About This File

Yes... it produces electricity. Yes... traffic can travel across it. Yes... its designed for use with the PEG Pond Kit II. And Yes... it's pretty DAM cool!

Finally, the long lost hydro dams of yester-versions are back to provide your Sims with clean & cheap power. Now you can run a river down from your mountains using the Pond Kit II and build a series of these Hydro Dams that will provide even your largest cities with ample power & water.

Each dam produces about the same power as a Solar Power Plant. With version 2.07, each dam will increase the efficiency of connected water pumps by an extra 4,000 cu per month. The building & maintenance costs are about the same as a natural gas power plant.

** This lot is not transit enabled. Its a single lot that plops on both sides of an existing road, street or rail. You can also run elevated rail across it... or trail parks... or zone it and see what develops.

This package includes the Waterfall Bottom lots (PEG_Pond-WFB_205.dat) that can be used to create the water turbulence on the lower side of the dam.

Dependencies:
PEG Pond Kit II
PEG 24/7 Mod (used for water turbulence effect)

All Pegasus files are now legacy content and are no longer officially supported - however support from the wider community can be requested here.

... (cont) The weak point in well constructed dams is not the dam itself... but the rock/soil its anchored to. The outward convex channels the energy & pressure to the middle of the dam and away from those weak points.

Once again, excellent job of providing to the community something that should have been included in the game. Great work! 10

The only problem I have with it are that the textures are not of the best quality and that it is hard to plop...:S

dev: Yeah, you've mentioned twice now that you don't know how to plop it. Its really very simple (just like RTK3 lots) and the readme file contains good instructions on how to do it. If you're still having problems, log onto the support site where there are quite a few folk that can help you out.

I thought it was impossible to do.I was wrong. The curve of the damwalls is supposed to be the contrary.

Haha--- yeah, I was just gonna make the same comment as gladiator-- the dam should curve inwards upstream. The way it is now it would snap like a twig because of the high bending moment in the centre. Oh well.

6459978: If you had read the comments above, you'd see that's incorrect. Its modeled after a real-world 'gravity' dam. Different principle than the high/thin wall dams like Hoover.

** PLEASE NOTE - There is a bug in the monthly budgeting aspect of the dam. Keep an eye on the Local Funding slider control in the Dam's UI. The game may force the local funding down after the lot is plopped or after additional power plants are added. An update will be forth coming.

PEG, This is simply FANTASTIC... I live in Canada where Hydro Power is common, and I've waited a long time for a REALISTIC Hydroelectric Dam. This is a DAM good thing.....pun intended :-)

** UPDATE NOTICE - This file has been updated to correct funding & costs issues. The new version also acts as a water source & increases efficency of nearby water pumps... like fresh water sources did in earlier SC4 versions. Be sure to DELETE THE PREVIOUS VERSION'S FOLDER.

Exellent!! However one concern.. for those looking fo realism. The dam curves the wrong way. It is no where near the size of Hoover Dam, but look at that one. See how that one curves. This is for structural reason. Either than that, good job.
