry?  Akin to the Industry Quadrupler, this mod halves the population--normal and at all applicable levels of dilapidation--of all of the game's built-in residential properties.  WARNING: If you plan to use residential BATs from the STEX or other sources, they will take over your cities unless you make sure to cut their populations in half as well.

Much thanks to iLive and DarkMatter for their respective DAT-editing programs.

Instructions: Simply download and unzip to your Program Files plugins directory.  A "Residential Halver" directory will be created for you.

why? most of us play this game to either see how beautiful a city we can make or how large - or both - or an inventive layout.

Well, I reckon this is a good thing for people who play without downloads and prefer having realistic amounts of RCI zoning over having more population with unrealistic zoning distribution. Personally, I still prefer the industry quadrupler, though.

I am not sure of automatically halving the populations, but I love the photo, it's a classic!! Absolute genius!

Damn. Just last week I spent a ton of time manually reducing all my residential populations... Why didn't this come out sooner? ;) Though, personally, I reduced mine even more. Most homes in my game hold, well, a family. 1-6 persons, with most holding 4. :)

Guys, give him a break. It may not be for everyone, but I'm sure the realism freaks who not only like to make their city LOOK real, but WORK real too would love this. It's just not everyone's thing. That's all.

This mod is certainly not for all those guys who try to reach one million residents. It is the logical consequence following the industy quadrupler and such - and I think it will make the game pretty realistic. Have you ever seen a one- or two-story private house with more than 5 or 6 inhabitants?

Obviously, some on the STEX don't like my picture of Mike Watt. Jam econo! :P No, this mod isn't for everyone. But if you want realism--and that's the spirit of the NAM and the IQM--this is for you.

Would be nice to go with a mod that makes pedestrian traffic willing to travel a lot further, and making more realistic balance of transport use. This driving 100m to the train station is kind of odd. Well I'm going to give it a go.

What a great idea! I'm proud to play without wanting to reach 1 000 000 000 000 Sims in my cities!!!

xcalbier: I have play-tested this quite a bit and you do get no job zots with high-wealth properties. This may or may not be realistic; the game is entirely too willing to build high-wealth housing "on spec," as it were.

bloo: check out the Network Addon Mod (commonly known as the NAM), which radically improves the game's traffic model.

Simple and effective idea. Not all people in R$ buildings have eleven children, after all - though the tabloids might make you think otherwise here in the UK at least :D A useful tool for realism purposes.
