Yau Ma Tei Currency Exchange Corporation BAT, LOT and the rest of it by Cockatoo-210893 Overview: The Yau Ma Tei Currency Exchange building is based on many different aspects of real life Hong Kong buildings but is not an actual re-creation. Its modern design mixed with low wealth (dirty) textures and overhanging Chinese street sings creates a Hong Kong atmosphere and when mixed with the Asian City Block pack it can look very realistic to HK backstreets. I called it the Yau Ma Tei Currency Exchange because most of the sings on the side of the buildings were made from photos of the Yau Ma Tei district of Kowloon, HK and the currency exchange part comes into it because Hong Kong has a currency exchange on every second corner so their gonna need a head office somewhere! In this download there are two versions included: • Growable CS$$ • Plopable Landmark (No jobs sorry) The stats are as follows: GROWABLE: Size: 4x4 Occupants: CS$$ 635 Zone Type: Medium Density Commercial Power Used: 30MWh per Month Water Used: 10 Gallons per Month Flammability: 40- Stage 4 Garbage Generated: Ten tons per Month Air Pollution: 46/ 5 Tiles (Lots of pollution because it’s HK!) Water Pollution: 30/ 6 Tiles Bulldoze Cost: §500 LANDMARK: Plop Cost: §110,000 Monthly Cost: §150 Landmark Effect: 40/ 20 cells Mayor Rating: 10/ 256 cells ---All other stats are the same as growable--- Dependencies: For this BAT to function correctly you are going to need a Pet Parrot. It has only been tested with a parrot present however you may try it without one entirely at your own risk! NOTE: This is a joke. Installation: Simply copy the HKBAT folder into the Plugins folder. If you have any problems with this BAT please send Cockatoo-210893 a private message at https://www.simtropolis.com/index.cfm. If you want to see more of my up-coming BAT projects and the making of this BAT, visit my Hong Kong BAT thread here. -

Sam's right guys, I've only seen about 2 CAM only lots on the STEX too. Out of 10,000 plus lots on the STEX, that's not a split- it's just a microscopic tare!

The airport looks good and the City Center even better, good job man!

For your first CJ it's actually not that bad. I'd suggest you get some custom water, tree, terrain and rock face mods to add to the realism of the national park area. Also always make sure you've got the pause off when you take pictures for your CJ, the yellow thing is really annoying (Or download this). Hope to see you do more.

Thanks for the replies guys!Again, not that much time to actually play SC4 lately because of my BATing but I found some time put together a little section of Hong Kong that I think resembles either the Yau Ma Tei or Sham Shui Po districts of Kowloon, HK. The BAT with the blue reflective glass windows is mine, it's called the Yau Ma Tei Currency Exchange Corporation (Because the signage on the side it made from photo's of the Yau Ma Tei district). I may release it onto the STEX later in the week but it is my complete BAT and I still have quite a low skill level so I'm not sure. Here at C0ckatoo's BAT thread we take your suggestions very seriously... T-Wrecks: Re-textured most of the base and made the roof boarder wall a lot thinner. Just a quick $%&^! question... what are 6459978-style' smudges? Never herd of them. Bixel: Wow, thanks a lot for the link to the texture download page! Really helped out a lot with the base textures. I've re-textured the wall with the stretched out texture and the funnel on the roof. And now all that's left to do is the night lighting. For some reason the some of the texture on the roof didn't come out but it's only lost on zoom 5 and 6 facing toward the entrance. After this I made another render and it corrected it's self, strange? How it looks in Hong Kong:
-
Woah! El Burro, that's so awesome! Look at those textures...*drool*... Just wanted to post an update here, done alot on it over the past few days.
-
Thanks for your support guys! Apart from some very small details that I want to add to the base roof and the pavement outside the main entrance, it's all done! Well all except the night lighting which I still need to learn and the lot... Like the roof junk and the extra sings? I think now it's got roof junk it resembles a Hong Kong style building alot better. I was never going to release this on the STEX at first, but I think I've surprised myself with this BAT. Should I release this? Yes or no? Anyways here are the progress pictures:
-
Added the base roof so all that's left to do on the modle is the roof junk and the rest of the texturing. In the mean time I've added more sinage! 7 Eleven, HSBC and the "Gloden Center" Alien_397: You're right about that. I'll try and fix that up but the main problem with that is I need a photo of a Hong Kong back street to make the texture from and most of the ones from Google Images are taken from street level. I'll look arround but for the mean time we might have to live with a 20m high red taxi reflection !
-
I've added more this morning. To give a proper Hong Kong feel I've tried to add some overhanging street sings. I'll get back to the Prince of Wales building soon, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can with this building before I go back to that one. EDIT: Oh yea, I forgot to add, I've givin this building a name- The Yau Ma Tei Currency Exchange Corporation. (Because the street sings are from photo's of the Yau Ma Tei district).
-
There's room for improvment, for example I'd like to see more parks and some really interesting BAT's but on the whole it's a good start. Rail and el-rail networks look great, I always like them!
-
I think I'll contribure something to this thread. El Burro... wow, that looks very nice! Can't wait to see that finished. Only been BATing for about a week so go easy It's a modern Hong Kong theamed building and I've added photo street reflections to my glass texture.

