Still very typical- close after WW2 those were R$$ and even R$$$ homes for families, very small 4 or 5 rooms apartments only one bathroom, tiny kitchen - compared to the ruins of war: pure luxury. This is from a time when a family had two parents, grantparents and 3 children - so 5 to 7 familiy members could live together on 80, 90 square meters. Today they are R$ with totally outworn installation and the room size doesn't meet the requirements of modern living anymore nor doest the apartment layout fit modern families often two or three people, requiring maybe 3 rooms on the same amount of space.

It's not necessary cheap living space. In the big cities they can be expensive too and are symbols of the exploitation of the poor.

Each single room f.e. is let furnished to students at 200, 250 Euro - so,  5 x 200, they get easily a rent of 1000 Euro for a run-down apartment.

It's one of my favorite bats because of the high realism.
