Hi @Kloudkicker and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

It sure sounds great how you've made a set of custom content that you're pleased with. That part alone is a big challenge, and there's so much choice in what items can be downloaded that it can seem like a never-ending process. You'll find how by having this solid set now, it'll become much more enjoyable too. Then the beauty is that new BATs, lots, and mods can always be added as going along too if desired. This can be done in a test sandbox region without fear of messing up your cities, and also making frequent region backups is always a wise idea too (the entire Regions folder can be copied to someplace safe).

The SC4 community really is fantastic, and we're sure you'll enjoy everything ST and SC4Devotion has to offer.

Hi @ all

I am a "mayor" from Germany and thankful to be here with you because I already have got big help from you. I already played SC2 and love SC4. But because of big problems while playing (gamecrushes) I again and again stopped playing. Now I have reset my computer now and have made a new try with SC4 and found out the trick to run SC4 on one CPU only. Since then I have no crushes anymore *:) I really appreciate the work of the modders that has improved SC4 very much and also appreciate the work that is done here in the forum. It is not common that a game attracts players for such a long time. This is because of you work! *:8) I am running SC4 on Windows at home and on my MacBook while travelling.

I have chosen the screenname "Murcutt" because Glenn Murcutt is an architect that has inspired me very much over the years. I like his attitude of design and embedding his houses into the surrounding nature perfectly very much.

Hi, I'm Zebu

I've loved SimCity 4 and have always wanted to get into it but never knew where to start but I've always loved the look and feel of the game and have been attracted to the many mods that add to that feeling so its cool to finally join a community like this

But one issue I've come across is where to get the game where its without the ea eula stuff and easy to mod without issue or having to have a launcher like steam or origin

Hi again @Murcutt and we're glad to see you're enjoying everything the community has and you've got the game running smoothly now. *:8)

SC4 is indeed a magnificent timeless classic, and not many games approaching 20 years since release would still have an active thriving fanbase. So really it is independent of time, because as a community we keep pushing new boundaries with custom content and innovative discoveries.

Hi @Zebusuu and welcome to Simtropolis also. *:)

For a DRM free version of SC4 Deluxe, one version highly recommended is what GOG sells.

As of posting now, the price is at the regular amount, but often several times per year they run sales on items including SC4. When this happens it can be reduced to 75% off and so would be an even better price. If going down the GOG route, make sure to avoid their Galaxy launcher and download the game standalone. My post here explains about this, and then it can be installed individually like it would with the disc based version (but just with no CD required at all).

If you've any questions about anything SC4 related, feel free to post in new and/or existing topics and we'll be happy to help further.

I highly recommend the GoG download standalone    I use it on a WIN7 laptop and a WIN10 desktop with no problems

welcome  I got my first copy in 2003 but didn't have internet (was living in mountains adjacent to wilderness) until 2009 so played all those years without custom content

and when I discovered all the sites and a wealth of custom content in 2009 the game became immortal (for me) as it continues to grow and evolve with the contributions of so many

talented people   remember to keep your plugins folder well organized

Hiya, @Madman89. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

I, too, played vanilla with no plugins for a long while (a couple of years). Even now my Plugins weigh in at a mere 118 MB (not counting NAM). When (or if) you decide to install custom content, go slow and vet everything by testing in a disposable region.

Hi @Madman89 and welcome to Simtropolis also. *:8)

It is a good way to learn the fundamentals of the simulation by getting used to the vanilla game. For me it's how I only knew SC4 too until discovering ST and the limitless potential for what custom content offers. In time you may wish to install the basic fixes, such as to resolve the high tech jobs bug and build up from there. Until then if choosing to, there's no requirement to install any mods at all. It all depends on what you're comfortable with, and most importantly while the game is still fun in the form you play it.

Hiya, my name is Sammy and I recently got back into SimCity 4 a few days ago.

My first time playing was about 2 years ago for the period of a few months and just stopped playing (other games, school, programming). Looking forward to chatting with others and enjoying the game I used to play daily.

Hi Sammy and welcome to Simtropolis and back to your mayoral duties. *:)

Now you're getting back into city building again, it'll be the start of a new adventure in discovering what this 17 year old game can inspire. Also with the vast selection of custom content which further expands on the imaginative possibilities, helping to reach even taller heights.

Enjoy the site and the forums!

Hiya, @VetinarisClerk. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)  Your Ankh-Morpork city for SC3000 is very detailed. *:thumb:

I notice there are two uploads of it which look the same for the description and file size. The names are slightly different:

As a new member your first post (or upload) needed staff approval so I presume when the first upload didn't show up immediately, you then tried a second time. (And no worries, if so. I understand.) So, I'll go ahead and approve the second one too and then let us know for sure if they are the same. Or maybe the second is a slight fix of the first?

Edit: And now there is a third one. :O

No, I understood that I needed aproval but the first attempt got a timeout error so I tried again. Then when I loged back in, everything I uploaded was gone, not as in "pending approval", just "you have no activity". As a result, I might have spammed you with a bunch of galeries and game files. Sorry. *:(

If you could aprove any game file, I would apreciate it greatly.

As for the city itself, there is a huge demand for a "Vetinari Simulator" on the interwebs, so I thought I'd give it a try. And SC3K had just the right satire/caricature feel for the taks. *:D

Appologies again.

All three are visible now. (The restriction for pending approval no longer applies, so the third one appeared too without any need for staff to intervene.) *;)

Since there are three slightly different names, just let us know which one you prefer to keep and we will whisk the other two away.

I look forward to meeting other Morporkians! *:D

Hi @VetinarisClerk and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

As Cori said, no problem about the duplicate uploads, and it's cool to see you're interested in SC3K as well.

Nice images you posted also there to complement your map, and those could help to inspire people. You may have seen we have a dedicated forum for the game, and of particular interest might be this collection of over 10,000 archived buildings from the old SC3K exchange.
