Cities Skylines: Parklife
Rob86 replied to Giveaway412's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
it's the Paradox curse. There are always people defending them by saying CO is a small company or it is a niche product. Like you said, and as i said elsewhere, 5m for PC alone makes it top-25 of all time PC game sales. Some people also defend that Paradox needs to make money or has no money. They must have made 5x over their budget by now, and Paradox something like USD30m in profits annually or something- 63 Replies

Cities Skylines: Parklife

if they have actually 'answered' , we wouldn't be asking the same questions. Last time people asked why were updates and fixes slow, they replied they were on holiday.- 63 Replies

most people want word on a sequel rather than another half-baked DLC but the developers seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. (probably holidaying somewhere else again)- 63 Replies

Did 'Cities Skylines' Kind of Kill The City Builder Genre For a While?
Rob86 replied to calpolyfan's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
to put it in perspective, Cities Skyline has sold more than 5 million copies (not including console). It is not a hardcore niche title, even though at times we label ourselves as elitist gamers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PC_games now, if only one of the few gaming powerhouses would pick up this genre. as for CO, it feels as if they had ran off with the unexpected deluge of money -
What do you want in Cities: Skylines?
Rob86 replied to AidanA28's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
i just want CO to tell us of their development plan in plain simple straightforward English.- 307 Replies

Did 'Cities Skylines' Kind of Kill The City Builder Genre For a While?
Rob86 replied to calpolyfan's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
it is strange for so many people (not on this forum but elsewhere where the conversation is more raucous, to put it midly) to defend CO's deficiencies and relying on the defense that their team is small whenever questions on code fixes, and natural upgrades only do-able on sequels comes up AND yet Paradox has been earning dozens of millions of USD in after-tax profit annually. Too many buyers are just content, sometimes even reverential to CO, that there is a successor to SimCity 2013. having Paradox is a publisher is a double-edged sword. They did pick up an once forgotten genre after all, but it is Paradox with their half decade long sequel development targets, which by then all the talent would had left . And of course , Paradox being Paradox, is much more interested in milking the franchise for all the DLCs it can squeeze. even till now, SimCity 4 with cc looks and simulate better than C:S. -

More on EA/Maxis regarding the game always having to be online for the simulation to work properly.
Rob86 replied to Charizard's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
anyone tried to check how long do you need to be online to sync after going offline for 19 mins? imagine if it was only 30s ..lol -
when talking about EA, the pessimist is usually right.

the journalist is just a naive optimist.

EA very careful not to state the initial number of regions available for play.

a completely locked down micro + addon "enhanced" ala Sim3-esque game + a high potential of $$$ from impulsive buyers = Sims 4 + Simcity 5 = $$$ for shareholders

if you believed these dreams are too lofty to be realized, i believed you had misunderstood the design process. During the design process for the FIRST city management/building game from MC, their design team would already had suggested and thought of improvements over Rush Hour. A few iterations of building games from MC later, isn't it logical for them to predict what is expected of them? (especially if they want to compare their games to RH) Afterall, are IN the industry. I don't believe all these years of experience of making city games would still generate amateurish or lacklustre attempts. It's obvious the minimum the fan base wants would be a 3d version of RH. The only possibility is that perhaps MC had mismatched their own resources with their own goals.

Very disappointed over the non-existent Halloween event
Rob86 replied to Sainty's topic in Cities XXL
LOL. Even free-2-play Korean MMOs 6 years back have Halloween events. what does Korea has to do with Halloween? Absolutely nothing as well! Btw, Halloween's an excuse for fun. Any excuse for fun is a good excuse for celebration. Too bad it's not celebrated here. -

Does anyone remember how innovative, creative and mind blowing COD1 was, and how COD2/3/4/5 are basically the same old same old? Or does anyone remember DeusEx1 or No One Lives Forever 1/2? Or OFR1? Just because it sells doesn't mean it's good. (take Fallout 3 and Oblivion as an example)

Superantispyware finds trojan in game folder

Originally posted by: 0wn3d Originally posted by: MattShizzle Securom was a DRM that used internet connection and was /is certainly malware.quote> you dont get it... SecuROM doesn't require you to login each time. Requiring you to log in is the ONLY DRM a game needs if they choose to use it. Most games dont because they usually allow you to play w/o internet connection, but CXL does not. Internet connection is basically the ultimate DRM, look at steam. Steam is a form of DRM simply because you need to be logged into your account to play. quote> but it had been said you can play the game offline. So having DRM installed to cover offline play is something predictable. After all, MC is certainly not Stardock. -
Go on and search the web for FREE MMOs, and you will see that there is more of a multiplayer aspect to it than CXL. It is easy to see whether or not a game is an MMO or not. Plug out your internet cable and see if the game still offers about the same quality of play when offline. I'll bet there isn't much of a diff in CXL. Now, IMO, if CXL was to be a real MMO, it would at least enable simultaneous play of 1 city with 10 players(with each player at the same time playing their own cities with another 10 people), with each player in control of a a certain zone, utility, GEM(restaurant empire plugin, theme park plugin.......), transportation(rail & bus companies, airport & seaports.....) or any combination of controls in the game. AND enable cause and effect of that particular city on another neighboring one i.e micro-managing disaster response, pacifying Godzilla, sending rioters to cause a nuisance in your enemies city....or whatever the company can surprise us with. (it's sad when fans can come up with a more interesting premise than the experts themselves) Can MC do it? Sure they can. Get another EU10million loan and hire 5x more programmers.( which probably only stands at 2 at the current state of affairs)

Ok, I'm playing single player, no interest in planet offer... GIVE ME AN OFFLINE launcher
Rob86 replied to altumus's topic in Cities XXL
did someone say in game advertisements? Makes me wonder, just how much money would they charge for an option to remove them. And if a non-ford car skin will ever be approved by MC. -
That doesn't absolve the crime of a PC game company of making a product with no alternative to a paid multiplayer. (Cities XL is not an MMO by any longshot, unless they make a GTA addon which can support 100k players in one city at the time, with interesting party-centric missions plus an extra grand story arc) Even games like Counterstike and Left For Dead, which is more along the lines of what scale(not style) the multiplayer is like for XL, which requires multiplayer to be actually engaging, has options which enables players to play in a LAN configuration or on a private server. The only reason why Monte Cristo refuses to enable a limited privately hosted planet ( where no multiplayer aspects are actually dynamic and instantaneous. City visiting are limited, and doesn't it feel exactly like loading somebody's save file and looking around with options all locked out. And trading is no better than a excel program with a fancier interface. By 2009, we can expect a full spec video conferencing diplomacy and collaborative productivity suite. I know it can be done.) is because they are Grade AAA capitalists, albeit with a greater interest in short term profits. It is easy to predict Monte Cristo's modus operandi. It's obvious they are going to slowly release content and core elements which they most probably had finished but had selectively withheld for profits. As for the mention of bandwidth, if Monte Cristo enabled private servers, they can expect bandwidth costs to drop by 50% or more. Not to mention the bandwidth costs that would be saved if privately made custom content was allowed to be shared on fansites. The more support Monte Cristo gets for their current method of doing business, the more likely that we are going to see more instances of profit-grabbing from them in their next product iteration. (Btw, considering their expansion pack record, do you really think they will release an expansion pack which will radically enhance the way the game is played? Even EA had Nightlife and Vacations, and the next Adventures. Probably why they are so scared of custom content being freely distributed. Monte Crtisto seriously needs more talented programmers, not visual artists)
