Entry no.42 - Waterways of Baycole

This entry continues from where I left off last time at Aizen fall's. Here's a couple of wide pano shots to jog your memory in case you forgot where we were on this trip down the Scribosilyn river ;)

I spent a lot of time experimenting with mmps and creating different landscapes in the next area. I particularly like how these scenes look up close so as with the last entry the photo are from the closest two zooms. More of the area around the base of Aizen's fall. The first bridge crossing the Scribosilyn river at an angle is Vermont Drive.

Crossing Vermont Drive by foot is not recommended, unless your prepare to get soaked from the fall's mist.

The Scribosilyn river then meanders under a several bridges the first being the aforementioned Vermont Drive, followed by the twin span of highway 705. Hard to believe but there was a time when I didn't use mmp in developed areas at all. But now meshing together functional urban development with mmp covered area's is definitely one of my favorite thing to do.

On the north side of the river is a small city park(Jessibel Park).

Further south there are two final bridges. The first is the Energy East oil pipeline and the last bridge to span the river is a rail bridge, carrying the ICR Lakeridge Sub.

Three different modes of transit, road, rail & pipeline.

ICR Train # 303 is seen going over the bridge. This is a regularly scheduled high priority inter-model train which can sometime be almost a mile long, which is the maximum length of trains allowed to operate within the city limits of Pretoria.

After passing the last of these bridges the Scribosilyn river comes to end having reached Cisco Bay.

To the west of the river along the north shore of Cisco Bay is Varsity Park, another popular recreational area in Baycole.

The next entry will probably be the final entry from the city of Baycole and will feature the few unexplored areas of the city and plenty of large scale mosaics to show everything the city has to offer.

What an amazing level of detail here and I truly like how the beach to the sea transition turned out to be at picture 31.

I like the sense has someone walk in forest, I want to discover if it's true .

Thank you for designing, so amazing!:D

Wow. Your land to sea transitions are really something!! And of course I'm a sucker for those transitions between RCI lots and MMPs. Amazing work!

Those scenes look so realistic . You did one heck of a job on the stream to game water transition . And the MMP work is outstanding . Great job . :thumb:

Marvellous promenade ! Beautiful transitions, priceless shot with train & pipeline& road, MMPs galore... and that water, that water, that RFR water !!! (the only oooh-pity ! moments for me are the black line between the highway bridge and the highway (#8 and a few others) and the too green 1 tile transition between water and waterfall (#3) But the rest (and especially the mosaics) are just... aaaah....

@simmytu Thanks! It's awesome to hear that.

@Scribosilyn Thank you very much for the kind words and thanks again for the tutorials too. They served as a foundation for my own creations by giving me a much better idea of how to approach making these types scenes.

@ThuanLy I'm really glad you liked the design :golly:

@rathefalcon Thanks for the regards and I feel the exact same, working in those mmp areas next to RCI lots is one of my favorite things to do. Tbh I'm still not entirely sure how I pulled it off myself, lol. Guess I'll just chalk it up to a lot of time(tons of plopping!) and effort, that is randomly spacing different types of mmps and thoroughly blanketing an area by the end while subtly changing the composition of mmp's based on water depth.

@raynev1 Thanks the for the comment and for mentioning the water transition in particular. I tested out several different water, sand and beach texture mods before settling on a combination that I felt work best for a gradual transition. In case you were interested the mods that I used were the GB Inside Passage Water, it has a similar tone of blue as the mmp water, additionally it has a nice gradual transition before being opaque and the small calm waves are suitable for a marshy waterfront. GreyRockForeshore for the sand, which is not an HD texture but it again it matches really well with the mmp water and the rock mod I use. And lastly the z__CPT_B_OlympicBeach_Optional file from CPT Olympic Terrain mod, the only file from that mod in use. Which by itself already creates a really nice under water texture. This file however overrides the beach texture file so I modified that part of the mod out so that I get to use whatever custom beach I want while keeping the marshy underwater texture part.

