This is Wean Hall on Carnegie Mellon's campus in Pittsburgh, PA:

http://lh4.ggpht.com/__hZBoYgotKk/SgZi-xomGcI/AAAAAAAAAIA/jjge7nG8EWc/IMG_1976.JPG

Ok, maybe not single-handedly the worst, but the 60's-70's era of these monstrous, brutal concrete buildings is a style I'm hoping is long forgotten, and soon.

What's particularly sad is that the building looks as bad, if not worse on the inside.  Just way too much concrete on the inside and out.

Edit:  Sorry, couldn't get the image to appear in the post directly.  Any clues as to why this is failing?

Cleveland's ugliest building... is actually historic because it's Marcel Breuer's only skyscraper.

:/

It's also the symbol of Cleveland's corrupt politics, as it was purchased for millions as new county offices, and then never used and left half-renovated and empty. (Actually, it's been empty 20 years and half-renovated only recently, then abandoned again....)

Oh, I don't much like the BP Tower also:

It's good, just out of place compared to:

This one just takes the cake. It's supposed to be a courthouse. That's right, it's a government building. Completed 2007.

dutacourtcomplex.jpg

They seriously overdone it with the colonnades.

And the domes. Could you count the number of domes on this monstrosity?

i agree that a lot of these buildings are in bad taste or out of place, but that doesn't make them ugly in their own right.

one building i hate here is "The Paccar Building", here where i live in Bellevue, Washington state USA. in our skyline it is a sore thumb because it is so old, and a lot of the buildings here are new and have glass exteriors. this one is all concrete, and it is just boring looking.

there's also another building of this nature in downtown Seattle, but since I can't find it here's the equally ugly (and bizarre) Rainier Tower, that always looks like it's about to fall over because of its tapered concrete base.

In my hometown, Quebec, there is a building beside the "Plaines d'Abraham" who is called "The Complexe H". Before, it was hidden by the Mlilitary Manege (great building....we, people of Quebec, really hope it will be rebuild in the same way it was), but it burned  down two years ago!!!

HeZe, where and what building is that? It looks like a sea cucumber / slug / amoeba. How this escaped someone's wild imagination is beyond me.

I'd like to know that too. I found that picture from just random surfing in kuvaton.com. It's still worth posting 9.gif

Btw the designer of the Torre Agbar was French Architect Jean Nouvel in association with the Spanish firm b720 Arquitectos and built by Dragados.

An article in AOL Real Estate, realestate.aol.com/real-estate-information/worlds-ugliest-buildings, gives one writer's opinion on what he considers the world's ten ugliest buildings.  Of the buildings pictured, I pick the Experience Music Project in Seattle the ugliest of them all.  I do not agree with everything on the list, and think of other buildings that should be on it such as the Los Angeles Cathedral.

Another vote for the Ryugyong Hotel.

While many of the building posted here were selected for their aesthetics (or lack thereof), the Ryugyong Hotel is a disaster on all fronts. It's ugly, poorly constructed, cost way too much and didn't fill any need in the first place.

Jealous with South Korea being chosen to host the '88 Olympics, North Korea began construction on the hotel in '87 to prove that they could compete on a global scale. KP then dumped 2% of their GDP on this monstrousity before they abondaned it in '92. Their government regularly airbrushes all official photos of the city to make the building less of an eyesore. Many specialists say that the materials and workmanship were so poor, that building cannot be safely occupied even if it is ever completed. Then there's the question of why you would even need a 3000 room hotel in North Korea.

This has been mentioned many times, but...

yongyang-feb-2009-crop-Ryugyong Hotel.jpg" width="297" height="478" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7c/Pyongyang-feb-2009-crop-Ryugyong_Hotel.jpg" />

That blasted Hotel in N. Korea has been topped out since '95, and it's not open yet.

This'll scare some people. I don't like the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. It is deconstructivist to an extreme. It looks like a pile of scrap metal. I don't care for Gehry's work much at all.

Are you kidding me?! That building looks awesome! Thank you, video games!

Although that white concrete building at the background feels like it belongs to a low-income suburb. Last time I checked, outer space was a way cooler place than those kinds of suburbs.

That one is in my hometown. What's more, it's a... theatre. Bunker outside, culture inside. And they built it just 3 years ago.

Lisbon (Portugal) proudly boasts some of the ugliest architecture works of all time, by the infamous, sex-maniac architect Tomás Taveira:

However, I believe no building on the world will be able to outdo this one in ugliness. I present you the church of St. Francis Xavier, by architect Troufa Real. Currently under construction, it will be half carrack, half 16th century fort, painted in lively red orange and golden colors, and it will have a 100 metre minaret, with a glass sphere in the middle, with a panoramic view.

Le Corbusier style. People usually don't like it, but architecture students are almost forced to. At least in Europe.
