  1. I always thought my abandonment of R$$$ was due to some wierd commute problem. I've got the nam with x2 capacity, x10 speeds and perfect pathfinding. I'll have 5 linked cities, each retaining all it's dirty, manufacturing and such as it went up in eduction (so essentially they about double the needed jobs). Yet even with all my job demands in the negative and all job taxes at about 2%, R$$$ has huge abandonment after a certain point. The jobs are there, the roads, rail, busses are green and well set up, but still, abandonment due to no jobs. Now, one change I've made is adjusting the speeds to be more realistic, which involved increasing pedestrian speed. I also made it so the traffic strategy of all wealth levels is the same as middle wealth. So they just mainly use the fasest. Could this potentially be causing my problem? The only time I DIDN'T have this huge abandonment problem was when I was playing a multi-player region that had most of the default settings and just the standard NAM settings. Perhaps I shoudl experiment...
  2. Less Abandonment

Making the game harder to get higher levels is a cheat?? Why do you even come on ST if changing the game in any way is 'cheating'. Damn simcity cheaters, they really ruin the multi-player aspect of simcity. Such a competative winner-take all game, can't have any CHEATING. uhg

If one has an obsessed crazy derranged viewpoint leading to an anoying ineffective internet crusade one could say this looks like a Penis and thus is smut and you should go to prison for life for corrupting children. WILL SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?! BLUH BLUH MORALS BLUH BLUH HEATHENS
  4. NIMBY Collection 1

Protest these buildings in your real town first, once you've made them illegal there, and in your state, and country, and world, THEN you can come and put some pressure here that we do the same.
  5. Bat patch doesnt work ;/

I've installed the patch twice and still I get no night-lighting. It's driving me crazy, I don't know what the problem is. Reading the patch log, it seems to not be updating anything due to the patch already being applied. I searched for thumbs.db but only found that file in directories for other programs, not simcity (and I doubt deleting civ4's file would help). Any ideas?
  6. If any part of the default train station is touching any part of the track (ie adjacent to) it will work. Same goes for freight. Side, angle, doesn't matter, just needs to touch the track some how. If you want to force your industry to use the freight network to take those inefficient trucks off your lovely streets, just download the freight blocking tools which I can't rememberthe link too, but I'm sure they're on the stex. Freight from industry can automatically go to a track without a freight station, but only if it's touching the track. Most industrial buildings won't be, and it's more efficient to build a single freight station in the middle of your industrial zone than try to conect every building with rail.
  7. Manhattan Heights

    Yes! More 5,000+ R$$ buildings!

  9. Adventures In New Urbanism --- A Journal

Other than the ridiculously imposible turbine thing (ha I see everyone else nit-picking it) a nice update. Such a shame it's the LAST update.
  10. Starchitect Discussion Thread

Who'd ever think making a building look totally un-structural and like it was falling apart would actually be bad engineering! Imposible to tell! Now, if you excuse me, i'm off to start mass-production of my new airliner that has artistic asymetrical wings and a square front, as it's a symbol of something quite artistic and abstract that only ignorant art-hating peons won't appreciate. It might not fly, but as we all know, form and artistic metaphor are much more important than the bloody thing actually being able to do its job.
  11. Adventures In New Urbanism --- A Journal

If this CJ isn't updated soon, I might be forced to go out and cut down a few hundred square km of forest and replace it with ugly ugly pastel houses with plastic chandelies and 3 car garrages. I'm warning you!
  12. 1000 de la Gauchetiere

