Cities: Skylines - Community Modding Requests
astondb9 replied to Cyclone Boom's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
I don't know if this irritates anyone but me, but I really dislike using the tram-in-road which came in the Snowfall DLC, so I avoid it wherever possible. Currently it has trams and road traffic using the same lane, with parked cars on the outside, so at a tram stop the cars have to just sit behind and wait, whilst the tram only road doesn't allow for development next to it. Would it be possible to separate the cars and trams, with either trams on the outside and cars on the inside or vice versa, whilst still being a single road? (as in not as wide as the tram road with 2 lanes in each direction) -
WCIF railway clutter/fillers? I'm redoing the area around this station but I don't know of any real stations in big cities with unused grass around them! Real railways would have piles of sand and ballast, trucks, railway parts, etc and also sidings and stuff to make it look more 'full'. Any ideas on what I can use?

I know a lot of people don't like cities built to cram in as many people as possible, but I've spent 2+ years filling (currently) 97 large city tiles, but it amazes me that every one ends up completely different despite that I almost always only use euro style Maxis buildings (and occasionally a few plops for diversity). So here is AstonVille (original huh). 97 cities allowing 48 million people (more people than there are in Canada) to live in cities with 3 times the population density of Hong Kong. My largest city Londoninium has a population of 1,051,355 people and.. it's hideous. Most of my cities have between 250k and 500k which allows for some more suburban areas and people not having to live overhanging motorways and factories. My version of 'surburban living': Prime apartments overlooking untouched natural grassland, with great connections to Downtown. Personally the best thing to do in SimCity is cram as many people as possible into a city, then try and fix/improve the problems that comes with it (mostly traffic but also open space, healthcare, education, poverty, etc) Hope you'll enjoy my journal as I show you some of my experiences with highly populated cities. No mods or cheats and few plopped buildings just natural growth.. (I think..)

Here are my attempts using the NWM transitions and the TuLEPs, it won't let me put the NWM transitions on the square next to the junction which doesn't help but they definitely do the trick and traffic handles them well visually. A: Annoying that I can't put a cosmetic piece next to the transition and yes, it does look very dangerous. But doesn't look bad. B: This would look really good if I could place the transition to the AVE road next to the intersection. C: Nice and simple but again would look better if I could move up the transition on the left so traffic was 'forced' to turn left in the left lane. Any tricks to improve them? They definitely do the trick but look a bit 'clumsy'. And thanks for pointing out you can click one-way onto road junctions to get turn lanes automatically, never knew you could do that... very useful thank you!

Problem is that the existing turn lanes are for roads/avenues and with traffic lights, I don't want either unfortunately, i'm trying to keep traffic moving rather than stop-start (not that it makes any difference I know) and not sure where I got 'NWR' from.. the keys aren't even close to each other on the keyboard so I can't say it was a typo. I live in the UK so it made sense to draw them in LHD, despite my game being RHD sorry! Sure they work for RHD too though... I've been using the TuLEPs and the 2+1 NWM road they go together quite well for ending or crossing avenues but don't work so well for road/road or street crossings. That's why I just wanted to know if there was a cosmetic piece or something with right turn arrows (left for RHD) so traffic can wait outside the 'main' road.

Is anyone working on cosmetic pieces for the NWR networks? I'm trying to build a main road with turn-lanes for some of the busier streets as to not disrupt the main flow of traffic, but preferably I don't want traffic lights or a roundabout. At the moment i'm using the transitions to NWR (2+1 lane road) but there are no cosmetic pieces with right turn arrows etc. The poorly drawn picture shows what i'm aiming for (yes picture A looks extremely dangerous but i'm sure it exists). Any ideas how to do junctions like this? Also are cosmetic pieces hard to make? I'll have a go of it myself if its not too difficult! Thanks

Gameplay improvements UPDATED vid#3

Am I the only one who really dislikes having to demolish abandoned buildings one by one? Is that even my job? Shouldn't it be the developers who buy the land and build on it as soon as I demolish it? A demolish all abandoned buildings would be nice or a city hall add-on that does it for me.- 9 Replies

Does Anyone Ever Use Nuke Power?
astondb9 replied to Zpike's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I use it regularly in cities with high electricity demand... with or without a university. But usually by the time you can afford it I have a college. It warns you when the skill level falls so you can just close it down and import. Only ever had a 'partial' meltdown that seemed to pollute a small area.. wasn't a big deal just built wind turbines in its place. -
Basically I still use the original Maxis airports (feel like the only person who still does) but since getting the new NAM, the amount of traffic using the airport is very low and so even my largest cities can't reach the mark that allows you to upgrade to the Medium sized airport while before they could maximise to the largest airport (not international). Is there something in the NAM that uses airports and so they count as airport 'traffic' instead of using my airport? It doesn't really matter, it has no affect on my cities its just strange. I don't think I have any airport mods or anything like that because i've never needed them so not sure. Thanks in advance.

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

Any sign of proper roundabouts that i'm sure we were once promised? I don't count drawing a road in a circle and having traffic lights at each road on and off as a roundabout. -
UK Pre-order Offer on Origin!
astondb9 replied to RyanMorgan95's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Even with £40 'back' £64.99 for a PC game is stupidly high priced. Do you think the Origin price of the Deluxe Edition will ever go down? I really want those British, French and German tilesets. -
I don't see a problem with the finite resources, thats pretty realistic... (think of all the cities built on oil money desperately trying to diversify!) and it should be fine, as long as there are plenty of alternatives... like tourism/banking. And then you could still trade for them.

In almost every zoomed out picture Maxis has released it shows a sizeable gap between cities with no development. All they've shown you can do with this space is build big builds together like power stations and airports... but if transport is predetermined.. no suburbs or buildings up to the next 'city'? Just a massive green space inbetween? Is there anything to disprove this? If the cities are so small its just gonna end up a few skyscrapers in a field.