Wow Bixel, looks like you did a great job with my building... But seariously you've helped me out a lot! Thanks! But for the moment though, I'm working on the base for my fantasy HK tourism board building. Testing out some new geometry, not just all rectangles and boxes this time. CLICK FOR FULL IMAGE EDIT: AutoVino: Did you mean something like this? Reflections of a busy Hong Kong back street. Here it is on the building. What looks better, clouds or city street reflections?
-
kd5rx: Thanks for the advice man, I need it! I'm working on the geometry issue now just trying to learn ways of creating new and different shapes. As I said I've never done anything like 3D modeling before but I've had years working with photo editing programs so I guess that's what's helping with the textures.
-
Wow, I've learned so much in just a day... Here's an experiential building using my glass textures. (Not actually a Hong Kong real life building although the logo on the top is the Hong Kong tourism board, just wanted to add a logo.)
-
scotty222, That's fantastic! Soon enough we're gonna have ALL the buildings from the central district of Hong Kong if people keep BATing them!
-
Godzillaman: Yea, that's already done. Changed the roof texture yesterday. Damn, $4000! I guess that's in US dollars too... I think I'll stick to Gmax for now... Anyway, I made these window textures when I was experimenting with some PSP effects. Might use these in an upcoming BAT? Proud to say I made them from scratch too (Didn't use sketchup here either...)

Like this model you show here - it is made in Sketch-UP from Google. Practically all detailing is 2d - simply put textures... There isn't much model under it - it is just 2-3 simple boxes. That could be made in GMAX in a matter of 2 minutes. Generally models from Sketch-Up - particularly those made for Google Earth that you can download are not suitable for use in SC4. the only Value in them is that you can use them as skale/size reference no more then that. Reality if you want to do something it is better to really do it and not waste your time trying to find short-cut... What I would suggest is to make your own model from scratch using this downloaded as a reference. To get to the point where you are right now with this one you would need to create 4 boxes, convert them to editable mesh or editable poly, and move vertecies to get the size and proportions right. You can align your boxes to the model and use it as a guide. quote> Google sketch-Up? Don't waste your time trying to find shotrcuts? You sugest that I make my own model from scratch? You've really lost me here. I did make this entierly from scratch in Gmax. I don't even have this sketchup program that your talking about on my computer . I know it's a basic model that looks like it could have come out of sketchup but I made this from the ground up in the BAT (No other programs used). Except Paint Shop Pro for the textures. Yes, I'm totally new to 3D modeling and I've only made this with the experiance that I got from the first half of Phillipo's BAT tutorial (I need to finish that before I do any more on this building.)

Hey thanks Bixel, I'm gonna need all the help I can get if I wan't to get this up to the standard of all the other buildings in HK! Looking foward to next week! Godzillaman, thanks. I might upload it if I think it's good enough but no promises...
