  1. This is just too nice, I have no words...
  2. Bosmonde

Hi everyone! I would like to show you my first big city playing Cities skylines after dark: Bosmonde. This city is based on a map of Boston. I am planning to post regular screenshots, and tell you more about the city as this journal grows. For now, enjoy the first picture: 001 Off course, any tips and suggestions are very welcome as I am quite new here. Comments are always appreciated Edit: added 2 aerial (night) images of Bosmonde, including the spots where the images were shot for you convenience. . Edit: Added a new map, thanks to Cimtographer! Cheers!

Hello everyone! Today I have a double update. First of all, I would like to show you more about the suburban areas of Bosmonde. Like many larger cities, Bosmonde has tremendous area's filled up with patchworks of family houses, parks and recreational area's, urban services and so on. But because Bosmonde also has this ambition to grow to an even bigger city, it is intensifying within it's urban borders, before annexing neighboring smaller cities. On this particular outskirt you can see one of the tactics used. As you can see, the density for housing (and also shopping) is mixed between low and high density. The bigger roads, the avenues connecting various neighborhoods, making the long stretches troughout the city, have an higher density, while the area's behind these roads are zoned in a lower density. Parks and public functions are spread through the whole area, not creating one big neighborhood center, but various smaller ones. 026 On this next image you can see how this mix between low and high density plays out. This way, the city of Bosmonde can offer various types of housing to various types of households, with various types of financial means within one neighborhood, thus trying to keep mixed neighborhoods. Because this specific area is next to interstate highway, a green buffer was created. It is mostly for walking and small games only, the parks with a 'program', such as sports or specific picknick or bbq fields can be found in the neighborhoods itself. Also notice the few pedestrian bridge on the left side of the image, creating connections between separated neighborhoods. 027 Now, I would like to take you to a piece of Bosmonde's heritage, one of it's former estates, Napoleon estate. Now I can see you thinking, where is it? what is this for? Well, you are looking at the beginning of the drive towards the Napoleon estate. It is quite a long one. 028 Here it is. As you can see, much of it's land has been sold off, like the Duke's estate earlier in this City Journal, but the crown jewels are still there, The land that was sold off has been developed into a well-off residential area. The drive towards the estate is still intact, and so are a few of it's gardens. 029 And most importantly, the estate still has it's view over the lake, and in the far distance, the city of Bosmonde, from the left wing of the building. 030 Why was this estate called after Napoleon, a French ruler of the 18th century? Maybe you noticed the similarities of the estate with the royal palace in Amsterdam. This original building, which (in real life) wasn't an estate or a palace, but was originally built as the city hall of Amsterdam during it's golden century. At that time, it was the largest building in the world. But when France (Napoleon) invaded the Netherlands, he changed the purpose of the building into his own private palace. After the French invaders left again, the Dutch were free, but the original function of the building was never restored, as it is property of the royal family now, who uses this building nowadays to host formal events and welcome foreign guests. 031 Thanks for stopping by, and as always, comments are appreciated! FYI: The map on the first page has been edited to show the position of the latest images.
  4. Nice CJ, very inspirational! I am happy to read the error was fixed, had a similar problem as well. I am looking forward to see more, develop towards downtown. From what I know it has an interesting character.
  5. Bosmonde

I am glad you're all so optimistic It kept me trying a few more times, and I finally got it working again. It still randomly crashes at startup, even when going back to original mods used, but I did manage to get in again to try cimtographer's mapmaker. Lovely! I'll add it for your enjoyment, hope you're able to view it in full. As you can see, I covered mosty around the old harbour, meatpackers district and forest park, along with pearl square. East of the city docks, and south from Groningen Park is still quite unknown. I hope to show you more in this brand new year.
  6. Bosmonde

I hope you all liked the last update, since it will be the last. For some reason, the game crashes upon opening and I have no idea on how to fix it. I am trying other savegames at the moment, but for now it looks like all of them crash. $%&^!, I am so angry now I'd ask my money back, but I think the problem is caused by one of the mods I had added recently.

Hi everyone! Great to see some people still come by now and then to see Bosmonde. First I will respond to the comments, after that a little update, just for new year´s eve (still 5 hours away here). The map I have posted is the same as before, but then with a little mask on it, to make the numbers a bit more visible. If you click on it, it should give an option down left, to make it full screen. It looks fine here, so I hope it works as well at yours. I am thinking about using the mod Cimtographer has made for us to make a better visible, better looking map. For now, I made a few nice looking images of Bosmonde, including 2 of the cities bigger monuments. The first one is an enlargement of an atom, built for the world expo to celebrate universal science, the belief in technological progress, and to show determination for a better future. I didn't make this up, the original one in Brussels was built with this idea 024 The second one is a hyperbolic cosinus, built for less ideological purposes, but to attract residents to the other side of the big black lake of Bosmonde. In some way, it is a symbol for the suburbs. In origin, medieval times, the city was the safe place where one could have a job, study, where the the city was governed, etc, etc... Outside the city (walls) there was no law, there were the more simpler jobs such as farming, mining, etc. In some way, in Bosmonde, across the lake was where the poor people lived and which was an unsafe place. Since then, the role between city and countryside has changed drastically, with industrialisation and such, and by now we are as far that 'outside' the city has levelled up towards at least as promising as the city itself. I think, this cosinus symbolizes the gap that has been closed. 025 Notice how in both images the infrastructure plays an important role in the image. Both technological progress and suburbanization were fuelled by good infrastructure... I hope you all have a splendid 2016!
  8. Kommun, Northern Europe (Third update)

