It would be great if you do the nightlighting DarkNite compilant, it would make your already great models much more realistic

If you do that, you need to make a Maxis Night version and a Dark Night version, since not everyone uses dark night mods.

    Hi Everybody, is technical Question, Does anybody knows why after making a preview of my model I can't use 3d max anymore? I have to restart the program  -.-

    Just Crash ! I have to stop the program and close it ! I was rendering and all my computer crashed, just got freezed, I have to restart it, Well my machine is very old: 

    8 GB RAM

    2GB Nvidia Video Card

    Intel Core i7 1st Generation

    Windows 7 

    3dmax 2014 using BAT4Max 2014 

    I don't know what is going on ! I'm worried about it  :(

    By the Way, something happend to Jason's tutorials , JPG Images are collapsed.

    The program just freezes me when I am doing a preview and close the preview window before it finishes. To fix this press Esc is enough, but looks like this isn't the type of freezing that is happening to you.

    A basic tutorial to start to export 3dmax to Sim City 4 , liked the LOD's, lights, create glasses, etc. ?

    Hey, Library Tower from Chicago (or whatever its name has been changed to these days)! :golly:

    Looks like the render is pretty messed up, however - I hope another 3dsmax user will be able to help you. To answer at least one of your question, the LODs are the invisible boxes around your building that SimCity will use as the actual model. You can imagine a rendered model as a cube outline made of wires, and the sides of the cube are pictures of your rendered model. If you have iLive's Reader, you can open an .sc4model file, select one of the S3D files inside, and use the "rotate" button to rotate the model you see - you will see that it's just a box with the image of a rendered building on its sides to create the illusion of 3D.

    1.- How can I get better Quality previews in Bat for Max? 

    2.- How Can I export to simcity 4 ? , It push export and nothing happends.

    3.- Simtropolis is an Impractical forum to find information, Does somebody know where could find a begginer tutorial for bat 4 max? 

    4.- What Happend to the images in Jason's Tutorials ?  I can't see them anymore

    1. At first sight, this rather looks like you were being too impatient and took a screenshot while your engine was rendering. In this case, don't worry, whenever you hit render (especially with big buildings with many polys (hit 7 to check your poly and vertex count)) it's normal business for your PC to provokingly keep you from doing anything with you computer as he wants some rest to do that render properly. Just leave your computer alone and look for something else you cant devote yourself to.

    2. Exporting is done in gmax, hitting export will simply bring your LODs from 3ds over to gmax.

    3. I'm not sure what exactly u try to get help with but SimFox set up a basic instruction post for his programme in which he describes every button that comes with Bat4Max. You can find it here

    4. It seems like them have been lost within the last year. I can't see them either. Either, Jason's pics really didn't like Simtrops recent update (though I didn't check them before), or the site Jason used to upload his pics let him down. Either way, they don't seem accesable anymore. Gotta see if I find them on my harddrive, if not, either call Jason and hope for him to still have them or they're lost forever ... what a shame ...

    I know ImageShack recently purged users images if they decided not opt into the paid service.  They probably aren't the only image hosting site to take that road... I guess you get what you pay for :(
    (which reminds me... I need to transfer all my images over too)

    Looking at the full size of the the image you posted, I think you should check to see what the size of your model is. The size of the building in the preview render, when zoomed in to 1:1 (the title bar of the window should say whether you're zoomed in or out or not. You can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel) should be the same as it is in the game. 

    Another way to check is to look in the lower right hand corner of the screen in max. It should say "Grid = X m" or something like that. What that means is that the grid boxes in the active (selected) viewport are that size. Your scene could be looking perfectly normal until you realize that your building is a kilometer tall. :P

    And then a final way to check that you're modeling at the right scale is to make a box and type in its dimensions so that you can compare it with what your building is supposed to be. So if the building is supposed to be 220 meters tall (or whatever) you can make a box that tall to see if you're modeling in the right scale. 

    Anyway the reason I think this might be your problem is because the preview image you posted is huge, and because you thought that was the final image (it is actually still rendering but is taking forever because it's gigantic) and crashing problems (it's so big its crashing max), and it's a common mistake that people make.

    Very good model! I've to say you improved a lot! :)

    I just would like to see the pictures with a better quality, this one is very low =/. Try to save your pics in .png and upload them in an image host which won't change the image quality :)

    This is the Test of Today, I'm Excited, I have a lot of work in  the Office, I'd like to have more time for this :( , Maybe I'll broke with my Gril ! :thumb: , well, ok not.

    The time of rendering will mostly depend of your computer, but I think 1,5 hours is really too much for this model. Are you using which Sampling Mode? Unified or Classic? I used to do it with Unified and jason told me to do with the Classic mode, it's faster and the quality is better. Check yours, it can help :)

    I am on cellphone right now and I can not check, but one of those jar icons in the right side is to configure the render, there you can find it. I never used F10 as hot key as well. Anyway, if you did not figure it out, when I enter on PC I explain it better.

    Ok, First of all Thank you for your Help, I got new obstacles.

     

    1.- When I try to Export in (1) SELECT TARGET MODEL says:

    "X.SC4Model" cannot be found in the plugin directory C:\\.

    Please check the path SC4PluginPath = in the BATFORMAX.INI and the file name is correct.

     

     

    2.- If somebdy could share some screenshots from what is talking Jasoncw in his tutorials " GARDENER CENTER GLASS " and " NIGHT WINDOWS WITH SELF ILLUMINATION"

    I'll be glad, I tried to read that many times but really I don't know what is talking about!

    As far as I know the name of the .sc4model file can't have space character, maybe it has more requirements I don't know. I name my files only a-z and numbers.

    Did you check your Sampling mode BTW?

    JP Schriefer: It was a problem when I installed the BAT4MAX I did not select de right Folder of Plugins, Just Have to reisntall the BAT4MAX and Select the right folder, Now Is working! thankyou!
