Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
hmm replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
Its over 9000 (pages)!!! (If you dont get it brush up on your DBZ) I had no idea that so much work went into this project. I've only had to write code once for a final project for urban design involving Flash's Actionscript 3.0 and i't was the toughest thing ever. Yet I'm complaining when you've written a 1000 times more code than I ever had (I only wrote 500 lines and was crying). You tend to forget about what lies behind all the fancy textures and interchanges. So as always, much respect for you Tarkus and the rest of your team!- 3,919 Replies

This cant be right. I used to have the USL. But I believe I deleted every trace of it. Might it be incompatible with something else?- 322 Replies

Before I mouth off my requests I will bow down and pay tribute to the mighty NAM gods who have kept this game alive for so long! Here's my humble request. Is It possible to get an Elevated rail over Road puzzle peice crossing over a ground highway or RHW? Or is three layer networks impossible? Heres A pic. This monstrosity of infrastructure is located at the base of the Triboro bridge approach on the Queens side. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GCP_Astoria_Blvd_31st_St_BMT_jeh.JPG (Cant get the thing to show up on the site keep getting red "X"s just follow the link) Ignore the station, that could probably be done with overhanging models.

Wow, this CJ is done right, Viewing it is like watching the opening credits of The Wire. You got the whole feel of deindustrialzation right, keep up the good work! One question, where'd you get those curved traffic signals from, they look really good!

Chemeketa: Rankine-Dallas Corridor, Part 2
hmm commented on Tarkus's City Journal Entry in Tarkusian Cities
I'm liking your procedural approach to your journal, Its almost like getting updates from a real planning or transportation agency. Keep it up! -
Wow Tarkus, this is absoulutly mind blowing work! Double Decker highways... theres no need to say more. Much respect for you and all the modders out on the net, you create things that I dont even know that I need untill I see it. Keep the game alive and going strong for another 8 years!

Oh this looks just awesome! I wouldnt worry about the laptop being old having an effect on Gmax. If its anything similar to 3dstudio it only starts to slow down then your poly count gets too high or once you start doing crazy lighting and motion animations. Plus your just working on a hollow shell of a building with no interior elements so I wouldnt be too worried. When I'm at work these architects force me to model the interiors and exteriors of a building so they can show off fancy sections and perspective shots on my poor HP pavilion dv8000, the poly counts gets rediculous man! Man, If it werent for legal and privacy issues I would let you have some of the models I'm working on so that you can have the most up to date budings in the NYC metro. Especialy in the South Bronx, we have so many Building permits open now. But i got a feeling my boss would just laugh at me and tell me to get back to work! Glad to see that you are modeling now, this is gonna add a whole new dimension of realism to an already life-like CJ, keep up the good work!

Man work and school's been keeping me away from the site in general but I'm liking the last couple of updates man. Never actually tried the Lot Editor, now im starting to see why your CJ looks so real. Like the way you composotied those buildings to make the X shaped Co-Op towers amoung other things. Also never realised how large your region map is either... Its friggin huge and your still making it realistic down to the lowest zoom level! I'm not even mad that my corner of southeastern Queens/ Long Island (near JFK international) is cut off; you got enouth to worry about. Long Island is just too long anyway! Lastly, I just wondering but have you started to map out the various transit networks? You know like Commuter rail lines, the subway system, and the expressway/parkway network or are you just focusing on getting the street layout and various landmarks situated right first? Anyways keep up the good work Mr. 7!

I think I stated this somewhere before but I usualy style m towns off of the cities in the Northeastern U.S. (NYC, D.C., Boston, etc) probably because I live there and I've never traveled to far from that corridor to know what other cities look like. So far I base my cities, region and towns off of various places in the New York Metro and its been working very well for me. My central core is based off of manhanttan, very griddy and has the largest share of commercial office space. My sububs are connected via passenger rail and congested expressways like here in Long Island. I base my Industrail areas off of Jersey, and my inner city residential off of Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. I like creating a density gradient as I move out, starding with large tenements and gradualy downsizing to brownstones rowhomes and singlefamily houses as i get closer to my beltway. the street grid becomes looser as I move away from the core as well. All my independant suburban towns are connected by rail, sorta like the LIRR and Metro North, with a suburban nucleus with mid desnsity development around the station and I usally surround it with endless sprawl. I recently began experimenting with belways and radial highways that dosent create endless loops and reverse commuters as well. Its a pain, especially when trying to make it look realistic but I think its working!

Are there any splitters for the NWM mod in the works? maybe something like... MAVE-6 to two OWR-3's OWR-5 to an OWR-2 and 3 (make two models, one will be the inverse of the other) OWR-4 to two OWR-2's MAVE-4 to two OWR-2's Maybe some slip-lanes and turnining lane markings for the expanded OWR newtorks. That way you can make some really good looking suburban highways, the type thats almost a freeway, but it has traffic-lights and very few curb cuts for stores and large buinesses. Also a sharp 3-tile 90 degree curve for the MIS. I saw the one for the regular RHW-2 and it only made me want more! And I'm not just ranting. I am willing to work for these puzzle peices. I have plenty of experience with photoshop and illustrator and with my last job 3dstudioMax (i'm not sure what this game uses for its 3d files). If you need a texture/graphic design guy i'm there. Just shoot me a message.

Originally posted by: TheNachoFan As I resumed playing the game after a good year off, I try out new things like the Road Widening Mod, namely to get rid of a traffic problem in an old way, a one-way loop (I'm not doing a great, classic job at designing with this new city), but in a new fashion, a three-lane, one-way road. And... for whatever reason, it seems the simulator couldn't get any vehcle to drive on that OWR-3, as only pedestrians used it! Once again the question: is this normal? quote> Im having the same problem as well but with the transition peices for the OWR-3 and ARD-3. All vehicle types will drive onto these sections of network through standard intersections, maxis and NAM. However I cant get peolple to drive through the transition peices. If the stretch of road was an OWR-2 and was upgraded traffic steadily drops to zero and it remained at zero for around 5 in game years. I checked to make sure it was the right hand side version (U.S. file) and it was and I reinstalled twice. Gonna reinstall again because i cant live without this mod!
