Colossus Addon Mod installer not opening DatPacker?

I was trying to install cam 2.1.X today and it gave me instructions to click on the simcity_1 folder and click start in the data packer window. But there was one problem...

THERE WAS NO DATA PACKER WINDOW

Does anyone have an answer or a fix to my problem? I tried installing LEX Datapacker and it gave me an error and I have no clue what to do.

@rsc204 is one of our experts for this and will likely be along with some advice.

Was the error when installing or after installing and trying to run it?
Did you get the .dll files it requires?

(And no, you do not have to pay for those even tho some sites make it look like you do. You just have to find the download linky hidden among all kinds of other promotional linkys.)

That looks like it ought to be enough for the experts to give some advice when they get here.

You might also want to mention what operating system you are using. (When I installed and used Dat Packer I did it on Win XP. It's prolly more at home in that environment so I didn't get any errors.)

For reference, here's where I got the 3 required .dll files:

    http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/M/msvcp71.dll/7.10.3077.08/download.html
Click the: Download the dll file msvcp71.dll linky

Just drop them in the same folder as the Dat Packer program.

But CAM installer still won't open it! I tried unpacking the Sim_City1 Folder manually and then closing and the installation still would not continue!

Now we're back into the expert's territory. (I've never installed CAM myself.) Rest assured we have lots of gurus here who will be willing to help out. It just might take some time before they log in. *;)

    1. Do you have SC4Fix.dll installed?
    2. Do you have your CPU affinity set to 1? (Depending on which version of SC4 you have will determine how you set that. Like, Gog's or Steam's or Other.)

Another solution, if you have Java, use JDatPacker. It's more efficient (no other DLLs are needed).

    Thanks.

I think it's CPUCount, not affinity, that must be set to 1. Affinity (if even recognized) would tell the OS which core to use, not how many. SC4's problem is with how many.

SC4 doesn't really care which core is used (the affinity) just that it is only one of the cores. *;)

You are correct that the parameter to pass is -CPUCount:1.

I was able to solve this problem in Win 7 SP1 by installing SC4DatPacker first which installed/registered whatever is missing from the CAM installer. Win 10 users may also need .NET 3.5, which is not installed by default.

Also note CAM 2.1.0 has an error in the demand exemplar which causes problems starting at 615,000 population due to all of the population numbers above 6,000,000 missing a zero. You can fix this by editing \Plugins\a__CAM\a__Core\CAM_2.1.0_Main_Controller.dat with Ilives Reader. The exemplar is about the 2nd one from the end of the list, instance 41af3ce6, you want to edit Demand: Neutral Tax Rate vs. Population and insert the missing zeros.

I wonder if @InvisiChem is aware of this. I believe the development thread is over on Devotion.

@InvisiChem's CAM 2.1.0 thread at SC4D is at  https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=17318.0.  Unfortunately he hasn't been active since Feb 2017.  This particular issue has been mentioned at least twice on that thread since he stopped being active.  Don't know if it was ever brought up before that point, but the fact that the problem still exists in the available download suggests it wasn't.  I suppose it is possible that an updated .dat file was released as an attachment to a post, but I haven't found it.  I've spent much more time trying to find other mentions of the problem than it took to just fix the problem using iReader.

How about attaching a replacement for the STEX? I'll add it as an update so no one else has to run into this problem.

Sounds good. It could be uploaded as a new version to the file entry for the CAM, and then everyone can download the fixed version. Maybe it's worth adding an increment to the version (e.g. 2.1.0a) to distinguish it. Then the old release can still be kept available under the changelog list shown below the file's description. A brief note could be added in there to describe that this is the fixed version based on v2.1.0, with no other changes.

OK, here it is.  This changes one property (Demand: Neutral Tax Rate vs. Population), in one exemplar (Demand Simulator, IID 0x4A1F3CE6) in the file CAM_2.1.0_Main_Controller.dat.  Obviously, all due deference to @InvisiChem, as the original creator of CAM 2.1.0

    CAM_2.1.0_Main_Controller.dat

Question: Do you always get the same Main_controller.dat no matter which install option you choose (IR only, standard, Invisichem)? I'm not an expert but it doesn't seem likely.

The file CAM_2.1.0_Main_Controller.dat  contains all the exemplars that do not change based on install option.  There is another file called CAM_2.1.0_PlayStyle_XX.dat (where the XX is replaced by the name of the install option chosen).  This contains the exemplars that do change based on the install option.  Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to have 2 separate DAT files.  Not sure why that wouldn't seem likely.

No, the broken exemplar exists only in CAM_2.1.0_Main_Controller.dat , which is the same regardless of which install option you choose

Build a quick test city with good education and use the Route Query tool to see if any High Wealth Residents work at a High Tech Factory. If they do, then you are good to go and no need to re-merge that.