  14. Welcome! My self and some friends have been tossing ideas around for an ideal turn based multiplayer simcity4 region and after compiling all the ideas together into one cohesive plan, I have come up the the new multiplayer region titled The Community. Riding in on the heels of Neptune Bay, I'm putting together a smaller more intimate and flexible region for people who want a little more freedom and a little faster play. Here is the map of the region, anyone interested please PM me, reply here, or contact me on MSN at baronjutter@hotmail.com The core focus of this region is on realism and team work. If that sounds interesting to you, and you have enough free time to do about 20-30 years a week to play, join in! We are looking for about 5-6 friendly players interested in not just building and submitting their cities at the end of the turn, but interacting with their fellow mayors in the region. And a huge thanks to Simvision for hosting the region, you know who you are! 1 2 3 miniklobb 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Baro 11 12 13 BarbulaM1 14 15 Cjah 16 17 Dutchdragon 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 MallowTheCloud 27 28 29 30 31 baco2005 A few people have asked how the game will work and what they'll need to do. Most of you have experiance playing like this, but I thought I'd post an easy tutorial for those who arn't sure how it all works. At the start of the game you will download 2 files, a region file that contains the map info, and a plugin file that contains all the plugins for the game. The region file will go into your mydocuments/simcity4/regions foler allowing you to load the region once you start the game, very straight forward. The potential tricky part is with the plugins folder. This folder is designed to totall replace your existing plugins folder(s). It must be in the correct directory and there must be NO other plugins other than the ones downloaded for the game or the game will not work correctly. Simcity4 atually has TWO plugins directories. One is located in mydocuments/simcity4/plugins and seems to be the most popular location to put downloaded plugins. Simcity4 also has a plugins directory where you installed it, which default would be program files/maxis/simcity4/plugins. It's important before you play to make sure you are only using ONE of these folders for your plugins. If you have plugins scattered on both, simply cut the contents of one directory and paste into the other, ensuring everything is in only one folder. Once you've made sure all your plugins are in the same plugins folder, re-name the folder. Call it something like 'myplugins' or 'backupplugins' or 'poop', what ever you want. Now that your personal plugins are backed up, just put The Community's plugin directory where the old one was. Now when you start simcity, it will only see The Community's plugins, not your own. It also means you can easilly play The Community, your personal game, and any other multiplayer regions simply by re-naming your plugin directories. Now that you have the region directory and the plugin directory, simply start simcity and play the map you own for 30 years. Once 30 years is reached, make sure to pause the game, then send me your city file. Your city file will be located insde the region folder you downloaded for the game in a big list of everyone's city, but only send me your own. That's it, you've done the turn! At the start of the next turn you will be asked to delete your old region file and download a new one, this new file will have the city you sent me, along with all the cities the other players sent me. Then you just play another 30 years, and repeat. It's extremely easy once you are familliar with where all the file directories are.
  15. The Community (News and Member Thread)

Hey guys! I've recieved a lot of your cities, but not all. Sorry for the delay, but was waiting for as many stragglers to catch up. I'll hopefully get the 2nd turn uploaded this evening and provide a link here.
  16. The Community (News and Member Thread)

Cities are due pretty much today, as I'm hoping to start turn 2 sometime on monday, unless people ask for a little more time. Please email them to me at baronjutter@shaw.ca
  17. I hate to say this, but I'd really prefer to keep the group as small as posible. The more people, the more organisation, posible problems, discrepancies.

I beg beg beg for these great farming walls to be added to the mod list, they'd be perfect for the patch work farms I'm working on. They give no park effect and and only reduce pollution about as much as an empty grass tile. https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=Lot&Str=dry%20stone%20walls Thanks! PS Fernsehturm has been built in St. Edgar Hills!
  19. UCS 2 - Neptune Bay - MultiPlayer Region

You forgot the most important point on your map! Also, thanks for showing me where Saturna island is. Sheesh, you can't blame me for not knowing ALL those little islands. Nice map by the way.
  20. European Car Replacement Mod

    YES!!! No more ugly SUV's!
  21. UCS2 - Neptune Bay - Members Thread

Awesome! St. Edgar is done and even though I gave up on my dream of reaching a half million people, the dream didn't give up on me and my city surprised me with a boom of giant condo's tipping my population up the 50,000 I needed to reach 500,000! Pretty much every single goal I set has been accomplished in this great city, jewel AND crown of neptune bay. And in perfect timing as I grow a little tired of pushing up sky scrapers and squeezing in population I can now divert some (obviously not all, as an abandoned city is a dead city) of my attention to building a lovely blended farming community to my north. Looking forward to turn 2 and maybe some new plugins! I can't think of any to recomend that wouldn't be pretty big mods. I'd love some of those european plaza's, I didn't build a single default plaza in my city since I hate the palms and california look. Obviously farming stuff is welcome since that's what I'll be building!

Game Launch! After following the instructions in the first post on how to download and instal the regions and plugins, simply start playing (on hard) the city tile that you have reserved for you. It would be helpfull if you would add a little (XX) after your city name that corresponds to your tile, eg Barotown (11) and use your ST name as your mayor name, so we know who is who. region and plugins! 23. UCS2 - Neptune Bay - Members Thread

I'm sure just about any empty space would do, although check with the host first. Some people are expanding next turn, so try not to pick a tile that would box anyone in or limit their growth. The cities are numbered left to right, top to bottom, and don't seem to count non-land squares. It can be a bit confusing if you don't have referance cities around, but I'm sure TJD (the host) will tell you which number your city is.
