  9. BAT Help - Lighting

Um...it depends. If the model you have was not created with nightlights, then you won't get any and there is no way of adding them to an SC4 model file. However, if it's a prop you are talking about, then there is a property in Plugin Mgr that allows you to turn the lighting on and off.
  10. Brutalist Architecture Discussion Thread!

@Slightlyslack: I can see your perspective, however I don't think there is anything wrong with churches moving with the times, indeed churches have been some of the most innovative and exciting Modernist buildings, Liverpool Catherdral being a prime example. However, I definitely do NOT agree with demolishing historic church buildings and replacing them with newer ones - Modernist churches should only be built in new housing developments or when there is demand for an extra church. I don't think new churches should be built in a historical 'pastiche' style unless they are replacing a church building which is beyond repair.
  11. NDEX Announcements and Updates

I will be resigning from NDEX as of today. It really has been an honour and a pleasure working with you guys...however it all seems to have died a bit recently and the time has come for me to move. Thanks for all your support guys and I really wish you all the best for the future - I'll certainly be downloading your buildings! However, I am definitely not leaving Simtropolis or hanging up my BATting shoes, as far as BAT projects go, it's 'business as usual' for me. I will be doing some independent work as well as some work with the BSC who have been very helpful in helping me to get my backlog of buildings onto the STEX.

  15. BAT Help - General BAT Problems

Um... Try this. Go to Customize | Preferences (in the top menu) and go to the Viewports tab. About halfway down on the right hamd side is 'Right Click Menu Over Selected Only'. It works for me and it is unticked so I suggest making sure yours is unticked. Gary
  16. Tonksies BAT Thread NDEX

OK. Well you are certainly right that Real Life takes priority over ST and I'm sure we all wish you the best of success in your studies and future career and if you can do a bit of BATting now and then of course it would be great, but if not then you have left a great legacy of superb buildings here and you will of course be missed. Good luck and I hope you get the girl you have your eyes on! Gary (your Solent Arch-Rival!)
  17. TEXTURES: Official Thread

Ah yes, exactly what I was looking for! That's superb thanks! I'll let you know what they look like in use when I get home from work! Oh, one more small request, the bottom left one is great but a slightly richer yellow variation would be great -as well like the bricks in the Neo-Roman building at the centre of the photo below - but keep the original as I have a use for that too (well, I can use all of these or I wouldn't have asked for them!). I particularly like the middle-left dark brown one, ideal for my 60s buildings! Thanks, Gary
  18. TEXTURES: Official Thread

Hey, any news on my seamless brick textures?

  20. Bixels HK Projects and Progress

Wow, this looks really good Bixel!
  21. Supercomputer renderer at your service

Yes, another way to do it that I use is File | Archive...this automatically creates a ZIP file containing the GMAX file, all the textures and a texture index so it's ready to render. The renderer can then just open it up and get going! Another thing to be sure of when sending files for rendering (and I have been guilty of this!) is to remember to unhide or unfreeze any parts of the model that were hidden/frozen to make modelling easier. If they're frozen, the textures won't show and if they're hidden, they won't render at all!
  22. Brutalist Architecture Discussion Thread!

Yes, The Tricorn, one of my favourite buildings ever. All that's left of it is a bridge over a road. It was one of the best examples of Brutalist architecture in the UK and it was extremely unique. I have acquired some plans and elevation drawings of it so I am going to attempt to BAT it at some point but it's a pretty big megastructure! Anyway, I was in London yesterday, I didn't get many photos as the batteries in my camera were knackered but here are some interesting Brutalist structures I saw: This is a Brutalist church opposite the Science Museum in Kensington. I think this is the Ismali Institute but it's near the Natural History Museum: I don't know what this building is but close up, it's a real monster! I passed by it on my way to Borough High Street from London Bridge tube station.
  23. Googie architecture

Wow, it's good to see this thread up and running again!!! Yes, I've heard of that Little Chef restaurant but never had the pleasure of seeing it. I hope they don't demolish it, I know it was theatened at one point. Another UK building that could vaguely be considered as Googie is Clarence Pier in Southsea: Apart from that, Gerry Anderson's 1960s TV shows such as Thunderbirds and Stingray are a hige source of Googie inspiration, these were set in the future but all the buildings have a very futuristic 60s style, I love it.
  24. Yes, it's a shame it's still not open, it was supposed to be ready for the millennium!!! Still, they should soon have the lifts fixed I would have thought. I bet the view from there is fantastic...although you will no longer be able to see one of Portsmouth's most infamous, interesting and culturally significant landmarks from the top as the council demolished it (TYhe Tricorn). However, I am working on BATting it.
  25. BAT Help - Lighting

Date: 9/10/2005 6:01:56 PM Author: tchntm43 I am having a lot of difficulty getting my omni lights to show through windows. I have the building interior divided into rooms, with walls and floors that lights should be able to illuminate (and thus be seen through the windows). What is an appropriate brightness modifier? I have it set at 2 right now.quote> Some tips: 1. Make sure that the floor and wall surfaces that your lighrs will be illuminating have a fairly light texture. If you were to try and light up a totally black texture for example, you would have a lot of difficulty! Remember that lights only illuminate the surfaces they fall on. 2. I would turn the brightness multiplier up much higher, 8 is not an umcommon setting for me, it depends on how bright you want the lights though. Experimentation is the key. Don't set it too high as it can sometimes lead to lighting 'leaks' which are a real pain.
