Got a quick SC4 question?... Ask here!

  Please Note

This thread is intended for asking questions to receive short and simple solutions. *:read:

It is meant to be a place where it's easy to reply and quick to receive answers, instead of opening a new topic each time. For example, to ask about keyboard shortcuts, how to use a cheat command, or game versions like between a patched and unpatched game. Maybe even a post someone made for a gameplay tip.

That said, we very much encourage members to open a new topic for asking anything which might lead to a discussion, or a sequence of replies on the same subject. That way it allows people to find topics when searching for particular questions.

So if you're here and that applies, please consider opening a new:

Thanks for you Reply Jack, but that´s not, what i asking for. I know those Steps that you are listet.

What i need is: Is it possible, to set the Date to Zero after ...500, or 1000 Years at the Start Time.

Hi @City_Slider

If you mean you want to reset the date to 1/1/00, check the first two posts here (Link). I remember playing around with. It does work. However, if you keep reading the topic, the possibility that it could affect date-related game characteristics was raised. I seem to remember it coming up elsewhere, but I currently can't find it. You may want to keep that in mind.

Hi there.
I seem to have the landmark buildings propping as commercial and/or residential buildings.
I've recently installed the extra cheats plug-in, and the Colossus plug-in as well.
Is this related to any of those plug-ins?

Thanks :)

The simple answer is almost certainly No! - neither of these mods would cause what you are observing.

Realize that any model can be used to create a building exemplar for anything. I highly suspect that you have some custom content in your Plugins folder where the content creator used the models for these two buildings to create building exemplars that represent commercial / residential building. The model of just about any object can be used to create just about anything. Palm tree as a mayor's house? Statue of Liberty as a police station? Dumpster as a school? Just about anything is possible!

    Hi there,

i do have a Problem with a Maxis Building... How can it be?

@City_Slider, I'm assuming you are talking about the apparent lack of lot textures and/or any props.

If this was truly a Maxis lot, this would not happen. Out of curiosity, how were you able to determine that this is Maxis content?

It does not appear that this is a Maxis building or model. I looked through every Commercial Service and Industrial building in the basic game (using PIM-X), and this building does not appear among them. It would then follow that this is custom content, and you are missing dependencies. I also could not find any downloads with the word "Gusseisen" (using Google Search) on either the ST or SC4D websites. When searching on the word "foundry", I got very few hits, none of which were this building.

I suggest running a file search on your Plugins folder for either "Gusseisen" or Giesserie to see what download this belongs to.

I think I dl'ed that from one of the Asian sites, and it might have been re-lotted by someone in Germany(which would explain no search results). Very few of the Asian links work, so it should be easy to find the original. If all else fails, add new bases in LotEditor.

Is there anyway to make the icons and text in game a bit bigger? I'm having trouble seeing them clearly. Maybe a mod for visually impaired?

I believe at most SC4 can use 2 GB of RAM. There is the 4 GB Patch for 64 bit Windoze to shuffle things around such that its own functions are allocated to actually make 2 GB available to the game. (Note: That might not be exactly how it works, but it's prolly close.)

A key aspect for total computer RAM is that there is enough that the OS has enough for everything else you have running such that it doesn't reclaim any the game wants to use.

    Wait what?

I think you meant 8 gigs which fortunately (or unfortunately?) never exceeded. If I'm not mistaken, @Haljackey had lots of plugins and the limit is around 4 gigs, as @CorinaMarie.

Ah! I see you interpreted the question as the size of the Plugins Folder which I overlooked.

    Here's a topic about that:

Oh sorry, I meant 8 gigs of RAM, not plugin size. Plugin size is somewhat arbitrary except for Aspyr edition.

No worries. I'm uncertain what the actual question we are trying to answer is and I assumed you'd made a better guess than I did.

I believe once your reach your RAMs limit, virtual RAM could be used to finish the job, if that option is available and turned on.

Not sure if this helps but yes SC4 can run more than 2GB of RAM / VRAM if you have the 4GB patch and a very demanding simulation- usually with very high populations and lots of custom content.

    Example here:

Hi Jackey, and with 16 GB Ram? Is there a advantage between 4, 8 and 16 GB?

*Edit* Why i´m asking. Desk PC´s are really cheap right now and i´m going to bay a new one (number 4 ;-) )

There isn't much difference between 8 & 16 if all you are doing is SC4. If you can squeeze 32Gb into the system you could comfortably create a RAM-drive of 16Gb and have the game 'load' from that after its copied over. For a big speed boost try an SSD instead.
