What frustrates you about sim city 4
Ganaram Inukshuk replied to Pasta-power's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Have you tried a water treatment plant, whether it's the in-game plant or a downloaded one? Or even just the Data View for water pollution? And just for the record, the largest of the city tiles are only 4x4 km. -
At least you're practising, which is essential to making great interchanges. The lack of curves in some areas makes it rather messy, but it's still a good job for a first-timer. As of that Sinkhole to China Bug, I can contact the NAM Team about that to see what's up. However, I know a workaround: Use flattened terrain, and if that doesn't work, transition the RHW-4 to One-Way Road, then transition that to MIS.

What frustrates you about sim city 4
Ganaram Inukshuk replied to Pasta-power's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Every tutorial will tell you to demolish the entire starter. To me, that's ill-advised. I only destroy one tile of the starter. When doing so, you'll find the true starter, which, in the case of RHW, is a diagonal-ish segment of Road. (Several other starters will show OWR or Rail.) I always keep these kinds of segments. ------ I guess the only problem I personally have with SC4 is the disappointing lack of realism. That's why mods such as RHW were created. JS and CRV, I would have to disqualify your posts; That's a complaint about a mod, not the game itself. -
4196. Four thousand one hundred ninety-six. I can't think of anything special about that number, other than the fact that's it's an even number. We just finished painting a crate a few hours ago... We're gonna use it to store our recycling. Still gotta paint the inside, and the bottom, though...

Consider this: You plant bird seed, and it ends up growing a bird.

It's actually a nicely-designed cloverleaf, especially with the tower lights. Good job.

Quick question: Did you update Simcity 4 from the simcity website? The in-game diamond interchanges won't function properly without it. http://simcity.ea.com/update/index_update.php
-
The default diamond interchange has a simpler set of paths, so it's easier to navigate. A bit of practice wouldn't hurt on the setup I showed you. I would also recommend using the DrawPaths cheat, that is if you already have this: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/21118-extra-cheats-plugin-from-maxis/ It's to see where you're going.

Ryan (Haljackey) used the Avenue Diamond Interchange that came with the game. You used a diamond interchange that was built out of NAM puzzle pieces, and the ones involving one-way road intersections can get a bit funky... If you look carefully at the paths, you'll see that they connect to both sides of the road. You held down the left button too early, which made you turn onto the wrong side of the Avenue. You have to time it right so you turn on the RIGHT side of the road (And yeah, I meant that literally and figuratively). Hope it helps.

Granted, but that same 18-wheeler crashed into your house now. I wish I could figure out how to design a nine-level interchange that interchanges 6-8 different highways and their respect frontage roads, up to 20 different arterial roads, and where the main highway, consisting of a supersized collector-express system, swells from 30 lanes to about 50 lanes. :boggle:

What Does Your Username/Avatar Mean?
Ganaram Inukshuk replied to jacksunny's topic in General Off-Topic
I went with Ganaram DI because, at the time, I wanted variety in my usernames. I originally didn't want to use "G-DO-29--Anagram" as my account name for everything... But now I do ("G-DO-29--Anagram" for deviantART, and the hyphenless "GDO29Anagram" for SC4D and YouTube), and I can't do much about "Ganaram DI". Luckily, the two names are still connected; Move just one letter in "Anagram" and you get "Ganaram"; Plus, as long as my avatar is more or less the same for all my accounts (dA, YT, SC4D, ST), it shouldn't be too hard to find out that it's all the same person. The DI in "Ganaram DI" comes from the full name of Ganaram: Ganaram D. Inukshuk, which is a sort of pen name that I developed over the years. (More details about THAT name can be found here https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1456.msg359234#msg359234 ) It's also written on my icon thingie. -
Jobs-Doubler not working?
Ganaram Inukshuk replied to mido1960's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I took the time to REALLY look at that plugin. It only affects the in-game buildings, just so you know. -

Traffic Restriction Lots for NWM By GDO29Anagram (Ganaram DI) I felt that such an accessory was needed, so, following in the footsteps of UrbanLegend, BigRedFish, and Blue Lightning, I have created a set of traffic control lots. This time, it's for the Network Widening Mod. This is a set of NWM Traffic Restriction Lots. There are 12 lots in total, 10 restrict freight trucks from using your NWM networks, and two allow for HOV roads out of AVE-2 and OWR-1. These lots appear in your Miscellaneous Transit menu. Just look for the no truck zots. Installation: - Simply drag or copy the folder named "Traffic Restriction Lots (GDO29Anagram - Ganaram DI)" into your SimCity 4 Plugins folder. Unisntallation: - Simply delete the folder named "Traffic Restriction Lots (GDO29Anagram - Ganaram DI)" from your SimCity 4 Plugins folder. Contents: - Two Models - 12 lots - Two prop exemplars - Two FSH files for the props - A DAT for the icon buttons - Several pictures of the TRLs, some for placement instructions Lots: - TRL TLA-3 NoTrucks - TRL AVE-2 NoTrucks - TRL ARD-3 NoTrucks - TRL OWR-1 NoTrucks - TRL OWR-3 NoTrucks - TRL TLA-5 NoTrucks - TRL OWR-4 NoTrucks - TRL OWR-5 NoTrucks - TRL MAVE-4 NoTrucks - TRL MAVE-6 NoTrucks - TRL AVE-2 HOV - TRL OWR-1 HOV Stats: - All lots are 1x1. - Plop cost: 10 - Bulldoze cost: 5 - Maintenance cost: 0 - No flammability - Capacities reflect that of the Z Ultra Traffic Simulator. Dependencies: - NAM 29 or later and the Network Widening Mod v1.1.1 or later - ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED - SimPeg Orientation Tool (SPOT) - Not required but highly recommended for proper placement of these lots. Please read the enclosed Readme for more information. Feel free to comment about any problems or any suggestions you might have. -
I wanna try out the SPAM, but then I have to retrofit the CAM.
-
Might as well show this one... It was an old attempt at recreating the Redlands Freeway Twentynine Palms Highway Interchagnge. And before you say, "This thing's terrible; You should use FlexFly and MIS WRCs", this was made using RHW Version 3, which was when I started using RHW. (Also, I edited the image to be this way.) I should redo it, don't you think...?

