  1. Question: Do you always get the same Main_controller.dat no matter which install option you choose (IR only, standard, Invisichem)? I'm not an expert but it doesn't seem likely.
  2. SimCity 4 on Steam

Awesome! Just upgraded my CD version that won't run in Win 7 without major hacking, to the Steam version which is already patched, no CD protection and runs the first time. You'll want to go into Steam Library, right-click SimCity 4 Deluxe, Properties, Set Launch Options, and insert something like: -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:directx -f -CPUcount:1
  3. I was able to solve this problem in Win 7 SP1 by installing SC4DatPacker first which installed/registered whatever is missing from the CAM installer. Win 10 users may also need .NET 3.5, which is not installed by default. Also note CAM 2.1.0 has an error in the demand exemplar which causes problems starting at 615,000 population due to all of the population numbers above 6,000,000 missing a zero. You can fix this by editing \Plugins\a__CAM\a__Core\CAM_2.1.0_Main_Controller.dat with Ilives Reader. The exemplar is about the 2nd one from the end of the list, instance 41af3ce6, you want to edit Demand: Neutral Tax Rate vs. Population and insert the missing zeros.
  4. Ha, I had a flash of inspiration and got this to work under XP. Follow the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310147 to point the My Documents of one machine to the My Documents folder on the other. Be sure you click NO when it asks if you want to move your documents! Side effect: It also uses the remote Plugins folder (maybe desirable) but this causes things (esp. rendering) to be sluggish even over a 100 mb network. Maybe gigabit would work better ...
  5. No, it's not possible in XP without modifying the operating system. "Junctions" only work on local drives. Let us know if you run across a utility that does it, I don't think one exists.
  6. Sim City 4 Deluxe problems with VISTA

I was having the same problem of sluggish scrolling on my quad core XP machine, my older P4 XP was much faster, so it's not Vista. Setting the processor affinity to one core (yes you can do it in XP) cured the problem, it's smoking fast now. Thanks to the folks who mentioned it.
