I started a new building to practice getting the fundamentals down instead of trying to create the ultimate right away. I am creating a simple building and going to finish it all the way. I want to learn how to do nightlighting so that's what I am practicing on this building. The problem is I don't know how to do nightlighting and/or how to get light to shine through a window texture. If that is possible. Also sometimes I put the word night in front of the UMV map on the window and there is no night light. As you can see I have put up interior walls, I heard this helps for night lighting windows. Can anyone help me with this???? Thanks.

BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
thecarl3 replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I am a new BAT creator and I want to know how to post the rendering on the forums. If anyone can help me with this just tell me! Hahha I am going to show some of BAT's that I have done and hopefully someone can help me improve. I have much to learn with Gmax. I have plenty of ideas.....I just dont know how to create much detail using Gmax. All I have learned so far is pretty much boxes, I dont even know how to create say a house roof! So someone please help me--How do I get my building renderings on Gmax! I posted the pic on word but can't convert it so the computer sees it as a picture and not a text doc. Thx! -
BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
thecarl3 replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I am learning to create buildings using gmax but right now I cant figure out how to texture very well. I figured out how to draw a texture onto a shape and thats about it. I was following the BAT essentials tutorial which helped a ton but I can't understand the texture part. I am lost on how to do it wih a UVW map. Also I found a brick texture and placed it on my building but the bricks were huge!! Only about 5 showed on the building. They were bigger then the windows. How do I scale that down!! or what do I do?? Can't find any tutorial here or on the web really, can anyone help me!! -
BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

I really want to learn how to use the program Gmax so I can creats SC4 buildings and contribute to the site. Mainly because I have lots of good ideas but have no way to share them. I havent been able to find any tutorials to help me get started. Can anyone help me or direct me towards a good tutorial. I know nothing about this program, so just learning to create a simply box with mabye a window would be a start! Thanks! -

Well so far from the screenshots I think the game is already going in the wrong direction. All the ideas to create a great city building game are there from what I have read but from what I can see the game isnt looking so great. I think by creating everything in 3D the graphics will be more childish, so to say and unrealistic. I think what will happen is the game will turn out to look like, yes City Life, or Sim City Socities. (which is bad) I think the camera set up should be similiar to SC4 with varying zoom levels and rotation. This allows for more detail in the city. Mabye Monte Cristo will do an amazing job and prove me wrong. I hope Also to add, look at a real city and see how it looks. Even go on MSN maps and look at NYC from the birds eye view. They need to look at a real city and see what it looks like and make realistic features. SC4 was limited but so far the best city building game ever. If SC4 would have came out with so more expansion packs they would have sold more of those than Sim City Socities. Thats my thoughts.

NEW WEB SITE!!---City Thoughts, Pictures, and drawings
thecarl3 posted a topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Hey I have created a new website less than a few days old so its nothing yet, but with the help of enough people I hope to get it going. The site is devoted to Architecture, City ideas, pictures, and building design from houses to skyscrapers. (and simcity fans welcome of course) If you are an artist, architect, photographer, or doodler(haha) please come check the site out and show your work. This includes drawings, pictures, anything really! Just go to the blog and say hello, or join the site. So if you are a fan of this kind of stuff or have mad drawing skills please come to the website and show ur work. Also feel free to check out some pictures I took during my NYC visit. Only a few at the moment though. Go check it out here is the website www.drawcity.webs.com -

Simcity 4 has been a very popular game for many reasons I believe. One big reason besides the whole idea of building a city was because of the graphics in the game. Since there was only a certain distance you could zoom in and rotate the view it allowed for better graphics. If they make Cities Unlimited so that you can zoom all the way down to the street I am afraid it might turn out like Roller Coaster Tyucoon 3 or City Life. The graphics in these games are good but they are too smooth and child like looking. I think there should be zoom levels for Cities Unlimited so that the graphics stay sharp and realistic looking. If anyone agrees or disagrees i would like to hear what you have to say. Thanks.