Is SimCity 4 Really a Game?
Ganaram Inukshuk replied to A Nonny Moose's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Simcity 4 is a sort of playground to experiment with the aspects of real-life, only you, the player, get to play god. It's a simulation game, but has a sort of essence of being what's called a "God Game", where you literally play god. And all those SC4 tools (EG Terraformer, BAT, Lot Editor) are just ways of expressing this power of creation. Unless you wanna create a city just so you can brutalise it. I've had this quote back on deviantART: "Everything in the world has a greater potential that is beyond their original intentions." I'll bet Maxis has never expected what we, as a SC4 community, have done to an entire game. I mean, we've literally rewritten how the game should be played. We can make our own buildings and mass-produce our own regions to create upon. We've changed the look of the entire landscape, and unlocked secrets that Maxis left behind that never made it into the game. We just don't want to follow the gameplay guides that Maxis has given us... We might as well teach THEM how to play their own game. What was once a simulation game has become a game of detective, god, city planning, and probably an extension of one's personality. People make their own cities and nations and compile stories out of them. We have rewritten the game in a way that doesn't mess with the .EXE, while at the same time, written stories of our personal progress. Also, you can connect your Sims 2 characters into the game, but who does that any more...? I don't, but that's another story... -
Introduce Yourself Here!
Ganaram Inukshuk replied to JohnnyBGoode's topic in New Members Information
I hope I'm doing this right... The topic is called "Introduce yourself here!" and I'll do just that... I'm called Ganaram DI, though I'm called GDO29Anagram or Ganaram on other sites. I've been playing/toying with/experimenting with Simcity 4 one and a half years now... Being a part of a community [Any community, whether it be deviantART or SC4Devotion] ain't new to me; In fact, I've been active on SC4Devotion for quite a bit, up to the point of become a NAM AssociateThe Network Addon Mod and all the various plugins (HSR, CAN-AM, NWM, etc), RTMT, Traffic Simulator Z, and pretty much everything else are now second-nature to me. I figured it's time to get this account up to speed... Some brief history of myself: I discovered SC4 about last year... (I was already part of a Happy Tree Friends community in deviantART at the time...) I found some videos on YouTube and found a few made by Haljackey and ErwinNegentig and others; They had this weird thing called the "Network Addon Mod." At first I didn't wanna get it since I needed to log in, but compelling desire made me do so... So more stuff came along for me (The plugins for the NAM, RTMT, and such...) What I like about this: The Rural Highway Mod (Which I understand was renamed to RealHighway...) Originally I didn't wanna use it because it was complicated to make interchanges that are compact enough... And with understanding of real-life measurements [of real-life highways compared to the Maxis highways] and how they compare in the game, now I'm just addicted to the RHW; It's my favorite aspect of the NAM's array of optional plugins. Plus, customizability of the highways. My top favorite of all the NAM plugins... Second on that list of favourites is the Network Widening Mod (It actually became the first on my list just recently): I know it's only the first version, but there's quite a bit of more potential for it still... Functionality-wise and aesthetic-wise... I like to edit textures... I began work on my own set of darker textures... For everything except for RHW, Maxis Highways, and other things such as rail and SAM (Except for intersections...). I hope to showcase some of the things I make with the RHW here (I believe this site also has an Interchange thread...) among other things.... Now when I said, "I was already part of a Happy Tree Friends community in deviantART," I mean I've experience of being in other online communities, including SC4Devotion. I've gotten used to how forums work now. The only reason I ever joined onto Simtropolis is to download custom content, including the NAM. Not even lurk in the forums... Actually I joined ST first BEFORE SC4D. So I'm pretty much a newbie to the ST community... I've a lot of things to learn... Problem is this: I learn too fast... Also note that many of my thoughts are expressed through illustrations and a lot of writings (Especially on deviantART, and also notable on SC4Devotion) . Many things I'll express may require an illustration. I know how to handle that... Problem is that I can't get a preview of what I post... Who knows where I'll go from here? So anyway... Yeah... - GDO29Anagram. And no, I'm not gonna disclose the exact location as to where I live... Just not yet... All I'm gonna say that it's rural, it's in the desert (Mojave Desert), and the name of the city has had a major influence on my SC4D, deviantART, and YouTube usernames of GDO29Anagram (It's actually "G-DO-29--Anagram" for deviantART.). One more note: When I created my ST account, I never thought of using the same exact name or any slight variation of "G-DO-29--Anagram" since I wanted to use completely different names,... So I used "Ganaram DI" instead... I kinda wish I didn't, but it's fine for me. As long as people from SC4D can identify that it IS me on the off chance that I ever DO upload something to the STEX...- 5,880 Replies
