Hello!

So I "accidentaly" saw a YouTube video of someone playing SimCity 4 and I felt a kind of urgency to try the game again, with new tools and mods made by the wonderful community this game has.

I got the game when it came out, I was around 15 at the time, and I still have both boxes with codes and cds inside (SC4 + Rush Hour). I got in talks with EA to ask them to add the game to my digital collection on EA Play, and after showing photos of the cases, disks and codes they promptly did so. Played a lot back then and loved the game. Fast forward to today I'm an architect (working, more specifically, in the architetural visualization field) and so my interest on cities and it's inner workings is quite more solid now which has me curious about how I would approach the game. 

One of the things i'd like to try is understand how to model custom buildings and how to release them to the community. Hopefully it won't take long!

I'd also like to thank everyone who has managed to immortalize this amazing game!

Here is a good tutorial on the introduction to BAT using GMAX.

As an alternative there is BAT4Max which, however, can be used up to the 2017 version of 3DS Max and in experimental stage there is BAT4Blender which works but does not yet support many advanced features and night lights

Hey y'all.

I've been playing SimCity games since the early to mid nineties, but never knew there was such an active community or improvements to the game until recently.  I'm currently playing with no mods, and planning to update the game with some as soon as I replace my computer with something from the current decade 😆.  Just wanted to introduce myself and give a heads up that there may questions forthcoming.  Lots of questions.  Maybe even all the questions.  I always try to search for the answer first, so hopefully I won't ask too many repetitive questions.

Even a prior decade comp can run the game pretty well with mods.

Oh, I know.  Been playing it on this one for years.  The main issue is the operating system is now out of date and no longer able to be updated on this computer.  I have to replace it whether I add mods or not.

hello i am gevi. ive been playing SimCity 4 off and on again since the beginning. ive never been particularly good at it, i usually give up in frustration and several years later ill give it another stab. NAM has been a huge help every time, its always better than the last time i tried it. its been longer this time than at any point in the past. i decided to give it a try and the dll mod development is awesome. looking forward to figuring it all out.

Hello Simtropolis,

I finally garnered to courage to join this community after lurking around as a guest and i will now introduce myself. My name is Brody Jones, I've been a big fan of city building games since my childhood days, though i haven't been fully into it again until i found SimCity 4 through a youtuber i've forgotten the name of since, but no matter, that video gave me the knowledge about this game (which should have been years ago, really). I've found SimCity 4 to be quite enjoyable and incredibly addicting, especially with supplemental mods like NAM and the like, too long to list them here. I've used forums like Simtropolis in the past, but im sure my skills at foruming are quite rusty nowadays. Talking further about mods, I'm very much interested in modding this game by myself, particularly by making my own BATs. I've yet to master gmax, it's quite a handful compared to the programs i regularly use. With that out of the way, I'm hoping i can make a good impression here in the future, and just generally have a good time around these forums.

Appreicate the welcome, mate. I've also been setting up a ludicrously large region for my project, amazing how this game can still handle 24 by 18 large tiles (with the appropriate 4gb patch of course).

Don't forget to install this little mod if you want a perfect screenshot.

As for the scrolling issue, I don't know any mod that solves that.

Will do, I'm the type of person who screenshots constantly, it will be a huge help. As for the scrolling issue, i've heard of it for very large regions, but it seems my region barely teeters at the edge of not being scrollable (at the top left and bottom left), so it should be fine for all purposes.

I'm not a "buddy", but we'll let that slide. This site is mostly for SimCity 4. While we do have an other games section, it's not likely the best place for you.

As long as you are here for legitimate reasons, you are welcome. We do frown on members joining merely to get their foot in the door and then post spam or spam links so don't do that.

Do you install it to the Documents' Plugins folder? Do you have any permission issue with the Plugins folder? Does your user name contains non-Latin character? Those can prohibit NAM from installing. Try again with Latin named user name and install NAM on the Documents' Plugins. If it still doesn't work, well you have to take over your own Documents folder. There are guides on the internet how to do so, tho backup your files on that folder first.