Beautifull pictures, amazing attention to detail! Keep them coming!
  9. The City of Rockhill

This looks lovely, I can easily imagine this city to be existing. How do you make your farms?
  10. Great CJ! Why haven't I seen this before? Also great to see some fellow urban planners around here. Keep up the nice work on Seattle!
  11. Wow, great update! I like it a lot! I had no idea you could actually enter the railway station! I think I have it in one of my cities, I should go check haha Anyway, great attention to detail, I love to see more!
  12. City of Westpark

    Good luck on the finals!
  13. Bosmonde

Hi everyone! Thanks for the kind replies so far! I have looked up the map from Baltimore, and I must say, in landscape terms they do share some resemblance, quite remarkable! Thanks for the compliments! It took a while to get the right colors, with some help from the kind people here. To find the right focus is still quite difficult sometimes, to really make the picture show what I want to show. I am happy you noticed the effort Thank you! It is going slower and slower by the day, allthough there is still a fair demand for houses, services etc. I'll crunch some numbers later if you're interested. For now I enhanced the previous showed map to list where all of the pictures were taken. I hope it's visible to everyone, as simtropolis automatically makes images like these smaller. Edit: allright, it's a bit small on the screen, but if correct, you should be able to enlarge it and see all the numbers. I'll add the images both to the opening post. Edit: new map available, thanks to Cimtographer!
  14. Bosmonde

Hi everyone! For this update I prepared an aerial, top down view of the whole city of Bosmonde. As you can see, it has grown a lot. Absolutely vital for the city are it's many bridges, for cars as well for the trains to redistribute all the goods being produced in one of it's many industrial centers. If anyone's interested, I can make a second map pointing out where the previous pictures have been taken?
  15. Couldn't agree more, this all looks very promising, including the church picture in particular!
  16. Delvedene - Update 7 - New neighbours

I agree on Dedgren with the visibility, other than that, please take us trough the changes your towns have gone trough! Looking forward to them
  17. City of Westpark

Looks very promising, but I think you forgot to mention one government agency; the urban planning and design department. The start of the city looks well designed and planned with a clear idea of what the qualities of the city can be. Good work!
  18. Bosmonde

Some more eye-candy, in honour of the developpers who built this game and the support of the community... 022 This is one of the many entertainment districts from up close. For me it looks like a redlight district 023 Enjoy!
  19. The last picture really took me back to Spain... Torroella de Montgri to be exact, a little bit south of your location. A lot of similarities!
  20. Bosmonde

Hi everyone! For today, the images are all hosted on Simtropolis, so they should both be visible to everyone I really like the deepness of this image. In the front, you see a small piece of the old harbour, with the university (faculty of mobility and transport on the right. Halfway trough, there's a statue for all the lost fisherman at sea, and in the back we see the highrises of the central business district. 020 This is the old front of the harbour. As you can see, the docks are gone, and many of the buildings have been upgraded and redevelopped into housing and shops. The highway that used to connect the docks to the rest of the city have been downgraded to a tree-lined avenue. On the corner you can still see the church of our-lady-at-sea, which was built to protect anyone who sailed out at harbour. 021 Thanks for stopping by!
  21. Bosmonde

That's weird, I have no trouble seeing the image. Anyone else experiencing any difficulties?
  22. Bosmonde

Thanks all for the nice comments, I really do appreciate it! For now, here's the Ferris wheel I promised. It's origin's ly at the beginning of the 20th century, when a small merry go round was built in the Duke's garden. Allthough the palace of the Duke is gone, the orangerie, with views of the river, is still there. The original palace was situated right at the river, to provide fresh water for the duke. He owned a lot of land around it, which he lent to farmers and such, to gain a profit. As the duke went bankrupt, the land was divided, and much of it was urbanized in the 19th century. The remaining part was transformed into a park by an industrial filantropist. In order to improve profits to cover the expenses a bit, he first built the merry go round, but as soon as it went out of date causing profits to drop, he built a ferris wheel around the 1920's to improve profits again. As in the 80's, when the society changed from a industrial economy to a service economy, the park is now owned by the city, with the orangerie functioning as an art gallery. 019 Thanks for stopping by!
  23. Bosmonde

That's great if you can find it, thanks a dozen!
