There used to be a great tutorial on photo editing in GIMP on this site, I don't remember if it was a separate post or contained in a CJ entry. Despite searching for it I can't find it, I'm wondering if anyone knows where it is located? I remember it had a lot of useful advice around contrast, saturation, sharpening, etc. I've been away from making City Journals for so long I've forgotten a lot of my old tricks!

Has anyone ever compiled a list of prominent CJs (and other forum threads) where the pictures have NOT been lost to time? Most if not all old CJs (and pictures on other forum posts too!) before 2013 (and some past that even) host their images on third parties, many of which became a paid service (after that, most moved on to Imgur). Some hosted it on their website and they were teenagers back then, now they're adults and that same webpage is used for their personal projects unrelated to SC4. So we now have a lot of content, if not the majority of content on this site that has been lost to time and probably even forever - at least PhotoBucket to my knowledge, has opened up its pictures again but with a watermark now. Some image hosting domains may still be running even more obscure ones like fotki, and some more well known ones like blogspots' hosting service and Flickr. Is it even possible to restore images from, lets say, photobucket? Thing is, a lot of these CJs, threads, and such have (or may have!) some historical value. Perhaps as a monument to the 00s too! Some even have plotlines and such which rely on the images to provide context, without the context they're nothing!. I enjoyed reading those threads as a kid back then and want to read them again but unfortunately the images are now gone and the only thing I have remaining are images semi-burnt into my brain and the lucid-dream world I live in (while fully asleep of course!). Thanks!

Pikiviets : (strongly inspired by Odessa, with a free state of mind) Pikiviets (ukrainian : Pikiviets; russian Pikoviets) is an harbour city on the coast of the Black Sea. It is the administrative capital of the Oblast Dnistrovsky The first trace of a human occupation of the area, was by the Scythan. It was followed by a Greek colony. During the 3rd Century, the life of the colony become uncertained, because of the invanders of the Huns, Goths and Slavs nomades peoples. Finally the city becomes a territory of Tatars, like its sister city Odessa. The Tatars were hard fought by the Poles and Moldovans. However, the city fell into the hands of the Ottomans. It was during the Russo-Ottoman conflict that the city joined the Russian Empire. However, it fell into oblivion in favor of the new Odessa. During the Crimean War, Odessa was bombed. After the conflict the need to have a backup port put Pikiviets forward again. Its port was then developed and the city then known an expansion without stop until our days. During the 1905 revolution, Pikiviets experienced little trouble. During the 1917, a local council of soviets was established, however the city experienced division and street fighting, because a significant part of the city prefers to follow the Central Rada, which is against the Bolshevik regime. The civil war breaks out between white Russian, Soviet and Ukrainian nationalist. In 1921, the city was finally conquered by the Red Army. During World War II the city located very close to the old Romanian border falls quickly and suffered little damage at this time, even the important coastal battery (still visible) facing the sea will be of little use, because taken in reverse. The port knows partial sabotages. However to the reconquest in 1944, the infrastructures of the city undergo important damages and a lot of old quarter are destructed by the hard street combats. The city has a good development in the 70s, its port helping a lot to its economic growth. It is also a gateway to foreign currencies. At the fall of the USSR, the city becomes Ukrainian. The development of its port is then encouraged and knows a good extension. Becoming one of the most important ports after those of Odessa and Mariupol. Economy: The city counts on the following industries, shipbuilding, refining, chemistry, metallurgy, agribusiness and a fishing port. In addition to its port, it has a local bonded airport. Its rail system is very developed. The city has a leading ferry terminal. Tourism is an important matter for the city. Port of the city of Pikiviets Culture : The city has many parks, an opera, a number of museums, including a history museum with an important collection of paintings, a recognized conservatory, a significant number of theater. Its architecture is in a particular style reflecting the cosmopolitan side that brings its port and its rich history. Tourism : The city is a very popular holiday resort, especially by the elite. The many sandy beaches along the coast have been valued, the mild climate is very popular. Different amusement park are present. Unfortunately the coast sometimes suffers from luxury real estate projects and resorts that are built without taking into account the impact on the landscape. The city is renowned for its architecture and the particular philosophy of these people, known for being good living and open. The most photographed places are the town hall and the Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol Square The City Hall (in background, the Opera) : Square N.V. Gogol The famous big stairs of N.V. Hi all, I've been playing Sim City since I was 3 years old, and Sim City 4 since its launch in 2003, but one thing that has always staggered me since finding Simtroplis in 2009 is the scale of detail you see people put into the cities in city journals and the "Show us your x" threads. I'd love to know how players did it, I've been working on the same region for six years and yet its nowhere near city journal quality. I've tried experimenting with pond mods over the years, but I find them very difficult to use and ultimately just give up trying to make a realistic stream. Do players plan how their city will look on paper before creating? Or do they not actually play for the simulation but just play for the modelling? If anyone has any tips on creating such detail I would be glad to know. Thank you.

I am kinda new here. I'd like to know why after having a 4MB limit on the amount of uploads possible for my CJs (not a problem), it has suddenly gone down to 2MB + , and then to 0,87 MB. Why the sudden rationing ? Is there a limit *per member* ? Seems unlikely...

Swansea is a nice city located on the far north east of Timbuktu. I revamped the city much like my other older cities. However, transport is a bit of an issue and the highway needs to be upgraded to a motorway/freeway standard. Below, is a picture of Swansea before the revamp when it was called Dylin.

The town of Auckland is much like it's real life counterpart (except with out the apartments) and it's now a nice, clean, liveable city. Nestled near the Timbuktu Lake, this city takes advantage of it's majestic location and is also home to beautiful red woods. However, it was not always like this. It was previously like other Timbuktu cities, horrible and disgraceful. Please comment and rate this

Welcome! This forum is dedicated to City Journals for the new SimCity (2013). We've created this forum for those who prefer to use the forum format for their City Journals. Each journal will be a single linear thread, and you will post updates and receive feedback in the same thread. In this forum, one thread is one journal. Use it if you wish. For those who want much more control of their journals, please use the dedicated City Journal section, where each entry is its own page (thread) with its own comments. Where you can create multiple city journals, draft your entries, re-order your entries, add sidebar items, and so on. The dedicated City Journal option also allows you to have more than one contributor if you wish. Looking forward to seeing your cities! -dirktator

If you were buying a new home, would you ever think of buying a new house on a Volcano? The tiny town of Vale did just that! Residents had excellent views, however they never had peace of mind. There have been several close encounters with the settlement and lava has come as close as 500 metres to the township! Originally, Vale was once a State Park and had no settlement on it what so ever.