@Hellken TY :thumb:

@sunda Obrigado! Até alguns meses atrás, eu não acho que eu poderia fazer essas paisagens, mas vendo o trabalho inspirador de outros feitos realmente me quiser experimentá-lo para mim. Hope that translated correctly.

@kschmidt Thanks, that's pretty neat to hear. Now you know why it's called the Scribosilyn river :P

@tariely I was hoping you'd stop by the master of waterworks herself. I'm really glad to see I have your seal of approval  I've been dying to pull off water scenes ever since I saw the liberal and varied use of water in your journal and a couple others, but probably mostly yours, from last year. But up until recently I didn't have to motivation for it, largely stemming from not knowing how too do it properly, lol. Yeah not too sure what the deal is with that black line at the start of the highway bridge. I've seen that NAM highway bridge do that on occasion before but mostly when the terrain is uneven, but it's completely level here. :???: If I make any more mosics I'll edit it out but I wanted this entry to photoshop free, aside from stitching together the mosaics.

@Takingyouthere Thanks for the info on the combination of mods you used to create that incredible scene . I'm guessing it's image #16 , that's the close up of the transition ? Are you entering the Waterside Challenge ?

I'm not really all that computer literate , so I'm still taking baby steps . I've been playing SC4 for quite a long time on a fairly old PC  (Vista) . It's been rebuilt , but not really upgraded . (so it runs kinda slow) . I'm still learning how to install mods/plugins correctly . I'm a little weary of how much further I can push this old machine . Because I have quite a library of plugins already . But Peg Ponds and Stream Kits don't quite do the trick anymore . Been using the Columbus Terrain Mod and I think one of Peg's Rock Mods . And I'm not really sure how to go about changing them without breaking something .  :???:  Or having to start all over , I've been working on the same region for well over 1 1/2 years and still have empty tiles to work on .

This is absolutely stunning detail!  It almost looks like a painting at some points and then, in others, almost like a photograph with the level of realism.  Truly amazing work and a real inspiration to someone like me who is pretty new at MMPs but very eager to learn more.  I'm very impressed with the land/water/deep water transitions you made.  Flawless!

@raynev1 No problem and yup that's the transition pic. I actually wasn't planning on entering the waterside challenge but I guess I will now :) I see your point about not wanting to overload your machine, the good thing is water and rock mods aren't too large, the file size for the HD ones are about the same as for a large skyscraper. Switching out the rock or water mod you use shouldn't cause any problems. But just in case I recommend that you make a copy of your entire plugins folder and put it in another location on your computer or better yet another hard drive if you have a second one. That way if something goes wrong you can just delete the plugins folder you changed and plop back the old one in it's place and things will work just as before. I've had to do that a few times myself, though only after doing more radical changes. I've actually had two or more rock or water mods in my plugins at a time without any issues, the game just loads the last file that controls that aspect. But still best practice to delete the old ones first. And that's all you have to do. Find the Peg's Rock Mod that you are currently using, delete it and place the new rock mod in it's place. Check out @CorinaMarie's rock shoppe  if you haven't yet already to help you decide which mod to use.

@Schulmanator Thanks man! Love the new avatar btw

@MeMyself&I Awesome to hear that :thumb:
Hopefully my brief explanation in the comment above is somewhat helpful for creating lakefront transition scenes and Scribosilyn has some insightful videos on creating river scenes on his CJ. Oh and don't get discouraged if things don't look as realistic as you'd want them to be at first, just take a look at where I started from afterall.

@Takingyouthere Where did you get the intermodal cars and the locomotive? Also how did you get %99 Intermodal cars?

TYT - It's a project that another forum member is working on but isn't yet ready for a public release, sorry.

This has got to be the best water to land transitions I have ever seen!! Your MMP work is simply fantastic!

I'm also glad to see some of my work in use. Thank you!
