csl patch Patch 1.2.2-f2 released, building & zone limits raised!
QuantumChicken replied to boformer's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Let's hope that limit upping will not get maxxed to quickly. -
I'd make darned sure you have set all updates, even emergency ones, to manual with notification. Alrighty, I am already doing that, but thanks for the heads-up.

Buildings, roads & population limits - time to lift?
QuantumChicken replied to ReneXL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Yes! That is the correct term, not rich. My compa could handle the stress of an increased limits also now since source engine (Team Fortress 2 with the weapon RoF @100%) taxes my system even more than C:SL at the given time. EDIT: I wonder if C:SL will support 64GB FB-DIMM in 8-channel mode, or if it will only read it as quad-channel... -
Buildings, roads & population limits - time to lift?
QuantumChicken replied to ReneXL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Calling people "rich, greedy, kids" is not a very nice thing to do and is very judge-mental. I am personally happy with my computer and I do agree, there is an issue with C:SL and its' limits. I have hit a couple already (traffic and roads) and I think CO needs to address the issue. As Klyte45 says, there needs to be a mode for metropolis for the more powerful computers. Cities XL/XXL is also Unity engine, or at least a fork of it and look how much can be done there? So this limit nonsense is questionable to me and many others. What CO is stating about "Supercomputers" is invalid because a supercomputer is not available to the residential market nor is the power grid for one. Take Titan-1 for example, how CO says it is that there are people who possess a computer like that is totally invalid. "Megacomputer" seems more appropriate for the term, but not "supercomputer". I guess the devs have never seen or heard of North American corporate computers. Sorry if this sounds like a rant. I just don't like the limits I have hit and with traffic management perfection, my computer just laughs at the game now. -
Buildings, roads & population limits - time to lift?
QuantumChicken replied to ReneXL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
The good news for me is I fixed a traffic issue and now my compa is running nicely. I ordered up 2 new CPUs (Dual quad-cores) for my new mobo, and then I should be able to hit the limits. At that point I will have a reason to whine about it, but until then, there is no need to. What is weird, I can run Cities XXL much, much better than this game on my compa, and I play both games at 1440p with all graphics cranked up to the max. -

Alrighty, one more comment from me. The reason why my compa gets angry at 5 tiles is because it is a 2006 Xeon computer I picked up for ~$200. My good compa died when I tried to install windows ten, so I am stuck with this non-gaming-capable machine for the mean time until I can afford a Core i7 6core (I use it also for heavy workloads as in BOINC, not just games). -
If all my games/apps were supported on Linux, I would migrate in a heartbeat. I have over a thousand apps though, and I use allot of MIDI and looped-ogg vorbis.

Buildings, roads & population limits - time to lift?
QuantumChicken replied to ReneXL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I plan to go back to SimCity 4 anyways, so there will be no more discussion from me on this topic. My current computer cannot handle C:SL after 5 tiles and yea, even if I do hit this limit, my game would be causing my compa to scream in agony. -
Hi, I do not know if this has been asked before or not or if there is a tutorial on this, but is it possible to convert an SC4Lot/SC4Desc from one zone to another or a landmark to a zone? Thanks.
-
Trying to convert a landmark into a residential lot. If creating a new lot is more practical, then I will just do that then. Thanks for the info.

Buildings, roads & population limits - time to lift?
QuantumChicken replied to ReneXL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I am using a Limit mod for the game to help me understand the limits more. Very helpful. Besides, as much as I like this "Metropolis Mode" idea, it would not work for me as I have a dual core2 quad (Xeon E5450) system and it is brought to its' knees within 5 tiles, much less 9. May as well work with the limits and appreciate it instead of being grouchy over it. So yea, like that idea, but I am truly happy with what I have as it is. -

I personally like the "Metropolis Mode" idea. Even though my computer drops to 1-2 FPS on half full of 9-tiles (Core 2 generation), I would love to see such a DLC feature introduced. -

My Windows PC is suffering right now because it is not a good gamer (PCI-E 8x v1.1) and I cannot afford an i7 setup. All of my gamers have been used parts from servers and workstations to fulfill my needs. There is NO WAY I could handle a limit increase with this configuration. An option would be nice, I agree, but that requires an insane amount of extra programming just to fulfill those few with "supercomputers". EDIT: I am updating something here, and that something is: I care not about my weak windows PC anymore, the limits DO need to be raised! -

csl patch Cities: Skylines "After Dark" Expansion Discussion
QuantumChicken replied to Mr_Maison's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I finally got back to playing C:SL, and wow, the free update with day/night is just awesome! Unfortunately it is crashy due to me using a datacentre server as my gamer because my gamer mobo (ASUS) died after windows 10 tried to install on it.- 70 Replies

Yeah, I just found it. An article on Kotaku said the same thing but that the Maxis brand will carry on but that the "Maxis" people knew is no more. Who knows, maybe another company will buy the rights to Sim City and revive it (wishful thinking). I doubt it but there is always hope. Otherwise ill just continue to enjoy Sim City 4 with awesome sauce mods. I also have wishful thinking about SimCity's future.
-
Maxis Emeryville studio was pretty much the main studio and the heart of SimCity.
-
I agree there, SimCity 4 is a beast of a game and I love it more than C:SL in many ways.
-
With the closure of Maxis, I have very high doubts that we will ever see another SimCity.

important Microsoft releases update, blocks SC4 from starting
QuantumChicken commented on Cyclone Boom's article in News
Here is another suggestion. If disabling the security is too dis-comforting, Get an alternate computer, set-up UntangleOS (Debian), which is free, then configure it as a gateway. I have been using it for years and have not the need for a firewall or ANY anti-malware software on any of my computers. It nukes viruses, malware, and hackers at the gateway before it even gets onto the user's computer. (http://www.untangle.com/). This is for those who can afford an alternate machine. -
I cannot believe Micro$uck would pull off such a tactic like that, but hey, they are a monopoly, so they can do whatever they want...

Typical of Micro$uck to do such stupid things like this. At least there is a workaround provided, but still... -
Looks like the Crown has been passed....
QuantumChicken replied to chocolate_city's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Yes, I agree, it was not fair, but I am oblivious to many things, that was one of them. Anyhow, I am going to delete/unsubscribe from all them assets and start anew. Right now a friend of mine got me playing Final Fantasy XIV, so it will be awhile before there is any news about the 0/0 issue. -

QuantumChicken replied to chocolate_city's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I helped a guy fix the 0/0 issue. It was just a asset/mod issue. Normally most all issues are mod/asset related. That's why devs can't replicate them. Anyway, here's the link to the thread if you wish to investigate your city further. https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/population-issues.851604/ The weird thing is: a friend of mine uses the same mods/assets I do and he has no such issue.
