Planes by Joel - BAT thread and other stuff

Recently I unexpectedly uncovered an old hobby... and have been building away in Gmax to create more planes and other stuff for SC4. I've been enjoying modelling the planes and texturing the different airline liveries (paint schemes) and maybe a few other people might enjoy using what I've made. Today I uploaded a pack of planes I've numbered "1" - implying maybe there will be more?

In this thread I'll just post a few things about it and keep a catalogue of the planes/liveries I've BATted.

Feedback welcome!

New airliners BATted by me - at night

Well, I can certainly say I enjoy what you have created lately. More than that: It has inspired me to improve the area around the airport in my city. The DHL freight centre was a great addition to the airport theme in SC4. I would definitely welcome more creations like that or of any other airport infrastructure. A big thank you for the planes you uploaded yesterday. I personally love the planes with the new LH livery. Oh and Condor as well. I hope you continue your work on planes (I'd have one or two requests like a LH A 380 or a Brussels Airlines A 320).

Anyway, whatever you decide to show here - I am pretty sure I will be excited about it.

Hey Bobelboy - I'm glad you enjoyed them!

Regarding requests - I'm honestly pretty open to them with a couple of disclaimers. I don't plan to do an A380 model because the original ones by Voltaire are still so good, I don't want to double up (I know some of the liveries are now outdated, but there aren't many airlines flying them). But the A320 request I can do at some stage! :)

    General update

I am working on a fix for clash with sidewalk texture mods with lots in Pack 1 - and also to add compatibility with submenus - thanks to @Ulisse Wolf for informing me.

Thank you so much! I'm flying with Brussels Airlines quite often these days, so this is super nice. May I add two more requests? I have dedicated on terminal to the Lufthansa Group. Would it be possible to add one Austrian Airlines and one Eurowings A 320 jet each as well? Then the family would be complete.

Still having fun with creating... potential for 'pack 2' the 737 MAX

Awesome work as always Joel, and welcome back!

Been a fan of your models since SCAG, and words can’t describe my excitement when Pack 1 came out, especially when it includes Singapore’s stunning A350. Modular airports are such a pain to build, but putting in these lifelike models just makes it all worthwhile, even more so if it’s straight out of the current decade.

Have a couple requests of my own, if you are able. Some years since you created the Tiger Airways A320 prop, they got absorbed by Scoot (TR/TGW), so models of their 787 and A320 would be nice. Malaysia Airlines and Air India (especially the new livery) A350s would be an awesome addition to the collection too.

Thank you so much, and once again, really, really great work!

Nice stuff in the works here. And it got me redoing my airport. Up until now I have used both Saarinen terminals made by Jenx. However, the pics in this thread inspired me to work with the concourses. They just look so pretty with these airplanes. But I could not find the plain ramp filler and the one with the big lamppost (the ones that need to be plopped between the building and the planes) - are those in the set with the concourses too?

So with no doubt (at least in my case): Very inspiring. Looking forward to see more creations.

The light poles are some lots I developed for myself, using props from the Lightpole Replacement Mod. But possibly for release if you’d find them useful (I like the look!).

The 1x1 plain ramp filler should be able to be found in your airports menu (if you’ve downloaded the ultimate pack from the LEX) down with some of the other ramp markings and modular taxiways lots. I can take a screenshot later if it helps!

Thank you for the reply. I totally agree that the light poles make this whole scene visually more interesting. So I would say, please release any additions to the set. I'd welcome this a lot.

I think I have figured out my problem: As far as I can see there are three textures: The light one for taxiways, the dark one (which you use for bigger aircrafts) and the ramp texture (which you also use for smaller aircrafts). Somehow the correct ramp texture does not show up when I plop ramp lots; instead I get the taxiway texture. When I plop your planes I can see the ramp texture. So I guess I need to find this texture. If you have any clue, please let me know.

Can you post (or send me via direct message) a screenshot of the lot you are using? Including the menu (showing the icon) or query? Keen to help if I can.

There are lots of ground textures in use which definitely does complicate things but also gives the high level of customisation that is possible (NB I didn’t create the overall systems I just followed the others)

What a great comeback! Keep it up, Joel! I'd request smaller planes since everyone is modeling big planes.

any chance of releasing the stairs as separate props ? I'm building an airport with ground level only gates .. and they would be an excellent addition.

Diagonal planes? Oh man. Gimme. If there's an Air Canada set in there, I'm gonna be happier than a pig in a sty.

    Also: Don't think I didn't notice those fractional-angle Dash 8s. :bunny:

You will certainly find some Air Canada jets in the diagonal set - an Airbus A220, a B777 and a B787. :)

I think you’ve spotted one of the ATR-72s from my other recent upload! I went for the angle because often these kinds of smaller planes park on gates where they have space to turn themselves around under their own power rather than being pushed back on to the taxiway, and the ATR main passenger door is at the rear so I sometimes see them parked perpendicular or angled (relative to the surrounding infrastructure), so that passengers have a shorter walk (I guess?). I haven’t done a new Dash-8 (yet?)

Example pic of angled ATRs at the top of this article: https://avgeekery.com/unique-as-a-flamingo-silver-airways-carves-its-niche/
