It's been so very many years since then that when we went to Europe Bonjour was all I could manage! But I could listen to someone speak french for hours.

  9. Alternative Dirt Roads

Yes please make this available to us - I tried Trolca's mod (no offense Trolca) and it's not quite what I'm looking for particularly since PEG has given us some wonderful Mountain houses and is making some Ind/Com for mountain regions.

Date: 11/4/2005 9:36:43 PM Author: N_O_Body Page 60 Well, into each life a little rain must fall.  I agreed to be a mod, but I am only working on one list right now, and it isn't this one. I don't think we should celebrate.  Commisserations are maybe in order. Thanks everyone. quote> Well, my commiserations on not moderating this thread, but congrats for being named a moderator as it is a recognition of your contribution to the community. And yes, my screen name is for my dogs.....had to have something I could remember

Date: 11/3/2005 12:34:19 AM Author: N_O_Body @ Fred_Ginger:  Ah, yes, 10,000 pick up.  It was a great game wasn't it.  If that happened to us, we would have to run the whole works through an 083 sorter, then a sequence check.  Took all night. quote> We didn't have that luxury, had to manually sort them, got pretty quick at it though. Voar tak, I use to think I was computer savvy considering my experiences with them but as time has gone by I seem to become less and less literate and have become what my sister calls a techno-phobe (she's an archaeologist and runs the computer section for that dept at U of CA, Sacramento), I can't even seem to remember DOS commands - I guess when I retired and did a data dump I dumped everything! MsD your squirrel is darling - when I'm on the game computer I'm in the front of my house where I can look out the window and sometimes I'll just sit and watch the squirrels playing and chasing each other. You should hear the thump the make when they jump on the roof! It sounds like something is going to come crashing in! They will chase each other around in the back racing on the fences and driving the dogs nutso - well Ginger was the one that chased them the most - she didn't want anyone/thing in her yard! Fred is so blind with cataracts now that he can't see them.

Date: 11/1/2005 9:47:19 PM Author: N_O_Body @ Fred_Ginger:  Maybe you could pull it out of vid's back.  The autosystem seems to be feeling a little fey today.  From punched cards to micros.  That pretty much sums up the history.  I go a little further back to punched paper tape.  You know, the advantage of PPT is that you can't get it out of order by dropping it. quote> Don't get me started! we had these huge trays (card wide by four feet deep) and would occasionally have an accident with them - just thinking about it gives me a headache and I hadn't worked with them for (mumbles) years! *thinks a white wine* *goes over to a corner chair still mumbling and sits shaking head and wincing*

  17. The Moose Factory (virtual Bar & Grill)

The first computer program I ever wrote was on IBM punch cards (for a class I was taking) and I worked with punch cards (people would write warehouse (storage) locations on them, I would have to key punch the location and if correct (after run thru checker) feed the cards to a card reader. Our computers were in a huge old building and had tape reels. Later (and a more advanced job) we got machines that you could type a presentation on and it would print it on transparencies and what a day it was when we got our own computers! And then things like PowerPoint came along and we emailed our presentations - whoooeeee. I'm retired civil servant - worked for the US Air Force at McClellan AFB for 34 years -was what we called a Program Manager sort of a orchestra leader, trying to get the AF requirements lined up with the money and time, etc. (You want it to do what by when???? ) I wouldn't have retired at the time but didn't want to move either, so . . . Oh, happy birthday MsD

[shhhh, Deb, you'll date us both] I think I should buy you a drink. quote> Whoa, that would make you guys pretty old.  Then again, I know what you are talking about.  Does that make me old? quote> Yikes, I know what you're talking about too - use to work with 'em (do not fold, bend, spindle or mutilate) oh, how I loved folding bending . . . . Oh, by the way, I'll never be old because I still play! FanG

  25. What I would like to see in SC5 .... 1) to be able to terraform a whole region at once rather than city by city 2) running rivers without having to gouge them out (like start somewhere in a mountain and run to the sea) remember being able to plop rivers and waterfalls? 3) someone else already said it, cities that don't depend on roads/streets so we can build alternate transportation cities (imagine using just Peg or someones canals for trans.) 4) more terrain conforming buildings so you don't get those huge ugly foundations 5) better control over tools (someone already said that too) oh, yeah and if going to be a grid than the #$%@^& tools should be square! 6) control over the sizes of the cities in a region (I really dislike the little ones after a while) - or different city requirements for small spaces - after all all cities don't need farms or industry they could be destination cities That's all I can think of right now but I've been thinking the same ones for a looooong time!
