Oh wow, that side wall is quite the trainwreck indeed! * I hope you'll get it fixed, but looking at the rest of the modeling job, I suppose you'll manage just fine.

I actually think you have stepped up a level, the modeling looks great! Textures are also really nice, especially the roof. The windows are not final, I suppose?

That metal chimney running through the narrow recess and the staircase/elevator tower are really interesting touches, too - however bland the building may look at a first glance, details like these give it a character of its own and make a closer second (third, fourth...) glance all the more interesting.

Oh, wait a second - I just noticed on the close-up shot of the problematic wall that there is some light coming through one of the windows - the right one in the fourth row as counted from the bottom. Maybe that is related to the problems that become visible on other zoom levels.

Oh man. A Glenni Bat thread. In 2018! Feels good. :]

Yeah, there are a few glitches on that wall. Not even sure why it shows a bit of light, except from the Bat4max Skylight, I don't actually have a single lighting source in the model just yet.

Yeah... I agree with you there, it's slower, clunkier, a little blurrier, and has none of the fancy doodads 3dsmax has, but at least it works, and largely renders BATs painlessly.

Neat! I must confess that I almost liked the old roof texture even better than the new one. By the way, is the building scaled to 133% along the Z axis? Just wondering because the windows appear to be taller than wide in the up-front shot, but apparently it's the other way around in the SC4 perspective shot.

While it's probably not 133% exactly, it is modelled like i used to model buildings, the floor is 5 meters, the ground floor is slightly taller, at 8m. My theory is that the windows appear taller because of the angle, as these windows are inset from the concrete bands, and on top of that directly under another ledge it gives the impression that the windows are shorter than they actually are once SC4's angle is applied. As for the roof texture, it's the same one, but the lighting rig was a little wrong for the older renders, meaning it gave the wrong level of lighting, so I had to redo basically all of the textures, I agree, the roof texture is a little too dark for my taste.  That being said, here's a night render for now.

New project! An update of sorts to the antiquated Norwegian house packs i made in the past, This time I plan to make a few of the typical premade houses from Norway built from the 2000s, to today. Like before there will be colour variations such as red, yellow, blue, green, grey, white, brown, black, etc.  Same story with the roof colours, ranging from grey, black, red, orange, green, etc.

So far I only have the base shape of the house done, I still need to add gutters, little vents, inverters, a chimney, stove vents, etc.

    GCX1puO.jpg

    AJNNYvN.jpg

It will take a while to make all these, but these are essentially the designs I'm basing these on.

First I'm making houses based on these, more or less:

Välkommen tillbaka får man väl lov att säga först och främst.

I like the houses and I know you're gonna nail the design. The only thing I would ask for is custom foundations so they can be slope friendly in order for them to work in their proper Norwegian context with sprawling mountainside suburbs. There are probably tutorials for that out there.

Wow, what you have modeled so far looks absolutely stunning! I also like many of the other designs, although some of them look a tad like Norwegian candidates for mcmansionhell.com. *:P

@metasmurf took the words from my mouth - the very same thing was one of the first thoughts that occurred to me after looking at those pictures. *:)

If you want to try custom building foundations, which I recommend for these, I wrote a tutorial on this.

There's a small isle near Bergen called Sotra ... a memory like a leave in autumn. No traces left in the present.

if I could choose, I would live there, in this house. Maybe except of winter time, when sunlight's missing great part of the day..

If you release this beautifull house, I don't know .. why should my sims always get things - so much more beautiful than what I've got in RL?

Maybe I'll make a majors house from it. So at least my alter ego can live there.

Heh, yeah, that's what I named it after. I'm naming my houses from now on, so it will be easier to pick them apart. this for example will be "Norwegian Houses - Sotra"

Hm, there is one problem with your tutorial, the images are showing photobucket hosting limits, is it possible you could update it by using an Imgur album or similar?

Ah yes, Photobucket crap, haha. I recently updated all images only to find later (in another thread) that Photobucket changed their policy and that the pictures are not showing anymore (they did upon uploading though). Will update it now :-)

Yeah, it's a common problem with Photobucket unfortunately, unless you pay for their subscription, which I honestly wouldn't as there are better image sites, free, or paid.  As for the foundation though. Do the LODs for the prop methos foundation have to be skin tight, or will they still blend with the terrain if you give them a general shape?

Yea I wouldnt either, it's just too much they are asking for... 100$ when there are plenty of free services out there. I'm now going with postimage.org, so far so good.

No, not at all. They can be just any shape I believe, I used boxes as you can see in the tutorial (images now updated).

So far this is what I got. The house model, the deck, which will be seperate, and a foundation for the house/deck that will show up on uneven ground.

The only thing that's remaining is to make some stairs for the foundation:

I was also thinking of doing a few variants for the foundation prop base by family props. So that it would appear randomly, concrete, more stone variants like this one, brick, plaster, etc. :D
